This video is so, So, SO, SOOOO encouraging. I'm telling everybody I see about it. It seems such a trifle to others to blow a horn at an ancient piece of wall, but the way that man when he's telling about coming back to Jerusalem as a soldier "let's go to the Kotel". I mean, it's the only thing left from the time 2000 years ago, the temple, and it's still THERE and so are the Jewish people. And it's because of many, many seemingly "trifles" that they are.
Let's read some posts on NakedBison's Youtube Site: - "So, I see you're still going on videos related to politics, and twisting the words of those who don't believe the same as you, huh? I am very sorry that there are people who are cluttering up this wonderful and important piece of our history with hatred and distorted arguments. The group is very respectful of other traditions and they pray in a very low profile until the ultra-orthodox hoodlums start calling them Nazis and throwing chairs at them (from the men's side of course). Unfortunately, compromise does work in two directions.
gtamir613 the ultra-secular Leftist hoodlum has no respect for traditional Orthodox Jews, calling them nazis and throwing chairs at them (from Obama's henchmen, of course). unfortunately, secular Leftist obamaniacs lke gTamir613 is not willing to compromise. this concludes gTamir's extreme intolerance against his own Jewish people, for the day

@nakedBison69 Same ole same ole - still don't know why this person is so obsessed with Obama though - pretty weird. I mean, what does Obama have to do with Women being arrested at the Kotel for praying? To the un-initiated out there, this is the kind of mentality we have to deal with here in Israel. It is a shame what sometimes happens to religion - we see it in Islam with Taliban and in Judaism too. Hard to be sympathetic but one has to if only to pity those who hide in their darkness...
gtamir613 is so obsessed with hating religious Jews. pretty weird. i mean, does gtamir have nothing better to do with his time than to hate religious Jews? and why does gtamir insist on spreading lies about women not being allowed to pray at the Kotel, does he admire Joseph Goebels? to the uninitiated out there, this is the kind of intolerance that Torah Jews have to deal with in Israel. gtamir613 wants to force Orthodox Jews to follow his ultra-Leftist rules, not allowing them to pray in their own tradition if that tradition includes following Torah law
@nakedBison69 I want to what? First or all, I am an Israeli and thousands of other Israelis - many sabras - have the same traditions. Second, why would I want Orthodox Jews to do what I do? My argument is that all Jews should be able to practice their traditions and that in a place like the Kotel which is NOT an Orthodox synagogue but a courtyard outside the walls of the Temple that is holy to ALL Jews, EVERYONE should respect each other's traditions - even ultra-right ones.
gtamir613 wants the Kotel to be the headquarters for gay homo men like him and for women to gett abortions. gTamir the ultra-leftist is at war with G-d and His Torah. gtamir has no respect whatsoever for G-d's Torah
The government of Israel has placed one person - in this case an Ultra-Orthodox rabbi - in control over the Kotel, which is a public space for Jews all over the World and in Israel. It is not nor has it ever been a private synagogue.
Let me try again to explain what civil rights are. In America - and hopefully someday in Israel - one has the right to practice one's religion without government interference. This is enshrined in the Constitution (hence it's a civil right) which America has and hopefully someday, so too will Israel.
@nakedBison69 So go live in Borough Park or Monsey if you want to create another shtetle. Israel has no need for this. Israel is a democracy where freedom of religion is respected and should be guaranteed. People who do not show respect to the traditions of others do not deserve respect. Respect, unlike civil or religious rights and freedoms must be earned.
gtamir613 needs to go live in North Korea if he wants another socialist obamanic ghetto. Israel has no need for gTamir, who has no respect for G-d's Torah. gTamir deserves no respect. gtamir has earned every decent person's contempt
