  • why arent you using a hiwatt cab?

  • Hey, great sound, perfectly Gilmourised guitar - it gives the atmosphere the best Pink Floyd's album ever :) Did you put anything before the guitar and the amp?

  • Really nice but you should have included the beginning riff.

  • I have a 1973 Hiwatt DR103 all original looks brand new! Also have a 1973 matching cab with original fanes!

email me at alexander_imaging@live.co.uk if interested :)

  • love it ,greetings from holland

  • Hiwatt HG, the failed Hiwatts !

  • i rather enjoyed that JAM. Good tone also

  • Passion, great playing, and great tone!!!

  • awesome playing dude nuff said

  • Awesome job ,both tone and playing. - i miss my old Custom 100 head.

  • I've always loved the HIWATT tone and sound and Gilmore has always got all of that tone out of them as well. Wish that I owned one but my talent isn't where it needs to be to spend that kinda cash. For now, I guess I'll have to stick with the Fender Deluxe Reverb and the Mesa LoneStar Special. Great tone and skills man, Rock On!

    Peace

  • @kodiakchazz Hey, those are nice rigs! They can achieve a great sound of their own! How do you like the Lonestar??

  • @Clyde67 Love it! Nice dirty tone on one channel and cleans up well (not Fender clean) on the other. I prefer a clean amp and use pedals to shape the sound. I have several overdrive and distortion pedals that lets me go just about anywhere.

  • @kodiakchazz There are people who'd kill for one of those amps.

  • @garlanuss Indeed!

  • Very cool! Sounds awesome!

  • @arjaya Thanks a lot!!!

  • Ha at 1:50!!! I do that with my amp too!!!

  • great sound.

  • @maico125 Thanks much!

  • awesome tone...saved in my favourites!!! cheers

  • @BiaginiAlessandro Hey, thanks so much!

  • amazing sound !

  • @frvnn Thank you!

  • I play an Orange 50 Watt Rockerverb and this one sounds also so nice - what a big number of tones - Uwe Guitar Player South Germany _ I greet the Who who played Hiwatt - but where can I buy that stuff now?

  • @uwemusic Not really sure about in South Germany... How about eBay? You've likely to find some older Hiwatts and some newer. Also, some Sound City!

  • Sounds great... get a cab with some fanes and you will be spot on...

  • This is IT. This is it. The philosopher's stone. The holy grail. The end of time...

  • @thisafternoon

haha , well said! I agree!

  • Really nice playing, and that amp sounds terrific. I bow down to you, sir!

  • @mikec717 Thank you my friend!

  • some day i will get a hiwatt for my bass :/

  • Well i just bought this amp head , brand new for 1700 from the u.k , now i only need to find the perfect speaker cabinet for it , any suggestions ? thanks .

  • @TheSAJ11 Nice! Well, I'm not sure there is a "perfect" cabinet. It really depends on your taste. I use a Hughes & Kettner 2x12 with Vintage 30's. It's a nice thick build and it sounds huge. You may want to try an Orange 2x12 which would be similar, and of course there is a Hiwatt with Fanes! Avatars are good cheaper cabs but I feel like they are a different build quality all together, but worth it if you want to experiment.

  • holy crap that is sweet!!

does the booster pedal drive the amp harder without affecting the volume?

  • @guitarshredda2 Thanks!! It boosts the input which incidentally boosts the overall volume as well. But it gives it a baddass bite!

  • Id advise to stay away from any UK made Hiwatt. They are built owned by Musicground who are the biggest bunch or rip off merchants you'd ever deal with. Do some internet reasearch on Music Ground's reputation before parting with your cash.

  • @bencantona You can do all the research you want, the proof is in the pudding. If you get a chance to play one and you like it, then good. If you don't, then that's fine as well. I personally think mine is a great piece in my collection. If you were concise in your research, you would find that there are varying opinions about these amps, as well as most amps out there. So, the final decision comes down to the player.

  • I close my eyes and I hear David.

Your phrasing is georgeous. And I'm hard to please.

Tell me, what effects did you add via pro-tools? I hear a little reverb? Is that all?

