  • classic beauty

  • the woman in the opening of the clip reminds me of a young Ruth Buzzy

  • Every girls fantasy I betcha!

  • it's sort of surreal, dreamlike

  • @oYoYebutu It's funny I don't see that. What I saw was a shy frightened girl at the top of the stairs a little transfixed by the prince below who seems to be giving her confidence to come down. It's funny what a difference in perspective can make.

  • the queen looks like a very young betty white!!!! lol

  • How nice.

  • is this the first cinderella movie?

  • I have had this song stuck in ny head for like a whole week!!!

  • I see mary poppins all over, more than any other roles she has played...

  • That's Jon Cypher playing Prince Christopher. He played Man at Arms in 1987's "Masters of the Universe".

  • I love how the woman is trying to stand on her tip toes to get the Prince's attention. It's amusing.

  • cool

  • kay ballard looks like Niecy Nash.

  • Does anyone know what key Julie is singing this in?

  • @AslansButterfly the key of annoying

  • @BernardProfitendieu

I don't think you appreciate what good singing is if you think that's annoying.

  • @AslansButterfly sing it with me: do we hate her because she's annoying, or is she annoying because we hate her?

  • how old is julie andrews shes been around for a while

  • She's 74, will be 75 in October :)

  • @MayaLoveJulie She still has bueaty talent and class and a true ledgend. I mean you look at all she is done you can try and pick one thing that you love that she has done but then you are like but I love this and this and this too just as much if not more. She is a true master of the art and has a beautiful voice.

  • @MayaLoveJulie that's disbelieving since she is ever so refined!

  • @mastermp1995 Updating she is 76 on the first of october :D lol

  • someone pointed out to me that by the time julie andrews gets to sing, it's more like "fifteen minutes ago" ;)

  • I loved Julie Andrews, she such a sweet lady and love her smiles as well. Everytime, I see her wide roles she made in her movies in Sounds of Music and victor and Victorica ,etc but still think of her as Mary Poppins and will always think of her as mary poppins for the rest of my life cuz she 's like Mary Poppins ! Glad she won an Oscar for her role as Mary Poppins. Wish her well .

  • Julie Andrews is so pretty

  • Looks like Julie bagged herself a prince :-) Egad! He was hooked from the first moment he laid eyes on her! I'd love to witness a moment like that myself, if such occur in real life...

  • @clandestineone Moments like those are real. You encounter them with the man of your dreams. I have with mine, though he noticed first =^-^=

  • Julie is such a beauty!

  • Maybe my intelliegence is stunted but i never knew Julie Andrews was cinderella. thank you.

  • 1:54, GREAT answer. :)

  • 3:20

  • This is my diva. I love myself some Julie Andrews

  • wow, this brings back memories! i was in this musical about four years ago. : ) love it!!!

  • Oh I love Cinderella! I've got the DVD as well, even though it's quite hard to get here in germany...but it really was worth searching it, it's so great!! Everytime I watch this film I sit there grinnig and beaming because it's so wonderful!! =)

  • She looks goodas a brunette, too. <3

  • "In the arms of my love I'm flying

All the mountain and meadow and glen

And I like it so well that

For all I can may never come down again"

    How lovely these verses are!

  • As a fan of Julie Andrews', I am delighted to see this clip. Thanks for uploading this and making us share the treasure with each other. Despite the fact that she is unable to sing any longer due to the tragic surgery, Julie will remain one of the Broadway musical queens!

  • Julie makes a beautiful Cinderella! Can't believe this was in the late 50s.

  • 2:32

  • 2:31

  • I Love hearing her sing 10 min ago!! i think her version is the best!

  • I've never seen this version before! I've looked for it everywhere on DVD! Thanks for sharing! Love Julie Andrews!

  • I love this video! I am playing Cinderella in a play and this gives me inspiration.

  • how old was Julie here?

  • She was 21 going on 22 :)

  • HA.

