  • Dude have you never listened to Deliverance by Opeth? That outro is the greatest breakdown ever.

  • TOOL! OPETH!

  • No offense but IMO most of these bands have better breakdowns =p

  • what about Domination, I'll Cast a Shadow, Strength Beyond Strength, 5 Minutes Alone, I'm Broken, The Art of Shredding, Suicide Note, Pt 2, Primal Concrete Sledge, or Throes of Rejection? Pantera were and still are the kings of insane, testicle-shriveling breakdowns

  • boneyards by pwd has a sick breakdown. but i respect this list great to see btbam pth and opeth on the list those are like the best bands ever :DD

  • Every breakdown off None So Vile is the best breakdown ever.

  • Opeth have like 5 better ones. Although that is a great song.

  • Check out my top 10 breakdowns, some of you guys are gunna love it!

  • I'm glad someone actually put Sadistic Motives in one of these videos. I've always thought that it was a sick breakdown. Well done vid.

  • My all time favorite Breakdown is the one in Foam Born. The one that has the octavey sound. Also superb list here. Sick of Deathcore and it's suckage.

  • Fantastic list, you put a couple of my favourite breakdowns in there! :D Notably Arsis, Cryptopsy and Opeth!

  • only good artists in this video are tool and opeth

  • fuck yeah for arsis finally. just badass.

  • should've done bone marrow by protest the hero pretty sick breakdown in that one

  • I never noticed the breakdown in Jambi ever haha

  • HELL YEAH! CRYPTOPSY! \m/!!!

  • Unearth-This Lying World, that was the best when it came out!

  • Awesome, but since you had a song from Ghost Reveries, I'd have chosen that insanely awesome KEEEPER OF HOLY WHOOOOORES part from Ghost of Perdition!

  • Opeth.

  • #1 yes, YES!!!

  • Best breakdown video I've seen BY FAR!

Nothing in here is scene related. Tired of hearing the same shitty breakdowns from Suicide Silence, The Devil Wears Prada, Job for a Cowboy, etc.

1up with including unrecognized talent like Tool.

2up for recognizing Between the Buried and Me's ridiculous talent,.

1BILLIONup for putting Opeth and Unearth in there. More unrecognized talent right there.

And I'll give some of that well-deserved credit for showing us some other interesting bands. Awesome man.

  • this is a fucking great range of bands. well done

  • your fleash means more than you. protest is fucking amazing.

  • Where the fuck is Legion by 1349?? That has a fucking amazing breakdown in the middle of it.

  • Finally, a breakdown list that includes Arsis. Dust And Guilt has a fantastic breakdown as well.

  • check out my breakdown/technobreakdown video por favor

  • Red Wedding fucking owns

  • I'm always confused when I don't see Turn Soonest to the Sea on these lists. gj

  • awesome!

  • For all of you that dont know,,lots of Metal bands have breakdowns,,if anything they were the ones that started it,,Opeth does have break downs,,Deliverance??? harlequin forest?? all those songs have a breakdown,,today breakdowns are just associated with all the Core music out there hardcore,metalcore,etc..but Metal has tons of them as well,,fuck even Dream theater has breakdowns,,listen to The Glass Prison,,tell me there isn't a break down on that...

  • @itsvoogle yeah man opeth use breakdowns all the time

by the pain i see in others is awesome!

  • good breakdowns

  • tool and opeth

  • @TAY28H666

    thats where its at!

  • opeth

  • The breakdown in Grand Conjuration is way cooler

  • Big Opeth fan here, but I am surprised to find them on this list (I was lead here because I'm also a big BtBaM fan).

One of these bands has breakdowns. The other one doesn't. Opeth isn't anythingcore and shouldn't be on this list. They don't do breakdowns.

  • they do do breakdowns in some songs, cuz a breakdown can simply be a slow part in a song. doesnt mean it has any core assosation watsoever.

  • Pretty solid (y) love how Tool,Arsis, Opeth, BTBAM, Unearth and Protest was on here, i could never chose just ten breakdowns, and plus some of the best havent even been written yet!

  • One of the most classic breakdowns of all time is the one in "Nerdy" by Poison The Well. That shit is from back in the day and it still makes me want to mosh.

  • Didnt expect ARsis here..anyway, ARSIS!!!! Great list btw, Opeth, Cryptopsy, BTBAM!

  • Alaska should be number 1 !

  • CRYPTOPSY RAPES ALL.

    except suffocation

  • I must protest on the BTBAM- Alaska breakdown... "Antsof the Sky" at 3:10.

  • The Faceless - "Alkedama" and "Leica" both have AMAZING breakdowns.

  • What exactly is a breakdown? I have heard many definitions and people's heresay, but would like to know what actually constitutes as a breakdown.

  • Well, anyone who hears a low BPM beat with (usually) a progressive aspect touch to it, they classify it as a "breakdown."

  • As opposed to a bluegrass breakdown...?

  • Is the BTBAM part LIVE?

