  • it helps to feed them mealworms or whatever out of your hand so they recognize it as giving them food no trying to hurt them

  • i just got two Tokay geckos Male and Female How the hell do i tame them the Male is started to let me hold him then just started biting again.

  • Are Baby Ones So Aggresive Liek IF U Have Them For Like A Year Would They Go Easyers On YOu?

  • Nice catch at 9:03 :)

  • first off, excellent video

Do you have any tips for taming, or trying to tame a basilisk?

I have a Male and Female and both are still crazy

  • quick hands!

  • your inspiring haha i love reptiles and im impressed on what you have

  • And you don't necessarily need to take it out of the terrarium at first. You can first just pat it's back or something, so that it gets used to touching. And much later try to hold it, after it has gotten used to being touched.

  • Hey girl, you should sit down on a couch or something while handling them, so they won't fall 2 meters down to the floor if they decide to jump.

  • man you got balls i once got bit by a tokay and it stung like a bitch i never went near one again

  • can i tame a white lined gecko like this ?

  • Hello

I really like how you tame your tokays. But if i start using your method with no grabbing the tokay, what i am going to do, if the geckos jumps of my hand on the floor? Then i have to grab him or not? How do i get a tokay of the floor without grabbing and stressing him?

    Palme

  • @JukkaPalme100 that is what I am worried about too. With my white lined gecko, I tame him in a room (my bathroom) where it is most safe for him if he does jump.

  • Wow good job.. your titts are quite soothing to man and beast apparently. I didnt really see the vid past 07:05 but Im sure it was good.

  • i've owned a tokay, you're truly a reptile whisperer if you can get one to trust you. can hardly imagine a more distrustful creature. beautiful though.

  • could U do a how to tame a knight anole video please?

  • how do you determine their gender?

  • id just like to say thanks you really helped me get '' in touch " with my tokay

  • 1. If i Belive in animal Whispering or not... its another story ^^ but

    2. I the best on this vid is the non force and the respect from these animals... sadly in some countrys ( Like in Germany ) reptiles, Gekkos, Iguanas, Bearded Dragons and so on, Insects, Scorpoins and Spiders such like Snakes Venomus or not become a "Coolness Homeanimal" -.- So its nice to see someone who knows to handle this nice animals... Thumbs Up 4 that !! Thanks for the nice vid

  • So, I tried your method, flat handed. It's hard in my terrarium because of the angles and places she hides. And as soon as she barks I flinch and pull my hand out. As much as I try to suppress that reaction I can't help it and it's probably only making things worse. So, I'm just going to leave her be, she'll appreciate that.

  • looks like its nose is a little busted up.

  • Does their bite hurt?

  • I just got a Tokay about a week ago, and he is SUPER PISSY. How did you get them to this point?

  • @TheSilentWyvern Thanks for the info ^_^

  • You should write a reptile magezine article on taming gecoks

  • @flashfang12 Haha that would be cool but its hard to explain in without showing it. Thats why i made this video:)

  • hi! I really want a tokay gecko! I have a leopard gecko, 2 firebelly toads and a crested gecko. Do you think I am ready for a tokay?

  • your the reason i have a tokay gecko i had hi for 5 months and were doing awesome :)

  • At the place I volunteered at, They told me that if I took a nice hard bite from a tokay that I could keep it for free. She didn't bite me, so I bought her. She hasn't bitten me since, so I want to try to tame her more. Thank you for the video!

  • Loved how the tame one was just minding her own business

  • hey well i got a smaller tokay similiar to that 1 but when i tryed that my geco sits there with his mouth wide open so should i still procide to go under him?

  • thats a cute tokay my lizard always lets m hug him but he does not let anyothers do

  • is their bites bit painful? thanks

  • @TheReptileWhisperers

    Hello,

I'm planning on buying me a gecko. Which is the best kind I could get?

