Denmark is used as a metaphor. More specifically one might assume that Jay Brennan is singing about a guy that is afraid of loving him back because same-gender sexuality is not accepted in his community.

Melllabunnny: I've been looking for this song as it is my favourite ! I asked Jay to sing it in Dublin, Ireland, on 6th May last.....he did....so I recorded it in HD and posted it on my page. I can't understand why he hasn't put it on his new "In Living Covers" album.........but I suspect that this song is deeply personal for him. It's not available on itunes nor is Soda Shop, By the way we all love Denmark !

No, one isn't in Denmark; Denmark was the first country to legalize gay marriage and so it's saying like he'll take them to a haven where they can be in love. They are indeed far apart, but I dunno about different countries and that isn't the significance of the Denmark part.