If it is, HOLY SHIT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SONG EXACTLY!

  • *Facepalm*

  • Between the Buried and me at #5? thats an unsult its way better then all of these, shoulda included whitechapel in there somewhere they got some pretty brutal breakdowns

  • I LOVE YOU.

Between the Buried and Me + Whitechapel = ORGASM TO MAH EARSES!

  • hell yeah, this is the one of the best breakdown videos I've seen on youtube

  • +1 for PTH, BTBAM, Tool and THA :D

  • Oh man, I saw Unearth live and when that breakdown came in... just insane.

    Good list.

  • I love this list, I'm glad you put some melodic breakdowns in here, as opposed to other people who just put heavy-ass deathcore breakdowns with only open power chords in varius rhythms

  • TURN SOONEST TO THE SEA!!! YESSSS!

  • the part right before that part in the baying of the hounds is more brutal in my opinion

  • im very glad u put alaska up there. that breakdown basically bitched slapped me when i heard it. it's brutal as fuck.

  • Vela, Together we await the storm is one of the best songs ever written

  • you're missing the Number 12 looks like you badly

  • That part in The Baying of the hounds is not a breakdown, sorry.

  • i agree. can't go wrong with opeth though

  • youre right but its still awesome :D

  • Cryptopsy breakdown was good. Pity they've turned to shit now.

  • OPETH ARE GODS

  • okay man i respect that is your opinion but for me these breakdowns aren't that good because some of these aren't even breakdowns.

  • Where is Leica by the Faceless? An unforgettable breakdown.

  • Haha fuck yes dude.

When I first heard that song, the breakdown scared the shit outta me.

  • I absolutely love protest the hero's turn soonest to the sea

  • YES!

  • blaaahhh most of these are lame

  • I watched this video because I'm trying to investigate "The Anatomy Of" a breakdown. It's something I'm trying to incorporate into my own music and I want to do it right. This video is a great resource, thanks.

  • The correct answer.

    Pussyfoot - SikTh

  • Sikth is the shit. Too bad they don't exist anymore :(

  • Sweet Jesus! Alaska is heavy.

  • heh i agree with you that this lying world should be on 1 ^^

  • there are only a couple bands here that could even be considered good breakdown material....really

  • pass the flask is a fantastic album

  • I think the breakdown in "Bury The Hatchet" is the best PTH breakdown.

  • opeth, my arms your hearse, april ethereal. theres 2 good ones in there

  • im lovin the wider range of genre

    and LOVING that unearth breakdown

    the singer even says "Breakdown!"

    good stuff :D

  • chelsea smile?

  • chelsea smile is gay

    their new album is gay

their is no good breakdowns on that entire cd

so their for their pretty gay now :]

  • This is a really fuckin good list of breakdowns.

BTBAM, Protest the Hero, and the Bled would be in the top five for me though.

  • for BTBAM, i think the breakdown from Autodidact is a better example

  • im pretty sure you covered every single

    style of rock here.

  • good video! everything in there from prog rock over post-hardcore to tech death

  • thank you! i'm so sick of those breakdown videos that only use deathcore. they all sound the same!

  • BTBAM is the shit.

  • no stick to your guns?parkway drive?emily rose? symphony in peril! emmure! lol :P

  • No, I don't listen to trite, stale deathcore. Sorry.

  • Number 1:

    Botch-Transitions from persona to object

    after he says "say yes"

  • because theyr all scene shit!

  • tool isnt scene... but i have to agree this video is shit

  • nooo ya muppet lol that comment was a reply to ridemacneilBMX

  • @ridemacneilBMX Progressive Death Metal >>>>>>>>>>>>> Deathcore.

  • cryptopsy was better than most the others...

  • No August Burns Red? The end of Composure is better than all of these I reckon...

  • I used to have Pass the Flask and then I lost the fucking thing damn it

  • OMFG!!!!!!!

i was looking for that first song like 2 months agoand couldnt find it, YES!!!!

  • That wasnt even a breakdown in vela, it was just the verse

  • vela is practically a breakdown, lol.

  • There's a bit in the middle of the section I included that isn't a breakdown. The start and finish of that section sure is though, even if there's guitar leads on top of some of it.

  • protest the hero own.

    thats a fucking sweet breakdown

  • yea man, pth was the best on here

  • born of osiris is pretty chill, idk wtf your talking about. anyway. fuckin annotations of an autopsy dude. gore gore gadget and sludge city(welcome to). are the best

  • dude...if you want breakdowns listen to born of osiris. But the breakdown in the ancient covenant by the faceless is number ever

  • No way man Born of Osiris is fucking lame recycled deathcore bullshit. No originality whatsoever.

  • don't get me wrong man...a lot of these are sweet but some aren't even breakdowns. What about Veil of Maya? And Faceless still reigns supreme

  • I was thinking about doing a new list soon enough. And Veil of Maya might be on there.

  • wooooord!