  • @chooseyourblues Thanks for the great compliments. From what I recall I used a TOUCH of subtractive EQ and a bit of verb for some depth, but yes that would be all.

  • You sound awesome, and I am very envious of your setup.

I am so curious to hear what this thing sounds like full on. Boost + as loud as you can stand it. I bet it is incredible.

Can you record that thing cranked?

  • @artgreta Check out my other videos. I have a demo of the amp and I crank it up at the end!

  • very nice playin' and feelin'. i am waiting for that firm to built a combo all tubes around 20 watts. i hope one day they do a combo on those specs.

  • nice job man

  • @grahamccollins

    Thanks!!

  • Awesome Clyde. I am about to buy this Hiwatt head. Would you send me a picture or a link of the booster you use? Do you mess arround with the LINK input? Thanks, Paulo

  • @PauloEPedroso

I do use the linked input. Check out the info for a complete listing of the gear I used for this including the booster. You can google the name I'm sure and you'll find some stuff. It's a pretty small company and they're not that easy to find. However, there are lots of different boosters out there! Good Luck!

  • Hi Clyde. Thanks for the reply.

So the booster pedal just gives you more volume/output and that makes the amp sound just like your video?

DG uses the BK Butler Tube Overdrive as a booster, so will it pretty much do the same thing? (of course the pedal will give it's own color to the amp but it's almost clean).

  • Yes, essential a booster increases the input signal into the amp, which drives the preamp circuit creating a natural amp overdrive.

As far as I know DG uses the Butler TD as an overdrive/distortion not really a booster. But I really don't know. That pedal would color the amp more than most boosters.

  • @Clyde67 He indeed uses a BK Butler Tube Driver as does Billy Gibbons and Eric Johnson.

  • Very well played, man. I`m impressed!

I`m gonna get me a maxwatt g100. They say it`s great....I hope so.

  • Absolutely beautiful tone and excellent playing - an inspiration to new (like me)and seasoned players alike. I have a Strat, some vintage pedals and just got a DR504 made in '76. I've got the equipment and think the learning curve on how to get the right tone out of it all is steeper than learning how to play ! Great job - are you for hire to teach ? lol

  • Haha, thanks very much. Perhaps if you were close by we could arrange a few lessons. Good luck with your search for the tone!

  • Hi mate! NIce playing! I am seriously considering investing in one of these DG -504s as I totally love Gilmour's tone and style. For the money would you recommend this and why do you love it? Or would you go to a smaller HiWatt (say a Custom 7 watt UK made unit which is $2000 cheaper!). Would appreciate your comments on this Hiwatt!

  • They're all going to sound a bit different for sure. I do like smaller low-watt combos due to the fact that you can crank them up and get more tone out of them usually. I can't say how close it will sound for sure, but I'm sure they will sound good. Look at the Reeves amps as well!

    Cheers.

  • Good playing. Very economical and no fluff. Each note was in the right spot.

  • Thanks!!

  • Was that a 25/50 hanging on the wall in the beggining of the video?

  • Certainly was... Good eye!

  • Absolutely great tone and feel !!

Keep rock'in man I enjoyed the vid

  • Thanks so much!!!!

  • wow the tone is almost 100% gilmour

  • Thanks!

  • Your playing reminds me of page....hints here and there man...nice with some santanta mixed in there. GOOD JOB =) and what model of Ibanez artcore? is it an AS, AFS, or AS? somthing like that? cus i like the sound of this guitar. ALSO how much did you put all this for? (amps/ guitar/ ect) like the package.

  • Thanks very much.. Tough to say how much I paid, I've acquired pieces over the years. The Ibanez is an AWD82LTD-BK. Discontinued. I also put Dimarzio pickups in it with a coil tap.

  • man i really enjoyed you playing.... hiwatt+booster really

    kick ass....very "gilmourish" style :-)

  • Thank you for the kind words!!

  • Is it possible to connect this amp to PC?

  • Not directly

  • Not? Strange. I am little bit dissapointed. Amp should have that. You plug the cabel and record. That's good.

