I wouldn't call you a hater, but I can see why you would dislike him. To be honest, I don't really care. I'm more of a DIMEBAG fan anyway. LOL!
christians should just stick to their gothic chamber music...they had a good thing going with that. i actually like that music. but when they do their incredibly cheap imitations of secular music, it just makes you feel plastic from the inside out to even listen to it.
I love Dave saying rock is an art form! They expected him to agree and slam christian rock. He stands where he stands and can't be swayed. Also a lot of the bands didn't start out secular then go to Christianity because they couldn't succeed. they started out there.
To me real rock music has never cared about religion, spiritually on the other hand is another story but when I see a band like Creed infect every single radio station and every single television while everyone just nods their head and goes yea this rocks while these cheap fucking Christ fuckers suck the pre-verbal manna from the veins of every Christians wallet around the country it just make me want to put on a tool record and shake my head
I just find it so interesting that people are willing to do anything to convince others of their ideology even if it means using the same tools to sway people as artist like Mick Jagger and John Lennon. It totally cool if you want to play rock music for Jesus but I hope that the person who is playing that music realizes that there was a time in our nations history when the catholic church called rock the devils music
@thelivingfire and there where times when stoning someone wasnt a crime
such things and ideologies evolve but the core principle of christian faith is to love God and to love your neighbour
thats whats important
not to persecute people with an alternative perspective
People dont want to be told theyll burn in hell for their life style or state of mind then others (and this isnt at you) should not persecute people for believing that there is a God or religion
It has and has always been that real rock music will emerge from anywhere it can, I remember going to punk rock shows that were held at Christian community centers not because the church did organize them but because the location was for rent to the public
The truth is I have met people who call themselves Christian punk rockers that to me is like calling yourself a republican punk rocker the two concepts contradict one another so much that it makes me laugh
I agree with Bill. Rock n roll from its very conception was opposed by conservative Christians and religious leaders across the glob, rock n roll is a tool that was originally used by rebellious artists to speak out against the very institutions that are using it now to influence our youth because in the end rock one now religion is trying to abuse it
@TheJoec2005 I don't think they were so much uncomfortable as they were bored. That bit went on just a wee bit too long. More like something that should be done during the opening monologue- or not at all, preferably.
Dave Navarro just gained immense respect from me for standing up for the people expressing their passion using today's popular vehicle to do it. The Christian music that is being made these days is far better than the "rock and roll" of today. There are only a few really great rock bands left that have actual talent. The rest of them scream their heads off and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. The guitars chug away on open D while the singer screams. They call that "rock". I say it sucks!
dave navarro has never seen chicks giving head backstage because no one wants to fuck the guys in janes addiction. you know why? its because they're the guys from janes addiction
I agree with David Navarro---rock & roll doesn't have to be about the most extreme, carnal, sexual, evil stuff-you can celebrate love & freedom ,acknowledge sexuality embrace rebelliousness without it fitting those conventional sexdrugsrocknroll mentality--music can really be heavy/swinging/rock out & the lyrics may be about the Easter bunny-if Christians/Buddhists or whatever want to play rock/metal/punk it can find other ways to approach those topics maybe more subtly or in a different way-
He's right allright that it's a great album. One of my favourite albums of all time. And that's kinda' silly. I've been waiting for a Dave Navarro pt. 2 for a while now. But no matter how good it'll be it will never be better than "Trust No One".
@flamelegs Nope, not just you. The words Christian and Rock just don't belong together. It's an oxymoron. Ever heard of Stryper? They were a "hair metal" Christian band from the 80s who managed to become popular with secular audiences by writing hit singles w/ intentionally ambiguous song lyrics. After their core audience (mainly naive and horny teenage girls) caught on to the fact their dreamboats were more interested in god than girls Stryper pretty much closed shop and faded into oblivion.
@flamelegs NO it just ficking sux big time - something about holier than thou types trying to be HR merchants, which does require a cetain amount of veil - they just can't cut it !
rock n roll-thats weird-id get kicked in the face cause its the devils music but now its in the religion-tells you how things change over the years in religion which makes me think "is that all thats changed?"-not at all
mya loved rocking out to JA in bilboa babe. it really pisses me off that people are pissed of with dave for his honest opinions and the way he is articulate in expressing them. and as i have said before - I really hope LipsticTraces is using her pyschology degree well as it will take her another 7 years working at burger king to pay it off!
Dave is a fucking tool. Bill is right. Christianity or any other religion cannot connected to Rock and Roll. Rock and Roll is a SUBCULTURE, meaning it goes OUTSIDE the status quo, or contrary to the social/religious norm. Christian(religion) Rock is an oxymoron.
idk y u got thumbs down. ur right. christian rock is believed to be of the devil but some churches are so desperate to get kids in they will use it to get their attention. *shrug* just how the story goes.
They were all drug users, underage girl/boy fuckers, and disgusting gluttons. Fuck "Christanity." And you can always tell when It's "Christian Rock", because it SUCKS.
heres an argument for you conservatives out there, of which i belong, i just realized one of the greatest praises of bush is "he kept us safe for 7 years"..... wait a minute....wasnt he president on 9/11? i AM NOT SAYING IT WAS HIS FAULT OR HE ORCHESTRATED IT. i am simply saying this argument is invalid because even though he kept us safe for seven years, he also was the president during one of the most horrific attacks in american history...... take that and shove it....
Yeah, totally and I didn't realize it until after seeing this clip of him.
I have to go with Bill on this one, Rock music is about 'raging against the machine', not conformity. Christian "rock" bands just produce generic-sounding songs, like they all use the same template or something. Case in point- Nickelback and Creed- lame!!!
Also, I agree with both Maher and Navarro. Music can and should be able to be about whatever the hell you want it to be, but "Christian Rock" is an oxymoron. If you listen to it, most of the songs can't even be called 'rock', it's more like singer/songwriter down-tempo pieces. If you read a bit, a lot of Christian musicians say that's because the -music-, not the lyrics, the -music- of modern rock is to edgy...
A compromise can be reached by saying "christian music", or "propaganda chants."
ChetR - I disagree, except for Elvis, I don't know much about him.
Little Richard was a flaming faggot. It's hard to maintain religion when you're at odds with it on that level. Jerry Lee Lewis married his thirteen year old cousin... Not very Christian (though semi-Mormon), and Johnny Cash was made of sin and substance abuse. Anybody can say they're anything they want - I could say I'm Buddhist, but if I were to go out and kick the shit out of three guys for no reason, it wouldn't count...
I love Dave... and no art form should be confined to a single message, art evolves with the times and what that era is trying to express... which constitutionally is a right to excersise as one sees fit. In addition, at His time, Jesus was a rebell, its not like his ideas were mainstream back then, so you can make a connection in essense not context.
Navarro is far too intelligent for these people. Especially the "comedian". And the host. He's running rings round the idiots. And why won't they listen to what the woman say?
Dave Navarro is sitting there and as a fan of his..i can tell, and im sure everyone else can...he doesnt find anything the host was saying to be funny at all!!
No wonder the best hash is from that area... xD Got the whole damn thing wrong. And even though i don't aprove drugs at all id rather have people getting high than getting...well...hit by rocks to avoid any misunderstanding.
Did Navarro's album of "enlightenment" enlighten him to fact Carmen Electra was a money-grubbing no-talent? Christianity has always co-opted art to try to appeal to the masses. It's called marketing and it's what the church does best. And we all know that what marketing is is a bunch of empty promises made to lure the non-thinking into buying into crap they don't need.
LOL!! That was good!! Bill Maher really hates organized religion. SO WHAT IF THEY HAVE CHRISTIAN ROCK??? Amazing that Dave Navarro seems to be the rational one in this conversation.
Dave Navarro is right. I personally don't care about Christan Rock, but if people want to make that kind of music, they should be aloud to. Just don't buy it.
man that guy from half baked has never been funny outside of that movie, and even then he was only funny because other actually funny people wrote his lines.
Navarro buries everyone in this interview... he is right, from what I saw everyone there except him just wants to take stabs at Christianity... All music is about expression not to be discriminatory against a certain type of expression....
Bill Maher sounds ignorant. His whole thing is "Rock is cool. God's not and I'm cool because I believe that." which I agree with but doesn't make a valid argument.