  • @Tripp393

    16 going on 17....wait, that's not right.

  • Julie has a great voice but she doesn't play being in love very well. Not enough yearning, too many smiles.

  • I love Julie but you're right, she is too smiley in parts. She did a lot better in Sound of Music.

  • She was a much younger actress then, guys!

  • Thats a very good point! She was less experienced and all that. She still sang beautifully and is one of the greatest actresses of the last century.

  • Agreed! :)

  • Lovely, as always. I have the soundtrack to this.

  • theres just something about the way julie andrews says "10 minutes ago" lol. she just makes it sound prettier than it is.

  • Cool I forgot this existed. The Queenmother is familiar!

  • Is she the good witch from Wizard of Oz?

  • Julie is my idol, I love her so much

  • ya she is my idol and i luv her 2! she is really pretty 2! she looks really young 2day as well!

  • thats because she's Julie Andrews my dear ;)

  • What a beautiful Cinderella she makes :)

  • To where!? LoL Julie Andrews has a memorable walk

  • Why didn't she star in the movie version?

  • This was the original television version. By the time the next one was made, it was over a decade later... and I think they wanted a "fresher" younger face for a late 60s audience.

  • Julie Andrews is Mah Bitch!

  • Julie Andrews is great in everything she does... i luv her voice. it is soooo sad tht she can't sing anymore or very little of i should say... i loved her in My fair lady, Mary Poppins and Sound of Music...

  • audrey hepburn was on my fair lady.

  • ik Audrey Hepburn was in my fair lady..

  • But Julia was Eliza on Broadway.

  • And Julia could sing it. Audrey Hepburn had a voice over.

  • @PrincessPea13 You saw her in the boardway production of My Fair Lady? You lucky duck.

  • @PrincessPea13 the sound of music is my favoret!

  • LOVE Howard Lindsay and Dorothy Stickney. Greatest Broadway couple ever.

And much, much love for Julie!!

  • I love Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. I think she was great in both, but I like the version of Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren better. Maybe because I grew up watching it. Just my opinion. ;)

  • goosebumps! Julie Andrews is my hero!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • Ten Minutes Ago

  • he has a beautiful voice

  • I watched a Cinderella play in Manila, October 2008, with Lea Salonga in the lead, I don't know why I seem to know the lines of the songs. Now I remember, I saw this movie when I was a kid (the time when betamax was in).

  • Leslie Ann and Stuart are the true Cinderella story to me, my favorites. Julie Andrews is Maria, no one else but her could be Maria.

  • Every Cinderella adaptation is wonderful, each with its own special quality and interpretation... even Cinderfella. :-)

  • This version and Lesley Warren's version have their own good qualities, but I liked the presentation of the Brandy version much better. You felt as if you were there at the ball and all the grandeur that would go with it!

  • This musical has been remade again and again over decades. But the original version with Julie Andrews is the most wonderful one.

  • This we see is a woman who has come to get the prince. Not the Cinderella we'd expect, young and innocent and humble. A strange director's vision.

Julie Andrews, too, had something about her - derived especially from the knowledge of her having a voice like that - that would generally make her look slightly arrogant/superior.

This was, rather, a part written for - the likes of (if I can really put it like that...) - Audrey Hepburn.

  • Well, actually Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote this part especially for Julie. so I believe they thought she was good for it.

  • I couldn't think of a better singer myself.

  • @MayaLoveJulie

I adore JA, but I have to agree she seems strangely haughty in that shot from the top of the stairs. Probably an unfortunate angle, filming her from below.

  • @oYoYebutu Julie Andrews, like Mary Martin, Shirley Jones, Mitzi Gaynor and Deborah Kerr, was exactly the kind of performer they loved doing their works, and as been said the part of Cinderella and her songs were composed especially for Julie by Rodgers & Hammerstein, she worked with them on this and they were both extremely fond of her.

  • @steph42uk Well, much as I like Ms Andrews...

