The only reason I mention this is Joseph's version seems to focus on the animals changing, but the version I know focuses on the punishments for doing evil and mischief and learning to get along in your surroundings. Joseph's version just skims the surface of that lesson.

I like the Bruchac's...this is an interesting take on this story. I'm not from their area, but in my area this story involves Koluskap's brother Malsom and Malsom's creation Laks. In the version I know Laks convinces the large animals into mischief and destruction and that's why Koluskap changed them to become smaller. He wanted humans and animals to be equals, but the animals sought to rule humans and their punishment was they would become servants of humans and provide food and shelter.