heres an argument for you conservatives out there, of which i belong, i just realized one of the greatest praises of bush is "he kept us safe for 7 years"..... wait a minute....wasnt he president on 9/11? i AM NOT SAYING IT WAS HIS FAULT OR HE ORCHESTRATED IT. i am simply saying this argument is invalid because even though he kept us safe for seven years, he also was the president during one of the most horrific attacks in american history...... take that and shove it....

oy! bill maher is surrounded by idiots

navarro is neither intelligent nor insightful, he is exactly what everyone else is on the panel; product salesperson.
Hes a total douchebag and his opinion is worth less than a christian rock album.
kennebacasiskyle 3 years ago 5
He's an extremely hot total douchebag.
Tamastara 3 years ago 4
Yeah, totally and I didn't realize it until after seeing this clip of him.
I have to go with Bill on this one, Rock music is about 'raging against the machine', not conformity. Christian "rock" bands just produce generic-sounding songs, like they all use the same template or something. Case in point- Nickelback and Creed- lame!!!
acrawf11 2 years ago 3
They're free to play the chords, but they'll never be a part of the rock culture.

"It's hard to play an electric guitar when your hands are nailed to a cross!" Wooooo Harland!

Dave just likes to get along with everyone, he's not a rebel. although his lipstick and cocksucking is cool.

Navarro is far too intelligent for these people. Especially the "comedian". And the host. He's running rings round the idiots. And why won't they listen to what the woman say?

Did Navarro's album of "enlightenment" enlighten him to fact Carmen Electra was a money-grubbing no-talent? Christianity has always co-opted art to try to appeal to the masses. It's called marketing and it's what the church does best. And we all know that what marketing is is a bunch of empty promises made to lure the non-thinking into buying into crap they don't need.

what music should they use? gangsta rap?
"the church is my crib, the lord is my pimp, ill crucify any any muthafucka who dont understand this"

Wrong about the number of terms, Bill! No one could have seen that the Dems would produce such a weak ass candidate as John Kerry in 2004!

i hate religion in all forms
but music is music and christians can make whatever type of shity music they want.
amazingjames311 4 years ago
Navarro buries everyone in this interview... he is right, from what I saw everyone there except him just wants to take stabs at Christianity... All music is about expression not to be discriminatory against a certain type of expression....

It doesent really matter rock and roll is dead or at least on an IV.Dave navarro is full of shit.

Bill Maher sounds ignorant. His whole thing is "Rock is cool. God's not and I'm cool because I believe that." which I agree with but doesn't make a valid argument.
