  • Are Swedes very forgiving if you mispronounce words. Is it like English where foreigners mispronounce words often, but we don't seem to care?

  • Thanks for your cool video! I think it is very important when people share their knowledge and encourage other people to get to know different cultures more. It is so cooll that channels like Speak Swedish Stupid and Sweden channel exist on YouTube. Even if it a short video about Swedish massage it still makes you think about Sweden :D

    Thank s a lot!

  • Min favoritfärg är Grön :D

Btw Purple is Lila in hunagrian language too :D

  • Tack! i'm going to study in Sweden in two weeks, your video's give me a head start ^^

  • Its so irritating me and annoys me all these ''cool'' things like for ex. in the numbers video all the ''lets go theres no turning back'' and stuff shits. or the upside down text. i mean it would be really helpful for me but i cant stand this

  • OMG! I LOOOVVVEEEEE YOUR ACCENT!!!

  • Thank you for the lessons you have posted. I have a long drive to get to work, I listen to your posts as I drive. If anyone reading this would like to help me learn and correct my Swedish online, as in skype, or another web form, I would love the help. We could chat live online, and work on my Swedish? There are some things I would like to learn that I have not found yet, and I don't really trust the internet translator all that much

  • @GoSwedish - Thanks a lot for your reply :-) Now I've learned some more and of course, you are right, there is no such word like "liker" in Swedish, I guess I took it from Norwegian which I also listen to very often and sometimes I move the word from one language to another by mistake. Thank you :-) Du är verkligen trevlig och hjälpsam, tack så mycket!

  • Jag förstår "ett grönt hus" för att det har "ett," och då "en grön bil" har "en." Men varför säger man, "Jag tycker om grönt" istället för "Jag tycker om grön"? Jag studerar svenska men har ingen aning om det. Om man säger, "Jag tycker om grön" på svenska, låter det konstigt eller?

  • @MillionthUsername Hej! Talar du svenska? Your Swedish here is very well written. I'll take this in English in case more people wish to know. You can absolutely say "Jag tycker om grön" and that won't be weird; the more you practice you will hear when something sounds odd or not. I do say you can say this sentence and that will be fine, you could also add: "Jag tycker om färgen grön" as in "I like the colour green" - do I complicate it all more now? Pardon!

  • @GoSwedish I started learning Swedish with your videos last year and it's become a fun hobby since then, so thank you. I've been learning a lot by just reading Swedish comment sections on YouTube and blogs elsewhere. I bought a helpful book on grammar too. It seems that maybe the "t" ending is simply preferred? "Det" is the default for "it" if "den" is not required, so it's probably just a preference in the language without much meaning.

  • @MillionthUsername I need to tell you that this does confuse me as well as I find it a little bit tricky to explain grammar, you know? I know it, of course as I am Swedish and it's my native language but to me it came naturally since a child so to explain the grammar is not easy for me; I am not a professional Swedish teacher, sadly. Although, what I do teach is what I do know, for sure. Hmm, yet how shall I explain why one would say "Grönt" instead of "Grön" ? ... *Looks to Google for answers*

  • @GoSwedish It seems to me that Swedes will also say "vackert" and "underbart" in comments, preferring the "t" ending. These are adjectives with no noun present to modify, so the "t" shouldn't matter. It's confusing because I don't know if it's meant as an adverb (beautifully, wonderfully) in that case instead of an adjective (beautiful, wonderful) or if it's just a writing/speaking preference. We'll see if any Swedish grammar scholars come along to help. : )

  • @MillionthUsername With this all said, if someone else can help out and explain, we'd appreciate it! If you have a teacher who teaches you Swedish then surely he/she has the answers for grammar questions? I will be teaching more grammar on my channel which I know, but this one got me stuck and it's good that I admit that rather then make up lies; I say it like it is. You can trust me.

  • @MillionthUsername

If you wanna be really picky grön without the t is actually the only correct way to say it in a sentence like that when you refering to the color only and not describing the color when it's on a thing, at least according to grammar, but as GoSwedish says we still use both ways so you may say it as you feel like and it will sound just as good.

  • yay!, i love how you don't just stop at the basic colors ^_^

  • Oh my God, in spanish we say pink the same :D. The pronounciation is a bit different though..

  • I really love your videos :D I have wanted to learn swedish for a long time, and your videos are really helpful for getting started. Your voice is really clear and pretty, so it makes learning nicer too. I always take notes in my "swedish journal" and I'll look at them when I don't have internet connection (like at school). Thank you for making these videos :)

  • Swedish is somewhere between german and english.