  • @oYoYebutu "This we see is a woman who has come to get the prince..." Which is great! What a cool take on the story--who knows, maybe this how the old folktale had Cinderella behaving when she meets the prince at the ball: with the clothes and carriage came a new found confidence.

Too bad other productions didn't interpret her this way--putting more complexity in the story for all the little girls who imagined themselves to be like Cinderella.

  • @oYoYebutu Besides, Audrey Hepburn couldn't sing.

  • @EnchantedSilence Funny!

  • @oYoYebutu but audrey hepburn can't sing...

  • how old was julie when this was filmed

  • It was filmed in 1957, so Julie was 21 or 22 =]

  • This was done during a break after the long, successful run of "My Fair Lady." No rest for poor Julie, because right after, she went right into rehearsals for "Camelot." She was newlywed to Tony Walton at this point.

  • As I understand it Sally Ann Howes was Julie's broadway replacement and she didn't start until Feb 1958,Rex left the broadway version in Dec 57, so it's possible Julie left around that time too and they with Stanley Holloway went to London for the West End production of My Fair Lady which opened April 29th 1958, Julie started on Camelot after her West End run.

  • @flagler88 Yes and it was Walt Disney who saw her in Camelot on Broadway and asked her to star in his film of 'Mary Poppins' so began her film career.

  • I love this version - purely because it's the frist adn the whole set was liable to fall n show the people - they were all so wirred about it lol x XD x

  • the other step sister is the late Alice Ghostly ................. I saw Kaye Ballard 2 years in a stand up routine and she is still funny ............

  • did you know they filmed this in one night...

it was quite a feat :O)

  • Yes, they filmed it on live television. It wasn't pre-recorded.

  • It wasn't filmed. It was presented live from beginning to end.

    Even more remarkable!

  • That's Kaye Ballard, one of the stepsisters. They re-did this in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren, and, being only 10, I had no idea it had been done on TV before!

  • julie andrews is so beautiful!

  • @Minyadagniriel I wish I were as lovely and adored as Julie!

  • i like his voice. something about it is soothing...

  • ahh Julie Andrews is the woman of my life

  • i love this <3!

    Thank you for uploading!

  • I may be wayyyyy off but isn't the queen the same actress who played Glinda in the Wizard of Oz?

  • researced on imdb her name is Dororthy Stickney... Billie Burke was Glinda in WoO

    :)

  • Man, she is WORKING that dress.

  • I can't identify the Prince/King/Queen, but the stepsisters are Alice Ghostley and Kaye Ballard. The immortal Agnes Moorehead is the stepmother. Brilliant casting! I've yet to see the entire '57 production.

  • This guy was Juan Peron in Evita.

  • the stepmother is ilka chase. not agnes moorehead.

  • I watched this yesterday ONCE and had the tune stuck in my head all day today!!

  • Too bad this isn't in color. I guess we'll never get to see the original color version. :(

  • it was really in black and white.

  • Nope, it was originally shown live in color. Unfortunately, the only surviving copy is the black and white kinescope.

  • Really? Coz the show I saw on TV + video clips I've seen for Julie Andrews, it's in B&W.

  • Yes, it definitely was originally broadcast live in color. Unfortunately, it was only recorded in black and white kinescope and that's all we have now. But when the first audiences saw it when it aired, they watched a beautiful color version!

  • I doubt most people had a color tv back then, and I think it was only live on the east coast, which is why they had to do a kinescope so they could air it everywhere else. They didn't have the power to broadcast live across the country back then. So only a handful of people would have seen this in color.

  • It wasn't just live on the east coast--it was live and in color in three of the four time zones: Eastern, Central and Mountain. Only on the west coast was it broadcast solely in black and white. There were about 300,000 color television sets in U.S. households at that point; not a majority, by any means, but, knowing how few channels there were and how multiple viewers were in front of most sets every evening, it's a safe bet to say that probably 200,000 or so people saw this in color.

