I don't like injustice of any kind. So why can't AMD chips get equality in the review stakes. ? It's so unfair that the reviews of 90% of Intel i7 930 vs AMD Thuban reviews are skewed in favour of intel and their design.
The only place doing equality reviews seems to be Tom's hardware. Which shows that the Thuban is a match for the i7 930 (a great chip by the way).
I prefeer AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE because it is better and cheaper than i7, some people thinks than 920 is better than amd because it´s only intel, but you have to see it by other side, Phenom II 955 has better performance than I7 920, and is faster. In case of overclocking comparing both procesors 920 sucks because it maxium clock i´s lower than 4.3 ghz and the Phenom II 955BE can be overclocked up to 6.5 ghz

Guys, AMD is not doing so bueno right now. I like AMD, but Intel has'em pinned with IPC right now. The 2500k has even taken away the price/performance title.
If bulldozer comes out and whoops some butt, yeah AMD might be on his list of good stuff, but right now it's just lower end stuff.
@SamuraiBatgirl you have a point in that price range but it's very hard to get anything intel in the sub $100 area worth having. amd is completely different at that price point. i know not everyone is gonna cheap out on a cpu but i did and i very pleased with mt athlon II 450.

@blueovalfan23 I do folding@home. The hyper threading that the i7's have allows you to do the -bigadv work units (the BIG ones). The 2700k is also supposed to be a higher binned 2600k so while overclocking it's likely one can go to higher clocks speeds. :D
I also game. If gaming was all I did though, I'd go for the 2500k. I can't wait! :D

I have not found one review or benchmark test on the web were the 2 systems were built equally. All benchmarks i've seen. are biased in favor of Intel. Usually by adding more mem in the Intel system. Or a faster harddrive Doing benchmarks with 4 gig ram in the AMD system, and 6 gig in the INTEL system are not fair benchmarks. I know as a heavy computer user that more RAM or a fast harddrive makes a huge difference in computer perfomance
Well keep in mind guys that this was posted mid-year of 2009, that was over 2 years ago. AMD has leaped a lot from then, they now have 32nm technology and have said that soon they will release the 28nm graphics card. And there new "bulldozer" is going to check that i7 in a big way. haha AMD is great, and i'm sure they will soon put intel on there heels. But like I said, in all fairness, intel was great in 2009.
i think amd is better,atleast its hard to kill one...i have a phenom x4 955 BE that used to belong to a friend of mine...i helped him install it,and after some trouble with the DVD drive,we decided to reset the bios...for some reason that changed the clocking of the CPU to almost twice asmuch as standard (6300 mhz,standard is 3200).ON THE STOCK COOLER THAT CAME WITH IT!!! We didnt know that,so it ran like that for about 15 minutes.IT STILL WORKS!!! i seriously dont know how it survived that...

@Holzkohlen666 CPU's are major deal when it comes to gaming. If you were to have an Intel Pentium 4 with a GTX 570, your performance will decrease drastically, because of the bottlenecking of the CPU (being that it's so much of a lower end CPU). Sure, that setup is unrealistic, but it's proving my point.
AMD does perform well with its full platform LOL... "Dragon" and "Leo". Also with its ULTIMATE or BLACK vision.. Oh men.. this men really hiding the truth about amd. i7 only good with NVIDIA overpriced GPU.

Apparently someone had around $1500, was building a new computer and wasn't sure which of those two cpu's to pick. How did you not pick up on this? It's JUST as easy to overclock the phenom ii x4! Use AMD's overclock software (VTurbo or something like that); very easy but also in-depth if you'd like that

try the GA-890FXA-UD5 with the AMD-X6-1090T. amd's new chip works very well with this motherboard. thats whai i have. ok amd's are cheaper than intel but they get hot.

@stephmc111 i did notice when i benchmarked my 955 vs my i7 930 the 955 did produce more heat :( and had to be clocked almost an entire 1ghz to reach the performance of my i7... as i said in earlier posts i go with the company that makes the best and most effiecient of the time, and as of now Intel really laid a golden egg this time, eh... bad memories of the p4 left me on bad terms with Intel, after that i went all-out AMD. lol i7 rebuilt my trust with there company. I still like AMD :) though.

I agree with you the last pc i brought was pentium 4 dell used and it died about 2 year. now i am using emachine amd that worse then dell. @DragonlordXV that good. my first amd computer that i brought with my money it had 1.0 Ghz. It probaly had alot of things wrong with it. It kept flashing into startup. I think I had brought bad rig. I like both intel and amd. Having said that I am cheapie. My second computer I brought was intel celeron D 2.80 ghz it lasted a long time.
I built a backup computer for my parents business. It cost me about 240. I already had a harddrive.
Eitherway I went Phenom ii x4 965 BE, great clock speed and the fact is, when new AMD chips come out I can get it without also getting a new MOBO. With Intel the i3 and i5 1156 mobo's are already obsolete and I'm guessing by this time next year 1366 will also be obsolete and you'll have to get a new one if you want to upgrade to SandyBridge.