  • @issehi If you however wish to say "I don't like..." you will say "Jag tycker inte om...." I should do a video on this, actually. Thank you for your words and I appreciate your time in learning Swedish. You're very kind. I should mention that one can also use the word "Gilla" (the G is pronounced as a Swedish J) and that is the same as "To like" - "Tycka/Gilla" - "Jag gillar dig = I like you" "Jag gillar snö = I like snow" "- Jag gillar svenska = I like Swedish"

  • @issehi Hey! "Jag tycker om..." is "To like"... "I like birds, I like snow, I like Swedish, etc = Jag tycker om fåglar, jag tycker om snö, jag tycker om svenska" - You cannot say "Jag liker" in Swedish for that is not a word here. That is not Swedish, dear. If you want to speak Swedish you shouldn't say "Liker" because I don't know what that is; it's not Swedish. :)

  • I'm learning Swedish by myself for a couple of months now. First by reading without hearing it and I thought Swedish was a tough language to learn with some strange letters in it:). But after hearing spoken Swedish it’s actually quite easy, very similar to Dutch/Flemish (my native language). For example we also have the “ö”-sound but it is written as “ui” when you know these things it makes it a lot easier. I’ve watched some of your videos and they are really helpful so thank you! Grtz Belgium

  • "Brun" hahahahahaha that's absolute quality :) that's exactly how we say the word 'Brown' in Scotland :) that's another Scandinavian word we use along with 'maste' and 'mare' lol :D quality :)

  • Aaand I just checked your channel and you are Swedish lol my mistake :)

  • It killed me when you said "I have a question" in Swedish!! I loved the accent and the tone of your voice! Seriously what a cute voice you have! I see now what a beautiful language Swedish is, too bad I hadn't paid attention to it earlier! May I ask where you come originally from? Because you speak fluently but I read you are not originally Swedish. I am Greek and I am seriously thinking of giving Swedish a try, just wondering if you had troubles with the accent etc. Kyss!

  • Mycket bra tjejen. Valdigt pedagogiskt...o tack for du sprider svenskan

  • När du säger beige uttalar du det beers, jag säger bäärs :D

  • i like how you spelt colour correctly, as opposed to another swedish teacher on youtube who thinks that the english language comes from america

  • @dave3152 Hehe, thank you so much. :)

  • @dave3152 The spelling of the word 'color' is the least of your concerns when you can't capitalize or punctuate your sentence correctly. Anyway, it's not as if Americans even invented that spelling. Britons had spelled it that way since at least the 1400s and it just happens that Daniel Webster preferred it when he compiled his dictionary. English comes from America, Canada, Australia, you name it, as much as it does from Britain, and has for centuries, so it's high time you got used to it.

  • @dave3152

As far as I know, Americans spell it "color", Brits spell it "colour". Same with "grey + gray"

  • why do you say blö in the colours and blött in sentences, and the same thing with röd . im confused :s

  • @160daryaa Blå and blått, you mean? Well, it's grammar. It's tricky to explain. Hmm. I can understand it confuses you, dear. But don't stress about why the color changes in these sentence. Just make sure to learn the colors as they are - because that is the most important to begin with. If anyone reads this and knows how to explain this then I welcome them to explain it to you if they wish to.

  • @GoSwedish It has to do with the gender of the noun it describes. If it describes a common gender like book ('bok' in swedish) which has the definite form -en (as suffix; 'boken', 'the book') it will remain 'blå' as in 'En blå bok' (A blue book), but if it describes a neuter gender like house ('hus' in swedish) which has the definite form -et ('huset', 'the house') it will turn into 'blått' as in 'Ett blått hus' (A blue house). Also goes for: 'Boken är blå' and 'Huset är blått'.

  • oh no I'm an American......European English is so different.....crap

  • how old are you?

  • @TheGamer542 I'm 24 years old.

  • @GoSwedish you dont look or sound any where near that age you sound about 15-16 O_O and look too

  • @GoSwedish what?! are you 24?! But your voice is so soft. you sound much younger. thats really cool.

  • @GoSwedish What kind of Swedish accent do you have?

The way you pronounce ö (like in röd) sounds odd to me. But admittedly my Swedish isn't very good (although my mother is Swedish)

  • your voice and videos are excellent ! ... i loved the way you said ... Colours !

  • Oh OK I just seen the notice message..Hope you explained it in the next videos LOL..

  • Why did Gul and Grön turn into Gult and Grönt in sentence?

  • @AnimationTR Excuse my very late reply. I can understand how it feels confusing that Gult & Grönt, etc, changed their spelling. This is the tricky grammar with Swedish, even for a Swede - especially to explain. I will try to explain this to you all later on, I will surely try :)

  • @AnimationTR Swedish nouns have genders, like Spanish (except their genders are neuter and common - which used to be the male and female genders - that is, they used to have male, female and neuter, but male and female combined into one). So in Spanish, rojo (red) changes to roja when it modifies a feminine noun (mesa roja - red table) - in Swedish, the adjective also changes in certain situations. To simplify things, most adjectives add a -t before a neuter noun, so: grönt bord (green table)

  • Hi Uppsala girl, you are doing great job for your language and for the people studying Swedish, please keep it up!. I flowing your class for Stockholm here. cheers

  • I first learn swedish 20 yaers ago ,I don`t remember much but few words that I heard brought me back in the days .tack so miska if this is the right way to say .