  • Not many "real" amps have that. You would need some sort of USB configuration I'm assuming. Most guitar players prefer playing an amp through a speaker cabinet and getting a natural sound which can be picked up by a microphone, which is what I did here.

  • Of course! I considering "recording".

  • "Not many "real" amps have that." That's true too.

  • Hi...Your dr504 is a "Music Ground" Hiwatt or a vintage model?

Great tone, i'm thinkin' to buy one.

  • That is great tone!

  • Thanks!!

  • Very, very nice!!!!

  • Thanks I agree! I LOVE that amp!!!

  • That is nice my friend. Tone is beautiful, beats the amp sim crap

  • Sure does! It's alive!!

  • 1:45.... I sleep with my amps too :)

    Great Playing

  • Haha, thanks!

  • Fantastic!

  • Thanks!

  • that's an amp for a lifetime but what about the speakers then?Vintage 30's are good but not exactly pure hiwatt.

  • Well, that's what I have. I would prefer something else at times but this rig still screams! There are plenty of guys out there using V30's with Hiwatts. Someday maybe I'll get a cab with Fanes.

  • Great tone dude¡ I own a '77 DR103,and IMO these amps beats any SLPlexi in any order, from tone to construction, and also they work great with any pedal, I'using a Durham Zia Drive(buy one now¡¡) & XOTIC RC Scott Henderson. Cab is a 4X12 Sinmarc(vintage spanish fender clones)loaded with sound city speakers¡¡

  • Nice!! Thanks, I'll def check out that pedal!!! Cheers!

  • Nice twist on a classic!

  • Thanks! It's a lot of fun to do a take on a track you are so familiar with for years!

  • love your tones, i think hiwatt will be the next amp in my collection

  • I'd say it will be the best choice you've ever made! It was for me!

  • best amp i ever tried

  • Nice job! Love your phrasing and of course, the tone. Nicely done...perfect way to enjoy a cup of coffee and bring in the morning. Thanks, //pete

  • Or a spot of tea!! Thanks very much for the kind words. I want to upload some more videos this summer but I've been so busy!

  • id love an amp like this...but i can't afford it cuz I'm poor.

  • check out Ceriatone amplifiers. They sell clones of 2 hi watt models, cleverly titled "hey what?! 504 and 103". You can by them as a kit or have him assemble the whole amp for you, at HALF the price of a Hi-Watt. Google it now

  • straight to the hear... beautiful man

  • Thanks very much! Check out my other videos.

  • what volume are you playing this at? how much boost?

  • Not sure exactly. Probably moderate volume with maybe 10db of boost.

  • ..hey¡¡ fantastic tune's...congratulations, you find the real sound¡

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Hello, Clyde67!

Great playing and sound! How loud is the amp? I am thinking about buying a DG-504 but I am afraid, it is impossible to play on this amp at reasonable volume (I dont mean distorted sound but only the clean). Thanks!

  • Well, if you just want to play it clean it's really not a problem. But to realize the full potential of the amp you will need to crank it up.

I'm pretty sure that the smaller Hiwatts might fit your needs, or even the smaller wattage Reeves!!

  • I wish i could hear the hiwatt with a russian big muff, to hear what its like.

    nice tone though man.

  • Best tone I've ever heard from a Ibanez...Most sound like a harsh treble nightmare.

Once again, great tone and nice feeling in your playing!

  • Haha, thanks a lot! You can do a lot with Ibanez guitars, it's just a shame that a lot of people only know them as shredders. They are really well built and cheap! Anyway, I have swapped out the pickups in mine and they sound fantastic and really well balanced. Dimarzio Air Zone and Air Nortons.

  • Hiwatt----the best!

  • Clyde - excellent stuff, your4 playing is great and sweet tones. Dude, please grow your hair, with short hair you look like Robbie Williams, and that's a disaster for a great guitarist....grow your hair you wont look like him. :)

  • Hahahaha... that's pretty funny. I had long hair once. I was thinking about growing it again, but I hate that awkward in between stage!!!

  • VERY VERY NICE..........

  • Thank you!!