I will be upgrading my PC at xmas and I would like you to help me for my CPU choice. I am hesitating between the AMD Phenom II X4 970 Quad-Core @ 3.50 GHZ or the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six-Core @ 2.80 GHZ. I use my PC for intense 3D gaming so I need alot of processor ressource. The motherboard I will upgrading to is a ASUS Rog Crosshair IV Formula and my GPU will be a ASUS GTX 470 @ 1280M.

The i7 can OC well, but you dont need a steady 4.2GHz 24/7 in Graphic Design or gaming. A 3.2 stock quad core is sufficient. He could use the money he saved for Graphics and/or Memory.
Yea, but like the other guys said, it`s about price. Some of us aren`t rich or don`t have mummy\daddy paying out to us for whatever we want. We have to buy what`s within our daily survival budget.

What I love about the PC is that I can build up, bit by bit. I start off with a crap GPU, then later get a better GPU. I start with crap ram, but later sell that and upgrade to high quality overclocking ram. In August, I had an Intel duo core cpu; now I have an AMD Quad core 955 cpu
Point I`m making is we all seek the best, we just can`t all have the best NOW, whether we manage our cash perfectly or not.

So an Intel quad core that is clocked lower and has 2 less cores, for around the same performance and price i think i would get the 920..... know your facts and specs before you comment, ive had both Intel and AMD and i don't like fanboys! i go with what is the best and i have to say this time around Core i7 is winning. Hopefully AMD can pull out something better i really did like my phenom 955

The CPU doesn't matter that much!
For gaming you need to have a good graphics card. Of course if you have the best GPU in the world than a shitty CPU would slow it down.
You've got an awesome 6 core CPU and obviously you have to have a very good GPU as well. But if I were you I would buy 2 more gb of ddr3 ram.

try the GA-890FXA-UD5 with the AMD-X6-1090T. amd's new chip works very well with this motherboard. thats whai i have. ok amd's are cheaper than intel but they get hot.
the deal with intel vs amd is like ps3 vs xbox. its just marketing. both have pros and cons. so you see the i7 didnt rape anything. you do get what you pay for, amd found a way to make it cheeper. furthermore good job on the vid dude

@stephmc111 i did notice when i benchmarked my 955 vs my i7 930 the 955 did produce more heat :( and had to be clocked almost an entire 1ghz to reach the performance of my i7... as i said in earlier posts i go with the company that makes the best and most effiecient of the time, and as of now Intel really laid a golden egg this time, eh... bad memories of the p4 left me on bad terms with Intel, after that i went all-out AMD. lol i7 rebuilt my trust with there company. I must say Intel is high $

@james64468 i go with whose best, i think the pentium 4 ruined your experience cause it did mine :( i got 3 AMD cpus consecutively after that but then i decided to give intel another try with there i7's greatest buy i ever made the i7 930 i got outperformed my phenom x4 955 (latest cpu i had been using) by 46%!!! and i got the i7 930 $40 cheaper than what i paid for my 955. i just go for the best efficiency and performance, as of current Intel is that company. I still like AMD :) though.

I agree with you the last pc i brought was pentium 4 dell used and it died about 2 year. now i am using emachine amd that worse then dell. If i build another system i dont know if i go with amd or intel. If i have extra money i go intel try i7 930. I make a gaming rig not total powerful but enough to run bluray movies.

@DragonlordXV that good. my first amd computer that i brought with my money it had 1.0 Ghz. It probaly had alot of things wrong with it. It kept flashing into startup. I think I had brought bad rig. I like both intel and amd. Having said that I am cheapie. My second computer I brought was intel celeron D 2.80 ghz it lasted a long time.
I built a backup computer for my parents business. It cost me about 240. I already had a harddrive.

Eitherway I went Phenom ii x4 965 BE, great clock speed and the fact is, when new AMD chips come out I can get it without also getting a new MOBO. With Intel the i3 and i5 1156 mobo's are already obsolete and I'm guessing by this time next year 1366 will also be obsolete and you'll have to get a new one if you want to upgrade to SandyBridge.

If the guy who emailed would have thought his question through, It would be a no brainer. Im not a fan boy buy the AMD is a definite win. High Clock minus the larger L3 Cache, but far cheaper. The i7 can OC well, but you dont need a steady 4.2GHz 24/7 in Graphic Design or gaming. A 3.2 stock quad core is sufficient. He could use the money he saved for Graphics and/or Memory.

What I love about the PC is that I can build up, bit by bit. I start off with a crap GPU, then later get a better GPU. I start with crap ram, but later sell that and upgrade to high quality overclocking ram. In August, I had an Intel duo core cpu; now I have an AMD Quad core 955 cpu
Point I`m making is we all seek the best, we just can`t all have the best NOW, whether we manage our cash perfectly or not.

So an Intel quad core that is clocked lower and has 2 less cores, for around the same performance and price i think i would get the 920..... know your facts and specs before you comment, ive had both Intel and AMD and i don't like fanboys! i go with what is the best and i have to say this time around Core i7 is winning. Hopefully AMD can pull out something better i really did like my phenom 955
