You have to identify "them," and who you are referring too. MLB was not trying to catch anyone. It was an experimental test in 2003. To me, when you say "them" it means the media, and they were definitely trying to expose him, for financial gain. These guys get paid too much, but I disagree that they aren't professionals. AROD may be a dick, but I guarantee you that he works hard, and honestly I can't imagine playing 162 games and travelling like that. It must be very grueling.

In terms of asterisks, not getting into the Hall of Fame will be the ultimate *. As long as Selig is there, there won't be asterisks. History will be selective and the public perception will be the ultimate decider in that regard. McGwire and Sosa will not get in. Sosa sucked before roids, and McGwire was good before, but his deniability and attitude has not helped his cause. Bonds and AROD were perceived to be great before allegations, so I think they will get in one day.
