What a classic from the 70's. This was one of my first clubbing tunes at Raquels in Basildon in Essex when i was a soul boy!. Brings back some memories of my wedge hair cut and pleated baggy trouses.Cheers Wayne from Wickford in Essex
I loved growing up during the the Brit Funk scene of the late 70's and early 80's with some great bands like i-level, Level 42, Incognito, Lynxx, Begger & Co, Freeez, Hi-Tension, Central Line, Imagination, Atmosphere, Light of the World, Gonzalez and so many others....
I danced to this at a holiday camp talent contest. Did my best robot moves and ended up coming third behind a little white girl singer and an old man singing my old mans a dustman, oh the good old days...
In May 1978 when I was 12, we went on a day trip to Holyhead from Dublin. It was my first time to the UK. This song song was playing on the radio and I remembered that it was very appropriate because I was going to the UK for the first time and therefore the "British Hustle " was to the fore of my thoughts. It was a great day trip, we had lots of fun. It was so good to listen to this song crossing over the irish sea on the ferry. The memories are cherised and so is this song. thanks so much
oh yessss! made my night, i wore out my bro's 12" copy of this, think it was on island, was about 10-11 mins long, bass didn't come in for about 3 or 4 minutes and the bass break went on for ages, small white kid in english countryside on the outskirts of the Reading west indian vibe, annoying the neighbours playing along to this with my hi-hat, snare & bass drum - love it, first time i ever saw this video was tonite - thanks!!!!!!! - anyone remember "Sine-Just Let me do my thing?"
Awesome track... 7 cats jammin with so much energy & it shows!!! The passion & love from the artist in the 70's & 80's stands miles above 2days artist. Talent... i bet they are all multi talented... can play more than 1 instrument.. can we say that for 2days artist.... i think we know the answer to that question!!!! Bring back the old school please...
Great tune .can't listen to this without moving my feet . the vocals sound so much like great liverpool band THE REAL THING. great early 80's energy funk,,,
Yep well said. Apart from being a great track this song was important culturally. Black British youth saying 'we're British too'. There was a wave of bands doing a similar thing around the late 70s/early 80s. Check out the Britfunk comp 'British Hustle' on Soul Jazz records.

Something similar to Hi-Tension?
For British funk try Beggar and Co 'Somebody Help Me Out and Freeez by Southern Freeez (yes, three Es!). Also give 'Amigo' by Black Slate a listen.

This was a good song, still got the vinyl somewhere..a Black band celebrating and promoting being British!...what ever happened to that idea?