  • Oh ja. Ser ut som jag gjorde ett misstag också!

  • Hi im about 2 month here in Sweden and learning Swedish was really hard for me but honestly I started to enjoy learning when I heard your magical voice.im waiting for more videos !

  • wooow! I was looking for some swedish lessons & yours are excellent! I love them :) Please continue with youir videos.

  • It's interesting how similar the colors are between Swedish, Dutch and German. The biggest differences are the pronunciation of various letters within the word.

  • Bra att kunna alfabetet på engelska ;)) It is good to know Swedish alphabet;)) I live in Sweden;))

  • I really like the way you teach this swedish lang by ur own easy ways :)

and also i love ur lovely voice i wonder one thing perhaps u might half some of asian? isnt it? Are you full swedish? where do you live in sweden

I'm pearly your new student in goswedish class now :D haha so hope i get to know my teacher better

  • @Pakarang99 You are so sweet, I appreciate your words and for being a student in the class, hehe. I'm full Swedish so no Asian. I live in Uppsala in Sweden. Have you ever been to Sweden?

  • @GoSwedish I am living in sweden right now :) first time i visited sweden it was in stockholm i live there for 3 months but now i moved and live in Norrtalje ^___^ So that's good you're ful swedish u seem so kind and cute well nice to meet you.

  • @GoSwedish Where in Uppsala do you live? Omg :O

  • @GoSwedish I also live in Uppsala! :)

  • Awesome lesson! tack. why is there some times when Colours have a extra " T " or extra Double " T " As in.. Jag tycker om blått, grönt och gult. why Blå has a Double " T " and why does grön has a " T " at the end? id appreciate ur answer, i wish to know why those changes. Tack!

  • @infectedkoozer I honestly have no idea how to explain this just yet, it's all about grammar. Perhaps someone else could hop in here and explain this - grammar is quite tricky to explain and I don't want to teach something if I am not a 100% sure about it....

  • @GoSwedish Ok, thanks alot for ur honesty! (=

  • @infectedkoozer Oh, I wish so much that I could explain everything. I actually thought about this confusion when I taught the sentences. Goodness, it must feel so confusing for people when learning Swedish. But if you stay tuned I am sure an answer will find its way to you :) but yes, I like to be honest, because it would be wrong to guess my way through. Thanks for your kindness. Haters would be fast to attack me now after my honest comment ;)

  • @GoSwedish Hehe thank you very much once again (=, ill stay tuned for sure! Honesty and kindness are good friends hehe!

  • Your not swedish ?

  • @nosojdjos Are you asking me? I am full Swedish - but it's not very important, is it?

  • @GoSwedish I thought you posted a comment saying that you weren't swedish, that you just lived in Sweden, so I was curious if your accent was purely swedish. I can't really say where you're from but I've heard there are a few differences in some places, like the way you pronounce " själv " for instance has two pronunciations. Anyway, that was the reason of my question, not that you were genetically swedish or something like that.

  • Comment removed

  • lol vit is like wit in belguim

  • I owe you SO much for all your help..

  • @QuidditchMaster86 You're so kind, but if I get comments then I am the happiest! :) Thank You so much!

  • The word Ljus, is pronounced like the english word, use

  • @TheBaggy1337 No it isn't lmao. Use = Yous

    Ljus = Jus

  • The word Ljus, is pronounced use

  • @TheBaggy1337 Really ? "use" is pronounced like "yooz" I don't think the final "s" in "ljus" is pronounced like a "z"

  • @nosojdjos well your right, it's pronounced like yoose as a noun but it is yooze as a verb. Well who cares, Ljus it's pronounced with an s. That's all I wanted to know.

  • how old r u? i looove ur voice =)

  • @alaneur210 I'm 24 :) Thank You for your kind words, makes me smile :) How old are you?

  • @GoSwedish i'm 23and would really like to learn swedish, and i will from all ur videos =D

  • You,cute thing, are such a good teacher, they should like...name the world teachers award after you!

  • @playmannn That's just hilarious! I'd love it, of course! Who said you needed good grades to become a teacher, huh? (Just kidding, yes, you need great grates.) but if someone would have told me years ago that I'd be doing this I'd seriously laugh at them. I love teaching you guys - Best students in the world.

  • im from sweden

  • I love your videos ! :)

  • I thought pink was 'skar'...

  • @Achilles94627

Well, Almotst but it's spelled skär. Pink is called either rosa or skär, both words means the same. Skär is also what you sometimes call a very small island. It's also another word for saying pure but it's not very common to use for that :P

  • What a sweet voice!

