One of the few things I remember from psychology in high school was that gender is not as black and white as people want it to be. Lots of babies are born with bits of both genitalia and doctors have to make a decision, they don't always make the right one. Some people find this out later, and try to "fix" it. Some people use that to explain why they like the same sex or why males are more feminine and girls are masculine. But it could also play into some people being part each.
@GoNoAMMo I don't think we even covered psychology when I went to high school. I think though, that the term "trans" covers more than just what you're born with. Some people are born a girl but identify as a boy, and vice versa, even without having been born with male genitalia. Trans can also refer to cross-dressers, or anyone who wants to identify as trans and feels its an appropriate label for them. Gender is certainly more fluid than people think, and is certainly different from sex!
Hey Grace, been wondering what the low down with you was lately. Nice to see a vlog, and a good one at that. I'm glad you found such a great idea for a PhD, although I have to admit I'm still trying to figure out some of it...
@kookiemoose I'm glad you asked! LGBTQ stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Queer. I believe there is also another form of the "Letters" as they're called, that attempts to be more inclusive with LGBTQQA (the last Q and A stand for Questioning and Allies). I hope that clarifies things!
@tactlessgrace Thanks Grace. I would have absolutly positively NEVER have guessed that about LGBTQ. Do you know I had to Google "LULZ" this morning. A guy I'm subscribed to keeps saying it in his vlogs, and I had no clue what it meant, but instead of trying to figure it out, I just invented what I "thought" could be the definition of this word, and kept watching his vlogs. The actual meaning of LULZ, and what I always thought it meant; WAY different.
@tactlessgrace. LULZ: the act of entertaining oneself with the misfortune of others; an agreeable occupation for the mind. At least that is what the internet says. I'm glad you didn't know what it meant either : P