  • I just got a Tokay and he isn't mean at all. He never bites or barks even when you try and pick him up. My sis said he hissed at her twice but he never did it to me. Is this normal, I thought they were supposed to be really aggressive?

  • @LyricalAppleJax They are not supposed to hiss. It sounds like your gecko might have respitory infection. They normally try to get away if they are not tame so yours not reacting to you further makes me think he is sick. I would watch him very closely and make sure he is eating drinking normally. If he doesnt act normal after a week i would take him to a vet.

  • @TheReptileWhisperer How much does one of these cost?

  • @lilmisstrobble Not much, between $15 to $25 depending on where you get it. I'm sure age is a factor in price as well.

  • @LyricalAppleJax They don't hiss, your sis lied for whatever stupid reason.

  • nice b**bs :)

  • do you know the background of these geckos?

  • @edjorthebeast Yes. Are you referring to natural history or where these individual geckos came from? Ex. Ariel was a freshly WC adult when I bought her-skinny with parasites. Eric was also bought as an adult but had been in captivity for awhile, I think originally he was wc because he has broken toes on his back foot.

  • @edjorthebeast Oh I forgot to mention, when I saw Eric at the petstore, the people there would open his cage and piss him off on purpose trying to get him to bark & bite. The guys there thought it was funny and told me"see you dont want him, he is mean" I was angry & I stuck my hand in the cage and got him out myself without getting bitten, i walked to the counter & said im buying him. They were shocked lol!

  • @TheReptileWhisperer lol. thanks reason I asked was b/c I saw some sort of Gecko (I think it was a Tokay) back in the Philippines, that looked like the guys you have here.

  • @TheReptileWhisperer lol thats brilliant XD XD

  • how hard was this when u actually started?????

  • you're a legend!

  • This has to be one of the most useful videos on Youtube. Thanks so much for sharing your technique. Always thought tokays were beautiful but never wanted to try them because of their reputation (that and I got chomped down by one who wouldn't let go back in the 80's).

  • also with the descrpition of my tokay habitat, how is the best way to hold it? like the 2nd way where you used both hands? *i didnt see that very well due to the plants

  • @Exotional If she is housed in a critter keeper how do you provide heat? Feed 1-2 dozen crickets a week. Dust crickets once a week w calcium + D3. Coax her to crawl on your hand w the other hand. Dont be afraid of biting, dont use gloves. If she bites, its not that bad, just wait till she lets go on her own. She will learn biting does not do anything.

  • @TheReptileWhisperer At the moment in time, and sadly, I have no heating pad. I'm soon going to this weekend get her one and possible a new habitat. And thanks for the help c:

  • and another question, no website will give me this answer to: How many crickets a day should i feed my juvenile tokay? They always say just once a day, but how many in one day?

  • question here, I recently about 2, 3 weeks ago bought a juvenile tokay gecko. I have only picked it up once and knew I realized i went wrong on how to hold it. What im mostly afraid of is the warning bites. I know they arent real but, is it smart to wear gloves? I mean she did latch on at the beggining of her mouth the first time because i didnt hold her the right way. I have her in a habitat much like the blue lid one in the back ground. she mostly stays at the top like ariel.

  • @Exotional why would u buy a gecko and keep it in a critter keeper. I feel awful for your lizard.

  • @alcapone24 you dont have to feel awful for it anymore, and i dont either. Its in a much more bigger habitat

  • thats a 39E lizard lounge that you got those 2 in isnt it? great tank!

awesome tokays btw i like your setup, and beautiful geckos! also great to see people not afraid of these

i love how ariel is just like whatever just leave me alone haha

    nice catch!

  • does this work with crested geckos too cuz mine pip is scared of m touching him let alone pick him up so would this work??

  • why americans always want to handeling everthing? Animals should handeling them selves.

  • really well made demonstration. Good job :-)

  • Mine is 25% son of a bitch and 75% motherfucker... There is no way i will do that with him as soon as the door is open he run like hell and try to bite me... Love him anyway

  • gee you make it so easy >,< I am afraid of mine.

  • THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.

  • K thanks! =]

  • Can u house a mating pair of giant day geckos in a 20-30 gal tank? I only have a female right now. She's only 5in long and full-grown...

  • @Ash2253130 gal would be ok but not sure I would go smaller than that.

  • what they tend to do is stand thier ground... JUMP!

  • K thanks!!! I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I was just afraid of tearing it's skin but I think that only happens when u GRAB the gecko. Anyway, thanks again! =]

  • Can this work on a giant day gecko? They're really fast and have sensative skin. I know I cant pet their tail or anything. So how can I do it? Please help!!!

  • @Ash22531 yes, its how I tamed mine.

  • When do u suggest to start taming a Leo, after a week or so in its new shelter or ASAP?

  • can this work on leopard geckos?

  • @thewildkid4 yep

  • does your gecko have dark color? Mine is very dark, I just bought it a few days ago and it is starting to shed, the seller told me its color will be lighter after it shed

  • @apocalic Tokays can change from light to dark at will. It has nothing to do w shedding. Most young tokays are dark until you start holding them. Then after a few minutes they lighten up. Some adults are the same way. My three adults however, stay bright most of the time regaurdless.

  • Thank you for this video. I just saved one. horrible conditions. I checked it out. Seems healthy, no mouth rot or bleeding or blackness in the mouth. Not a wild caught, but since it lived in such a bad mess I dont want to take chances. great demonstration by the way.

  • that was so helpful! he used to bite me whenever i went near him but now if i hold him he just crawls on my arm. i also haven't been bitten since!

  • thank you this realy helped me with my tokay and hes doing great thanks again

  • Tokays are kinda like Canadian Geese, when you approach them they tend to puff up and start to bark at you, then when they feel threatened they will bite. Though Canadian geese are about a couple feet big, you gotta give props to the Tokays who are only a few inches for being able to scare full grown human beings off. What I liked most about my Tokays were that they were so awesome to watch and feed, only thing I didnt like was when they got out they found the most difficult places to get them.

  • Congrats on the baby Tokay! I'm thinking about getting one, and I was wondering what plants you have in your terrarium. I'm smirking at the REPTILES magazine on your table showing the Tokay article in 2009.

  • I did what she did in the video and guess what, I was able to hold my tokay and even took him out of his vivarium. NOW, guess what the price is. I got bloody fingers. She did a pitbull bite on my pinky she drew blood. She even got the blood on her face like some wild crocodile. But still, it was a very nice experience.

  • i already got one tokay gecko but i dont know if it is a boy or girl.how do you know if it is a boy or girl? Thanks

  • Best vid so far about taming tokay gecks.. I have four of these darlings (same size as the one in your vid), all of them are very aggressive. I really hope I could tame them. I guess this vid would help me a lot in doing so. Thanks a million, ma'am. :) I admire you.

  • hey i gonna get three tokay geckos how much crickets do i need every week? please answer

  • @megajackvader 12 to 24 crickets a week for each gecko. It depends on the size of the geckos & size of crickets you are feeding.

  • @megajackvader 2-3 crickets per day. i suggest you breed crickets so you'll get thousands more crickets so you wont come back to the pet store to buy crickets and save you some money. you can also feed them baby mouse or pinkies once a month. and mealworms also once a week

  • lol im a boy and i wouldnt even do this i do got a leo but hes skiddish but just a baby but a big lizard w. warning bitess l0l hellllll nooooooooooo

  • this girl is my fav best reptile person ever i had my fits aboute my tokay i realy was gonna give up and get a flying gecko but this is truly amazing im am so shocked it was aggresive and then couple minutes later it letting you pet it im subing to you awesome so shocking Holy crap :D

  • oh wow ... Thank you so much for the vid ... if i can do it on first 3 attempts I will want to tame mine ... otherwise i'll be happy to have the little dude stays healthy & not stress .. but you are awesome that is for sure! well done!