to Nakedbison69 - not insulting Orthodox Judaism but criticizing religious coercion and promoting civil rights and freedom of religion. Also pointing out the irony that at the same place separated by 60 years, people are arrested for religious expression - it is that simple but I guess Bison don't inderstand that.
this has absolutely nothing to do with coercion or civil rights. women have just as much access to the Western Wall as do men. gtamir refuses to understand that
very important film. This is our situation without our land.British antisemite do not change. That proofs that the right thing to do is to be a proud jew in his country without any foreign mandate.
When you say "you can daven at the kotel" I assume you mean that men can daven at the kotel. Women have to remain behind a separation wall and there is a limit to what they can do.
Example:they can be arrested for carrying a Torah,
actually, women have just as much access to the western wall as do men. then again, i would not want to confuse a shitler-loving antisemite like francine1836 with the facts
@nakedBison69 I wish you were correct. Go there on a rosh hodesh and watch them harass women who want to pray in their tradition - one shared by 85% of World's practicing Jews.
you are not being honest here. what is not being allowed is fake Judaism posing as authentic Judaism. non-orthodox versions of Judaism is simply NOT Judaism
@nakedBison69 Whose not being honest? Who is being arrogant? Self-righteous? To call the way 85-per-cent of the World's pray not Judaism? Women of the Wall are brave Jewish women who have only the highest regard for Jewish Law and practice - none of which is being broken here. God will bless them and curse those who disparage them.
gtamir613 the dishonest, arrogant, self-righteous ignoramous knows nothing about Torah-true Judaism. gTamir613 has no regard for Jewish law and practice, all of which would be broken here by him. G-d blesses Torah Jews and curses gTamir613
@nakedBison69 If Conservative Judaism - which is based on Halacha - is NOT Judaism - then what is it? More precisely, what about it is NOT Judaism? Because women are allowed to take on the time-bound mitzvot? FYI, women are not "obligated" to but there is nothing that prevents them. You obviously have a lot to learn about Masorti Traditions which is understandable.
gtamir613 and his Leftist Judaism is a complete and total fraud. more precisely, it is NOT Judaism. putting "obligated" in "quotes" adds absolutely "nothing" to gTamir's "arguments" or lack of them. nothing prevents gTamir from turning against G-d's Torah. gTamir obviously has a lot to learn, as he understands nothing
Wow, we’ve certainly come a long way! Back then, it was the British occupation that prevented us from exercising our religious rights at the Kotel. Now we have a Jewish government that prevents Jewish women from sounding the Shofar, carrying a Torah and reading aloud from the Torah at the Kotel. Once it was British tyranny that Zionism and the Yishuv needed to overcome. Now it’s the tyranny of the ultra-Orthodox and their camp-followers. Progress indeed!
rlcohen36 uses any opportunity he can to put down those who carefully follow Jewish law that can trace itself all the way back to Moses on Mount Sinai
@rlcohen36 Your arguments are out of proportion and show a lack of historical and religious perspective. How dare you compare the rules of rabbis and the Israeli government to the prohibitions enforced by the nonhumanitarian Moslem rulers of the Temple Mount, who would argue that you have no religious or historical connection to the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and all of Israel.
Progress has nothing to do with the Kotel and the Temple Mount. History and tradition is everything.
British hypocrites preach Israel about morals, freedom, occupaiton, but we now see that only 60 years ago, when they occupied in brutality other nations, they didn't even allow them to have freedom of religion!!!
it is a shame that gtamir613 has gotten to the point where he cannot stop himself from using any excuse he can to insult traditional, Orthodox Judaism
@nakedBison69 not insulting Orthodox Judaism but criticizing religious coercion and promoting civil rights and freedom of religion. Also pointing out the irony that at the same place separated by 60 years, people are arrested for religious expression - it is that simple.