  • these are kinda hard :o but i can surprisingly say them slightly well

  • pls add some more video on counting as it was..............tack

  • please....why yellow is gul and in the sentence there's nothing wrong with yellow is it gult??? What does the t means???

  • your voice sounds cute and beatiful :)

  • are you sweden?

  • @YuppiGirl94, no. I am not Sweden. Sweden is the country that I live in.

  • @GoSwedish HAHAAAaaaaaaaa I died laughing at that response!!....well almost LOL!

btw you sound like ur trying to hypnotize us hehe, "gul" was really hard for me to pronounce properly!

    cheerio

  • @Micromusecut Well, it could be that I am trying to hypnotize you, my dearest people... ;)

  • @GoSwedish Correction, I belive you ment "No. I am not Swedish. Sweden is the country that I live in." . Oh well, it was just a small mistake :P I just wanted to point it out. P.S. I'm Swedish and live in Sweden too :D

  • @Rokonization No, it's not what I meant. I meant to write exactly what I wrote down: "No, I am not Sweden. Sweden is the country that I live in" as a response to YuppiGirl94 who asked me the following question: "Are you Sweden?" - I am pretty sure I am not the country itself - because Sweden is the country that I live in. Therefore; no, I am not Sweden. I believe you meant to write "Meant" instead of "´Ment" - I thought I'd point it out. It's just a small mistake. Good to hear from a Swede :D

  • You do have a beautiful, soothing sounding voice. It almost puts me to sleep, in a good way not in the boring way of course. I did have a two questions, have you made any videos in which you appear just to put the voice to a face. And are you swedish or you just live there?

  • pink in swdish is like pink in spanish, just the pronounced a little differently

  • yay!! XD they Are Very Helpful Because You Make It More Easier To Learn Languages i Wish They Do What You Do In School It Will Be A lot Easier XD!!

  • beach is like saying biatch with a small accent

id use it excessively over there in sweden lol

  • Tack så mycket! for updating this video. I love the new items you added. Min favorit färg är lila. I am learning so much here!! :)

  • Thank you for repeating the sentences, it makes it easier to hear it, then try to repeat it along with you rather than pausing and going back and all. Awesome video though, thanks for making these and can't wait to see more! :)

  • Thank You! It is a shame your video can only be up to 10 minutes here, otherwise I could repeat myself way more. I am glad you like the video, means alot!

  • I'm especially confused on how you pronounce 'g'. Can you do a video on that?

  • Yeah, I am thinking of doing videos to explain certain letters and sounds. So I will keep this in mind. Thanks!

  • I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS,i really do!

  • ....another good one! .. ;-)

  • yay !! =) mised your videos, thank for sharing with us your great work

  • thank you for your videos! they are all so helpful and fun! :)

  • Thank You very much! :)

  • Haha, you're videos always make me smile :)

  • You comment just made me smile! Thank You :)

  • tack sa mycket

  • Jippie! En ny video! :D

Min favoritfärg är blå, men alla färgen är fin, som du sa! (I really hope I'm making sense here! I'll always try to write at least part of my comments in Swedish so that you can see how helpful your lessons are).

I love this new version of the video and the way you edited it, with the colours fading out and stuff. :)

  • Ugh, I meant färgeR, not färgeN.

Oh, and I have a question... I know many people ask you about this, but I noticed that some people, you included, pronounce the word "kanske" as something like "kanshe", and other people pronounce it with a sound like the "sj" in the word "sju"... What's with that? Is it just a matter of accent? I'd love to learn more.

    Once again, thank you. :)

  • Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate them. You're doing so great with Swedish. And yes, it's a matter of accent, or dialect where people pronounce certain words differently like for an axample "Kanske" we have many accents here. I live in Stockholm so I speak as we do here.

  • The further north you go in Sweden the more emphasis you will hear on the sh-sound. Up here in Luleå where I live we pronounce "kanske" with a heavy "sh". Like "kanSHe"

We also usually joke about the Stockholmers talking a bit silly, a bit fussy, if you know what I mean. Though it's the other way around too since a lot of Stockholmers think us northeners sound a bit dumb (like the northen americans think the southern americans sound a bit dumb sometimes).

    :P

  • Oops. I meant that we pronounce kanske with a heavy "sj" sound (like in sju) up here, not "sh".

  • That's interesting! :)

Similar things happen with Brazilian Portuguese, too - in Rio people pronounce the "s"s with a "sh" sound and in São Paulo people roll the "r"s quite heavily. And here in the northeast region even the alphabet sounds a bit different - the letters G and J sound a lot like in the Swedish alphabet, which people from other regions think to be the freakiest thing.

  • I was intrigued by the different ways of pronouncing words like "kanske" 'cause I think that "sj" sound is so beautiful and hard to imitate. :P

  • LOVE your vids ;D