  • Your missing the gods of the Epic Breakdown, Pantera

  • this is a decent list, but if you consider this a top 10 you really need to go back about 15-20 years and delve in just exactly where breakdowns originated from. Hardcore and is slow branching out is loaded some phenominal breakdowns. Good list of more "up to date" songs though. I agree w/the Bleeding Through suggestion as well, they have some amazing ones. The new album is loaded with them.

  • Is it just me or, since all this -core shite started, the meaning of breakdown has been lost? It doesn't mean a half time, low, heavy, syncopated section. It's literally a breakdown of the instruments. Some of the ones here are breakdowns, but similarly some aren't. Especially Opeth, The end of Deliverance would have suited this much better.

Still, am I the only one who thinks that aout breakdowns?

  • If you like breakdowns listen to the album "Declaration" by Bleeding Through. It's like 20 minutes of riffage and melodies...and 25 minutes of breakdowns.

  • lol most of these breakdown's suck :]

  • alaskas breakdown is the fucking shit

  • I don't really know what to say, since it seems all the opinions that came to mind, and then some, have already been voiced..

    Thus making this comment pointless.

    ..aw

  • 'A Fair Judgement' by Opeth has a doom outro that would've been better for this list than 'The Baying of the Hounds'. it's not your typical breakdown but nonetheless effective.

  • FUCKING SMITH BEATS

  • I could've thought of a better breakdown for Opeth, but decent list. BTBAM + Opeth make it worth it's weight in gold

  • exactly what i say.

and i don't know why tool is on here, they don't really have breakdowns. but they're amazing and jambi is just badass, so it's ok.

  • yeah they really don't have breakdowns

    but they have breakdown-esque outros

    like in Schism and Vicarious

  • damn, you and i think alike.

  • I definitely agree.. Amazing musicians.

  • wait, my bad, i just realized tool actually does have kindof a breakdown on undertow

but still, there's none on jambi.

  • The bled sound like they're ripping off glass casket.

  • lamb of god? origin-antithesis should have been in

  • haha cool list. I like the BTBAM and Human Abstract especially. If you like breakdowns check out the one at the end of "Autodidact" by BTBAM

also Veil of Maya's "we bow in its aura",

    Born of Osiris's "Abstract Art",

and basically any song by Knives Exchanging Hands

  • I'm actually a huge fan of We Bow In Its Aura. I was thinking about making a new breakdown video and that would definitely be in it.

  • its funny how theirs no Pantera.. all this fuckin stupid hardcore faggit shit pisses me off.. but some good songs on the list :D

  • Lmfao did you just say Pantera...

    Lmfao.

  • Pantera has good breakdowns in songs like domination and i think becoming has 1

  • yeah there's alot of good breakdowns from pantera.

i don't know what your problem with hardcore is though. grow up.

  • most of these ar ejust interludes

  • just because they aren't your run-of-the-mill deathcore brodowns doesn't mean they aren't breakdowns.

  • i loved the opeth one, but i personnaly didn't liked the "the bled" one

  • lol unearth lets u know the breakdowns coming. "BREAKDOWN!"

  • tool, + Opeth don't have bd's you dunce

I don't see how you think they are. domination by pantera has more of one than jambi

  • The Bled kick ass. I love Red Wedding

  • The Bled is so sick. Red Wedding has an insane breakdown.

  • Great bands but not all of them are the best ones for choosing breakdowns from. A few awesome choices though.

  • I never actually knew Tool has any breakdowns that good. lovin' it

  • the bled one is utterly sick, i have to learn it now to cover in my band

  • shoulda threw "the patient" "breakdown" i dont like to calll them breakdowns cuz tools tool you know the deal but that ones 100times better than the jambi one

  • YEAH TOOL!

  • I think breakdowns in The Human Abstract songs Mea Culpa and Crossing the Rubicon are better than the on in Vela, but that's just my opinion.

  • for opeth, the breakdown at the end of deliverance is way better

  • This is my favorite breakdown list ive seen on youtube.

  • the bled breakdown ownz all of them

  • Opeth doesn't have breakdowns.

  • Please see 'All Hail the Dead' by Walls of Jericho

  • omfg, that jambi one was pretty sweet.

  • yeah tool is a sick band

  • ghost of perdition breakdown also fucking owns!

  • Slit Your Guts...Everytime i hear that i must bang my head.

  • good list. The Bled was best

  • slit ur guts!

  • Our Own Grave by All Shall Perish is sick, too.

  • The arsis breakdown is possibly my favourite piece of music ever.

  • My favorite breakdown ever that's for sure.

  • protest the motherfucking hero

  • Thank you for having Baying of the Hounds, Jambi and Alaska!

  • hmm you should listen to suffocation

  • yes bind torture kill by suffocation

  • yes bind torture kill by suffocation

  • Between Buried and Me fuckin OWN

  • LOL

  • idk if you forgot to add them or if you were born without ears, but ASP kicks serious musical ass!!
