DBZ was basically about power level whoring and overrating blonde hair rather than skill. Most of the DBZ fighters wouldn't stand a chance against Ten Shin Han, Yamcha and Krillin if everyone's power level was the same. Especially Broly who only spammed that wrestling arm swing and ki blasts over and over again during his entire fight.

I hate how in dbz Yamucha is out of the picture and the few times he actually trains and faces an enemy he gets owned without even moving. I also hate how in dbz they speed up everything to make it look like they are moving so fast you can't see them. I mean we already get that they are super strong from all the training they do. They started doing this in the Frieza saga and it gets worse from then on. I miss the dragon ball fights. They are the best fights out there.

Krillin's disk can cut trough anything. Chiaotzu is the weakest but has the coolest attack which is mind control.

Scenes like this are the ones that prove Dragon Ball's worth as a series. During Z and GT, the battles were fairly large in scale, but they always came down to the same thing: Who can transform into a higher state of being to become "the most powerful warrior in the universe until the next story arc" and blast the other guy into oblivion with a massive ki beam first?

In Dragon Ball, though, fighting was based on actual skill, not aura capacity, and ki attacks were a rarely used last resort.

Amen brother, it's a rare sight these days, to see a show based purely on actual martial arts skills. The franchise went from that into more sci-fi territory and while I don't hate that, I really enjoyed the original for what it was a lot more than the later shows.

That was the great time of the humans in DB! Mutenroshi - Master of Kamehameha, Kuririn - the creative best friend of Goku, Yamchu - the fast and clever Fighter with his Wolve-styl and Tenshinhan - the genius with the Kiko-canon. I liked it more in DB as in DBZ that here are more martialart-fights. Later there are only strong energieballs to make a win. And in DBZ the humans have only supporting parts. I like Tenshinhan and Yamchu. I like Piccolo and Vegeta, but in DB was the better story.

I liked how the fighters wouldn't fly, they would just jump really high for the most part. They fought hand-to-hand and only used Ki blast as a last resort. One of the problems of DBZ was during heated battles, the Ki blast always slowed things down. It takes a good minute before the dramatic effect of a blast is over. Then after every little slugfest, they stand and talk cause it seems every warrior in DBZ has an ego.
