i have a friend in alaska who works on f-22s and says they are amazing but a bitch to maintain and take years to produce. these jets have an unimaginable amount of power and manueverabililty but is so restricted because the human body cannot take the punishment. this will probably be the last king of the sky until we go unmanned all together. the next generation of pilots wont be in the sky but in front of a screen.

why not, ill contribute. each plane has its ups and downs. btw the su-47 is a prototype and its not seen as a 'fighter', so it can't be compared. the f-22 has steath, speed, and good tech, but costs a lot. ITS NOT A FIGHTER THATS EASY TO PRODUCE... as cool as it looks, it shouldn't be attempted to masss produce this thing. the eurofighter isn't as good as the f-22 on paper apparently, but it costs way less and is easy enough to mass produce. ITS A WINNER. lets just make it like the f-15 now...
if we were to buy more Raptors, they would cost less, but we are ordering 187. The more you produce, the lower the per unit cost, and we are gonna keep that door open if we need to produce more.

I'll get a lot of thumbs down for this, but the F-22 is worthless for this time and economy. They're right that the F-22 is just wasteful spending, the F-35 costs way less and it can perform just as well (but CERTAINLY NOT better) as the F-22. The F-22 costs 351 million dollars for ONLY ONE plane. Why? The F-22 has a special coating on it that costs a boat load, and it's a pain in the ass to repair as well. Damage to this outer coat takes 3-5 days to repair, and it costs a lot.
8/8/2007 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Air Force officials here signed a production contract with Lockheed Martin Corp. to add 60 F-22 Raptors to the Air Force inventory by December 2011. The multiyear contract for the fifth-generation fighters will save the Air Force $411 million compared to a traditional annual procurement program of three separate, single-year contracts for 20 aircraft.

@ClaraMassa1 Familiar, yes! I'm from Serbia, so I whitnessed US bombing raids during NATO opreation Allied Force in 1999. Lot of sweet tech was here too (first combat use of B2 Spirit, extensive use of F117 stealth fighters, combat drones and so). Needles to say that effects of airstrikes were minor (our generals simply avoided fight whenever possible, and prepared for ground invasion, in which case terrain in most parts of Serbia would prevent use of heavy equippment or air suport).

I love the looks of this thing. I wonder how close we are to having completely autonomous fighters. This summer one flew from the U.S. to Australia and not under remote control. The funding cuts for current jets are in part due to increased funding in UCAV's and UAV's, which is where the future is.

@Aspartan3 simple point that by the time the PAK-FA become operational our Raptor will have a laser gun to replace the current cannon. Just to reminder to all Russian fan boys out there, F-22 was design back in the early 80s mean while Russian just catching up to our 80s tech and the year is 2011. If they somehow got a hold of one they would learn a lot. But they don't have the ability (yet) to produce such aircraft or more importantly it's many subsystems. soooo? mmmmmm are you really sure that merely paint textures and tones can affect a planes stealth characteristics? what about the SR-71? or the F-35 even the SU-37 rofl can take in signals.. but obviously ain't stealth enough, but wait! hold a second? if its paint job does some how absorb the radio signals, aint the pilot flying blind then? huh? makes no sense lol so there will be no radio contact with the pilot then? ridiculous!!!
The paint has to be that color because it makes seeing the plane more difficult for enemy pilots. They can make the radar absorbing paint colorful if they want to, but the F-22 deployment-ready paint job(s) are to minimize visual detection.

actually the paint is consisted of a modified type of carbon fiber that does help absorb radar signals and can boucne back the signals and scramble the radar. so im pretty sure u can call it stealth paint

i have a friend in alaska who works on f-22s and says they are amazing but a bitch to maintain and take years to produce. these jets have an unimaginable amount of power and manueverabililty but is so restricted because the human body cannot take the punishment. this will probably be the last king of the sky until we go unmanned all together. the next generation of pilots wont be in the sky but in front of a screen.

why not, ill contribute. each plane has its ups and downs. btw the su-47 is a prototype and its not seen as a 'fighter', so it can't be compared. the f-22 has steath, speed, and good tech, but costs a lot. ITS NOT A FIGHTER THATS EASY TO PRODUCE... as cool as it looks, it shouldn't be attempted to masss produce this thing. the eurofighter isn't as good as the f-22 on paper apparently, but it costs way less and is easy enough to mass produce. ITS A WINNER. lets just make it like the f-15 now...

I'll get a lot of thumbs down for this, but the F-22 is worthless for this time and economy. They're right that the F-22 is just wasteful spending, the F-35 costs way less and it can perform just as well (but CERTAINLY NOT better) as the F-22. The F-22 costs 351 million dollars for ONLY ONE plane. Why? The F-22 has a special coating on it that costs a boat load, and it's a pain in the ass to repair as well. Damage to this outer coat takes 3-5 days to repair, and it costs a lot.

@ClaraMassa1 Familiar, yes! I'm from Serbia, so I whitnessed US bombing raids during NATO opreation Allied Force in 1999. Lot of sweet tech was here too (first combat use of B2 Spirit, extensive use of F117 stealth fighters, combat drones and so). Needles to say that effects of airstrikes were minor (our generals simply avoided fight whenever possible, and prepared for ground invasion, in which case terrain in most parts of Serbia would prevent use of heavy equippment or air suport).

I love the looks of this thing. I wonder how close we are to having completely autonomous fighters. This summer one flew from the U.S. to Australia and not under remote control. The funding cuts for current jets are in part due to increased funding in UCAV's and UAV's, which is where the future is.

If the Russians can build a better plane than the Raptor with less experience and on a fraction of the budget, they must have some amazing scientists.....I'm surprised they haven't cured cancer yet.

If they somehow got a hold of one they would learn a lot. But they don't have the ability (yet) to produce such aircraft or more importantly it's many subsystems. I used to test certain parts of the Raptor and compared to similar parts in a comparable aircraft the specs were much more stringent. And rather hard to meet.........

The paint has to be that color because it makes seeing the plane more difficult for enemy pilots. They can make the radar absorbing paint colorful if they want to, but the F-22 deployment-ready paint job(s) are to minimize visual detection.

actually the paint is consisted of a modified type of carbon fiber that does help absorb radar signals and can boucne back the signals and scramble the radar. so im pretty sure u can call it stealth paint

A myth... your supremacy is a myth. Your democracy is a myth. 90% of your people think you fight for freedom which is a total bullshit...And about the space program... Each significant invention in your history is either stolen or invented by Europeans immigrated US. May be that's why you don't study much history, because you don't have one, except the civil wars.