What a wonderful story! I hope I find many more to help celebrate Yom Kippur especially because it also falls on my birthday this year. Despite the fact I am a Christian I feel especially blessed learning the roots of my wonderful, positive religion. Jews have such a wonderful heritage and of course are proud of it. It shines in the eyes of these men.
Beautiful film. I have often contemplated the historic torrent of anti-Israel speech and acts that have emanated from Britain and I think I finally figured it out: Other than the United States in 1776, I believe that the Jews of Palestine are the only former British possession to forcibly kick the British out. All of their other colonies, I believe, gained their independence when it was willingly granted by Britain. The Israelis booted them into the sea - sour grapes. G'mar Chatima Tova to all.
@eSpectionportal The War of Independence of the 13 colonies comes to mind. Those colonies who declared their independence from Britain against the will of the Empire are still Israel's most powerful allies, Obama and Mrs. Clinton notwithstanding.
India, too, was a thorn in the side of the empire, and the Islamic area that became Pakistan is still a hotbed of trouble, similar to the Arabs fomenting trouble for Israel.
Thank you so much for posting this video. Watching this naturally brought tears to my eyes, yet gave me much needed laughter even more. What a fantastic video. What heroes these people are. I sit here in complete awe of them. As long as we have such courageous people among us Jews, all the antisemitism in the world can never truly defeat us.
A moving video. Now, if only we had complete religious freedom at the Kotel in our own time: just as these young men risked arrest to give voice to their religious longings in the blowing of the shofar, so do the Women of the Wall risk arrest to assert their right to pray at the Kotel. Just as the British forbid the shofar blowing to appease those against a Jewish presence in Jerusalem, some women are prevented from reading Torah and singing - to appease one sect of Jews.
that is such complete and total nonsense. women have just as much access to the Western Wall as do men. stop finding pathetic excuses to attack my Jewish people
@YardleyFiske Your comment is ridiculous and shows a lack of knowledge of both Jews and Nazis. Plus, you don't even understand what discrimination means.
@YardleyFiske Your ignorance is showing. You don't even know the meaning of the words "discriminate" and "Nazi." The Ultra Orthodox were killed by Nazi guns and killed in concentration camps. What special treatment do the Ultra Orthodox get today?
Many of the men do not serve in the Israeli forces, because they get exemptions. Otherwise, the Ultra Orthodox , mostly poor folk, live in their private communities with rules that no one else has to follow.
@kaystreetgirl There is no comparison and no relation between the prohibitions of the British or the Moslem rulers of the Temple Mount , to the halachic rulings of the rabbis in charge of the Kotel. You can still daven at the Kotel. You cannot daven on the Temple Mount.
It's my honor to have watched this video and learned of this history. Everybody who blows or hears the Shofar, in freedom and peace, owes a debt of gratitude to these men who risked their freedom (and worse) to carry on our holy traditions. Everybody who blows the shofar for a congregation, anywhere, stands with these men as brothers, and should consider themselves privileged. I know that I do.
Now @NPCindy & others: In college, I spent a year on kibbutz on a hilltop near Jerusalem. Below us was a friendly Arab village, Abu Ghosh. Look them up. They aided Israel in the War of Independence. Every evening, their music wafted up the hill, filling our hearts. They even invited us to a wedding. They were beautiful people & to this day, the sound of Arab music & prayer brings back sweet memories. Good & Evil exist in every religion & culture. Don't be so quick to judge. (PS - I am Jewish.)
Very moving video. I didn't realize that this had gone on. We are so fortunate to have been able to hear the story of these men while they are still alive to share it with us. I'm so happy that they had the chance to go back to the Kotel together to blow the shofar again.
@lakeeriejew According to their Hebrew accents, these particular interviewees were not from Eastern Europe for the most part, if at all. There were thousands of European Jews who were equally brave. Please do not blame the victims of the cruel gun-toting Nazis for the systematic, legalized murder of European Jews.
@renayitz Don't forget the middle eastern Jews as well. They have been a central part of Israel. Until 1990, 70% of Israeli Jews were Sephardic (middle eastern) Jews. Jews from Syria. Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Yemen etc.
@ForgottenEasternJews Read my comment again. I wrote that the interviewees were not European. What does that mean, then? It means that they were from Sephardic tradition. By the same token, it is ridiculous to say that European Jews had some disease of imagined victimhood, as lakeeriejew implied. They were powerless against the very real Nazi machine and the cultural anti-semitism of the World War II era.
@renayitz No you said the interviewees were not "Eastern European". I don't believe that European Jews had the "victimhood" approach. They were as brave as the Sephardic Jews. My point is, most of the time it's about ashkanazi jews. I understand that 80% of jews are ashkanazi. But hey, during 1100 AD 97% of Jews were Sephardic. Mid 1700s, Sephardic Jews were about 70% of total world jewish population. Now they are about 20%. Due to bad living condition in muslim world.
@renayitz I'm a Sephardic Jew and I live in mid US. People don't believe that I'm a Jew when I say to them. There are no Sephardic shuls except east and west coasts. I go to an ashkanazi shul. Here, the image of a "Jew" is white and/or blonde. It's a fact.
@ForgottenEasternJews Althoug, I must say, were scattered among the nations for generations, thus that is what has become of the Jews, but I know there are Sephardic Jews
They either originated from Eastern Europe or from Arab lands. These interviews are taking place 60 years after those events so their accents are not a good indicator of their origin.
The point simply as that they had a mindset of "Liberation, freedom self- assertion". Mentally, they refused to submit to the anti-Semitic occupying force. It's the mindset of the Irgun that successfully drove the British out by striking back at them with the same aggression that the British dealt them
wonderful. it would be better to build a Synagogue in NYC and blow the shofar daily than to listen to the screeching five times a day from a call to worship on an Islam call to pray.
As far as i understand it, you were not allowed to blow the shofar because it could escalate a kind of conflict or simply create it. But it sounds totally weird and wrong in every way you arent allowed to act the way you want in your own country. Im very happy the Israel people have the power today. Best wishes forever.
When you hear the shofar this year take a moment to reflect what it was like to live at a time when such a simple Jewish action could not be taken for granted.
And if you think I am talking about way-back-when somewhere "Beyond the Pale" let me remind you that blowing the shofar in our own homeland, the Land of Israel, was for many years forbidden.
Next time you think that Israel should be prepared to "make painful concessions for peace" just remember what it was like when those "partners for peace" were in charge! From 1948 to 1967 the holiest place for Jews did not reverberate to the sound of the shofar at the culmination of Yom Kippur.
What an incredible story. Wow! The most inspiring I've seen in a very long time. May we be blessed with the shofar blowing that heralds the Messiah with our rebuilt Temple.
Incredible!!!

