We use a spreadsheet that we print off and post on the fridge. We also have envelopes for everything. We are a family of 8 (6 boys) and it is a game for me to be able to stay below my $125/week grocery budget. I hate seeing the money leave the envelopes so I try to save as much as I can.!
I have been having a hard time deciding on a weekly budget. My biggest expense is groceries. We are a family of 6 and I am feeding 4 growing boys who love to eat!! And I am very picky about what food I feed them......no junk, mostly organic. Can others give examples of how much they spend weekly on groceries????
@themomofboys4 I can't speak for others but we budget $100 a week for our family of 4. I have heard families of 6-8 making it on the same or less. I fill my shopping cart with lots of fresh produce, lean meats, and dairy. We don't do junk either. I am also on e-mealz which provides dinners and leftovers for my hubby and I the next day. Our plan feeds 6 for $75 a week.
We made a monthly budget just yesterdaynight together and we decided on a weekly food budget just to see if we can do it. Hopefully we can master this and finetune this in the course of next year. Tnx for the inspiration !
@beerzzz You can SO do this! You will tweak it many times and that's ok! The point is that you are telling your money where to go. It's not controlling you! Awesome you guys!
@lauraemily83 HA HA! The girl will fall asleep ANYWHERE! Shopping carts, the couch watching TV with me, the hallway, the table, toilet leaning on a roll of tp! She has always loved the car. That is pretty much a guarantee! :)
My grocery envelope actually became empty yesterday while in line @ the supermarket. I nearly had a panic attack...lol I Luckily, the coupons saved the day. Knowing your expenses is vitally important. Cutting things out of that list is challenging, but worth it. Congrats to the winner.
@wowlifeisgood A panic attack is always followed with a sense of accomplishment and pride that I am leading my family in a positive direction. I too have those! Great job with the coupons!
I remember when we started out Total Money Makeover and writing out where all of our money was going and the sick feeling I got to see how much money went down the drain. It did however change our spending habits very quickly!
@thelucasgang YEAH BABY! Reading that book showed me that I was doing it ALL wrong! Changed our spending habits immediately! When we were questioned why? It was because Dave Ramsey said so!
Excited about what I can do this new year. Thinking about doing the once (a week, month)cooking to save money. Children are grown . I spent too much money eating out.
@Lambchop532001 Love that cooking idea! Not sure if you've heard me talk about e-mealz in the videos but they have a meal plan for 2. It's just as easy as going out but much less painless!
Our weekly budget is on a post-it note and then at the end of the week we subtract all the outgoings and save anything left over, not very "tech savvy" but it seems to work. Loving all your videos they are really inspiring !!! THANKS
@carter5209 Can I just say that I love this comment! It is simplicity at it's best! Keep rockin the post-it's! Thank you for watching and for supporting us.
We use the free website mint dot com to track our weekly budget, but we also use the envelope system because mint by itself didn't work out for us (as we spent it anyway). Using the envelopes has been awesome, and I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend it! I hope that counts since we pretty much tell every dollar where to go now. :o)
@lauraemily83 My girlfriend was just telling me about this website. It works awesomely for her but as for me, I need to physically see the dollars leaving those envelopes! Envelopes ROCK!!! But hey, whatever holds you accountable and mint is FREE!
We will be doing our keeping track of everything next week. I am one of those that has to start on a Monday. Congratulations to Navywife! You are such a blessing to all who are watching and following. Keep up the great work. Hugs! Bobbi Jo
Its amazing how all the little things add up. We started $100 food budget a week for our fam of 4, right about the time you started making your vids. And its HARD sticking to $100. The more I pay attention to it, the more money things seem to cost. Just being aware.
@prioritymom Crazy! It is hard, I do agree. I find myself reaching for something and reminding myself what the prize is. Absolutely it was a slap upside the head when we stopped putting our groceries on a credit card! Great job! Keep up the good work!
My wife and I came across your channel because your budget meeting video was recommended by The Great Recovery Facebook page. Your family is awesome and we look forward to watching your v-logs everyday. Thanks for inspiring our family to get with it. You guys are great!
Oh my goodness! Mine already done. I go over our budgets weekly from the previous week. We are a family of 6. In that family of 6. 2-adults, 2-teenagers (one girl and one boy) and 3 total growing boys. Our weekly food budget is between $80 and $100 weekly. We don't buy lunches out.....I pack my kids lunch boxes and my husband takes leftovers to work. So no expense there. Love the videos!
@momitude 80 STINKIN' BUCKS!?!? Please do share your secrets with us! That is beyond awesome and with BOYS! I am thankful we are getting our finances in order before the girls are teens:) Thank you for watching.