  • Julie Andrews took my breath away. So beautiful and talented.

  • The prince was the chief on Hill Street Blues for 6 years and on Major Dad, he was the Gen. Craig.

  • it's james p. sikking.

  • no. no. no. wait, it's jon cypher. not sikking.

  • no. i have to correct myself. it's jon cypher.

  • what is the name of this song? I have heard it in a more recent movie I believe.

  • The name of the song is "Ten Minutes Ago" by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

  • i didn't like it! The directing is 30's style... oh! i forgot... id not wonder why...

  • No offense, but it's not like the prince is so handsome.......

  • i agree but times hav changed and he was probably very handsom to women back in the 50's

and he has a good voice

  • it was probably the voice that did it.

  • do you man handsome or sexy? people get the definitions mixed up nowadays. He's not bad to look at, and handsome really just means "nice to look at".

  • wow thank you for this happy new year to you :)

  • Who is the guy playing the Prince? I like his acting much, very unaffected and natural.

  • Jon Cypher

  • She is not just a 'female'.

Julie Andrews is one of the most wonderful specimen of the human kind.

  • She is better than all the others - by far.

  • gosh, she rox! it is a shame that she didnt get chosen 4 the film version, but if ur a JA fanatic lyke me ull know that if she did, there would be no best actress and mary poppins! =)

  • julie is probobly one of the most beautifull females in the world!!!

  • I would say that Julia Andrews is most beautiful woman in the world. :)

    P.S.

I'm wondering when British and Americans will discover the difference between female and woman. :)

  • Love her voice.

  • Haha Maya, you sound like an expert.. :D Which you kinda are actually :D I love you, ever told you that ? haha .. BTW, I think I have seen that woman playing Cinderella somewhere?? ;)

  • Oh really? I think I have seen her too. not sure where ;P

  • This is the same Rodgers & Hammerstein version as was done for TV which did indeed star Leslie Ann Warren.

  • Andrews will always be the greatest Cinderella...the word charm personified.

  • Julie Andrews is better than Lesley Ann Warren!

  • Ok, i need a little help...i love this Cinderella, but there is one that i saw when i was little and I can't remember if this is is...the one scene i remember was at the very beginning and Cinderella gave the prince a drink from the well. Thats how they met. If this is it will someone please tell me? Thanx. This is awsome btw.

  • Hi. I think you are referring to a subsequent televised version of Cinderella, starring Lesley Ann Warren - not Julie Andrews.

  • Amazing indeed and lovely as always!

  • thanx heapz =) sigh....

  • omg im 13 and totally addicted 2 her!! Maya, were can you buy this on dvd?

  • Hello! I can help you get this if you want =]

as you can see.. I'm totally addicted to her too <3

just send me a personal message and I'll help you

  • Soooooooo much better than the 1990's Brandi version.

  • The dvd of this broadcast is available, even on Netflix. Just added it to my queue.

  • Yh Please can you put more of this on here, i really want to see more of Julie in Cinderella!!!

  • awe! Julie Andews is the BEST! None can out sing her!

  • okey thanks =)

  • 1957 i thought Mary Poppins was her first movie (it was 1964)

  • Yes you'r right, Mary Poppins was the first film.

Cinderella was a live television production.

  • Yeah, she took a week or two off from doing My Fair Lady, filmed this live, then went back to broadway.

  • this lady is just to classy, elegant and talent as always

  • Ok, here's why I like this version the best. First it was in '57, done live, no retakes. The actors/

actresses had it real tough, 'cause if you flubbed a line it was seen by, in this case, 107 million folks. Same goes for the orchestra, camera & sound people.

  • WOW Julie andrews is sooo amazing!!!! I love her so much she is sooo talented!!! I hope you could post more clips of this I'm dying to watch it!!! Thanks again for the upload!

  • Your welcome everyone! I'll try to post more soon :)