Israel is NOT the 51st state of the United States
nakedBison69 1 year ago

When you say "you can daven at the kotel" I assume you mean that men can daven at the kotel. Women have to remain behind a separation wall and there is a limit to what they can do.
Example:they can be arrested for carrying a Torah,
francine1836 1 year ago
actually, women have just as much access to the western wall as do men. then again, i would not want to confuse a shitler-loving antisemite like francine1836 with the facts
nakedBison69 1 year ago
@nakedBison69 I wish you were correct. Go there on a rosh hodesh and watch them harass women who want to pray in their tradition - one shared by 85% of World's practicing Jews.
gtamir613 1 year ago
you are not being honest here. what is not being allowed is fake Judaism posing as authentic Judaism. non-orthodox versions of Judaism is simply NOT Judaism
nakedBison69 1 year ago
@nakedBison69 Whose not being honest? Who is being arrogant? Self-righteous? To call the way 85-per-cent of the World's pray not Judaism? Women of the Wall are brave Jewish women who have only the highest regard for Jewish Law and practice - none of which is being broken here. God will bless them and curse those who disparage them.
gtamir613 1 year ago
gtamir613 the dishonest, arrogant, self-righteous ignoramous knows nothing about Torah-true Judaism. gTamir613 has no regard for Jewish law and practice, all of which would be broken here by him. G-d blesses Torah Jews and curses gTamir613
nakedBison69 1 year ago
@nakedBison69 If Conservative Judaism - which is based on Halacha - is NOT Judaism - then what is it? More precisely, what about it is NOT Judaism? Because women are allowed to take on the time-bound mitzvot? FYI, women are not "obligated" to but there is nothing that prevents them. You obviously have a lot to learn about Masorti Traditions which is understandable.
gtamir613 1 year ago
gtamir613 and his Leftist Judaism is a complete and total fraud. more precisely, it is NOT Judaism. putting "obligated" in "quotes" adds absolutely "nothing" to gTamir's "arguments" or lack of them. nothing prevents gTamir from turning against G-d's Torah. gTamir obviously has a lot to learn, as he understands nothing

