I would like to give credit to the fact that the father is not blaming anyone. Most people today would be running full speed to the park with lawyers trying to get millions of dollars claiming the park didn't do enough to prevent the kid from going over. Could easily have been avoided. The kid could have asked a ride attendant to stop the ride so the hat could be retrieed, or he simply could have left it off in the station and retrieve it after the ride. But because of some stupid mistakes, someone got killed.

Could easily have been avoided. The kid could have asked a ride attendant to stop the ride so the hat could be retrieed, or he simply could have left it off in the station and retrieve it after the ride. But because of some stupid mistakes, someone got killed.

Not to be overly morbid, but it's safe to assume that it was the front part of the coaster that decapitated him, as it whisked by. I can't imagine the image burned in the minds of the people that were in the front car of that ride :(

I know it's unlikely, but perhaps that hat was a gift? Maybe the kid was from a family that didn't have much and that hat meant as much to him as some peoples computer or Xbox360 or PS3. Believe it or not, things are not always so black and white. There was a time when people would actually show some form of sympathy with a 'tragic accident' took a young persons life. He could have been the next Barack Obama, Michael Jordan or Sam Cooke.