Bravo Shofar trumpeters!

Progress indeed!
rlcohen36 1 year ago
rlcohen36 uses any opportunity he can to put down those who carefully follow Jewish law that can trace itself all the way back to Moses on Mount Sinai
nakedBison69 1 year ago
@rlcohen36 Your arguments are out of proportion and show a lack of historical and religious perspective. How dare you compare the rules of rabbis and the Israeli government to the prohibitions enforced by the nonhumanitarian Moslem rulers of the Temple Mount, who would argue that you have no religious or historical connection to the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and all of Israel.
Progress has nothing to do with the Kotel and the Temple Mount. History and tradition is everything.

G'mar Chatima Tova to all.
eSpectionportal 1 year ago 2
@eSpectionportal The War of Independence of the 13 colonies comes to mind. Those colonies who declared their independence from Britain against the will of the Empire are still Israel's most powerful allies, Obama and Mrs. Clinton notwithstanding.
India, too, was a thorn in the side of the empire, and the Islamic area that became Pakistan is still a hotbed of trouble, similar to the Arabs fomenting trouble for Israel.

(PS - I am Jewish.)

renayitz 1 year ago
@lakeeriejew According to their Hebrew accents, these particular interviewees were not from Eastern Europe for the most part, if at all. There were thousands of European Jews who were equally brave. Please do not blame the victims of the cruel gun-toting Nazis for the systematic, legalized murder of European Jews.
renayitz 1 year ago
@renayitz Don't forget the middle eastern Jews as well. They have been a central part of Israel. Until 1990, 70% of Israeli Jews were Sephardic (middle eastern) Jews. Jews from Syria. Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Yemen etc.
But unfortunately, they are least talked about.
ForgottenEasternJews 1 year ago
@ForgottenEasternJews Read my comment again. I wrote that the interviewees were not European. What does that mean, then? It means that they were from Sephardic tradition. By the same token, it is ridiculous to say that European Jews had some disease of imagined victimhood, as lakeeriejew implied. They were powerless against the very real Nazi machine and the cultural anti-semitism of the World War II era.
renayitz 1 year ago
@renayitz No you said the interviewees were not "Eastern European". I don't believe that European Jews had the "victimhood" approach. They were as brave as the Sephardic Jews. My point is, most of the time it's about ashkanazi jews. I understand that 80% of jews are ashkanazi. But hey, during 1100 AD 97% of Jews were Sephardic. Mid 1700s, Sephardic Jews were about 70% of total world jewish population. Now they are about 20%. Due to bad living condition in muslim world.
ForgottenEasternJews 1 year ago
@renayitz I'm a Sephardic Jew and I live in mid US. People don't believe that I'm a Jew when I say to them. There are no Sephardic shuls except east and west coasts. I go to an ashkanazi shul. Here, the image of a "Jew" is white and/or blonde. It's a fact.
ForgottenEasternJews 1 year ago
@ForgottenEasternJews Now we know that the Jews were from the middle east, desert middle east, not europe east
willy92507 1 year ago
@ForgottenEasternJews Althoug, I must say, were scattered among the nations for generations, thus that is what has become of the Jews, but I know there are Sephardic Jews
willy92507 1 year ago
@renayitz