  • damn you have a BIG balls to be a girl, i have 3 tokay but i wouldnt do what you are doing with them lol

  • @216hotchocolate Hahaha! Yeah reptiles don't scare me. I've been around them almost my whole life.

  • @TheReptileWhisperer ohh i see

  • @TheReptileWhisperer

If a Tokay bites you, does it hurts?

  • @XehanortNobody I have only been bitten once when I first got my wild caught female. I was giving her wormer in a syringe and putting it in her mouth. She caught the tip of my thumb and held on. I waited for a minute and she let go. It didn't really hurt but it broke the skin a little.

  • @TheReptileWhisperer hey guess what i just tame my tokay, i was inspired by this video, thank girl keep it up and tame more reptiles but hope not a komodos or croc :P

  • @216hotchocolate Lol, I'm a girl, and I LOVE THIS VID!!! I'm happy, because I thought tokays were way too hard to tame, I might have motivation to get me now. :D

  • these are not normal geckos they dont like to run away "as gecko leaps from the branch and runs from her hand" lol

  • Hi.. Are these Tokays poisonous? Would a bite kill human?

Do Tokays tongues sought after for a cure... namely AIDS?

In Malaysia, these creatures are going for huge $price$..

  • @kennedylouis72 stupid

  • @GoofyPenguin525 Hahaha.. I just made USD 500,000 last week with my 1st ever sale (Tokays). These geckos are really rewarding...

  • @kennedylouis72 hahaha bought mine for 19.00 dollars.

  • lol, jump and run, last time mine did was a two hour chase becuase I need to catch her before my dog did. She was fine after the chase but still holds a two year grudge against my dog.

  • thanks for this video this really works, i just bought one but he likes to gives me warnings :P

  • I am shocked by how tame your Tokays are! I am still debating on whether I want a Madagascar Giant Day Gecko, Gold Dust Day Gecko or a Tokay. Watching this video and your other Tokay vids made fall in love with these guys even more :) . I thought mostly all Tokays were defensive but it turns out I was wrong! Beautiful Tokays by the way :)

  • yh rite the tokays in the shop i work in dont even lift thier wood up :P hahaha

  • Whats in the blue critter keeper, with the water?

  • Very Nice Indeed, i really envy you, i have one tokay G however i still trying to tame it, it still haven't eaten yet, seeing your video realize that mine is a bit vicious and i wouldn't dare to approach without any gloves unless it tame of course

  • im going to buy one soon :) should i take him young ? cuz if he bites me its not really gonna hurt and he's gonna get use to me faster ? i just looove that kind of gecko

  • it helps to just let them bite you you need to show them your not a predator

  • your video has really helped ive tamed my tokay within a couple daus he was nasty whrn i got him

  • any suggestions on the tokay im thinking of getting mine in a few days i heard how mean they are but it looks like its well worth it!

  • Drcaprice i have never had trouble with anoles mine love to be handled they walk on to my hand when i put t in there cage.

  • oh,

    its so cute

  • dose this work with all lizards? like little asshole brown anoles?

  • my beardie is a lot more aggressive only with other people tht is

  • my arm isnt long enough :( :) :P

  • this is off topic but i bought a crestie juvi yesterday i got it set up pertfectly, if put a few lil crickets in there and some CGD should i worrie about him feeding or just let him get on in his own time?

  • mine was sent straight from hell he is evil it attacks me every time i put my hand in the cage,he eats fine, but he is so wild and i got him at a local pet store ive tried your video but he always tries to bite.

  • never mind it just took a lil time

  • You said that they're docile towards each other, is that saying that males housed together won't attack one another?

  • I heard that offering food is also a good way, also.

  • thx 4 making this vid this help me tame my tokay now i luv holding it P.S how can u tell the tokay's sex?

  • Sweet Video,I Had, To Watch All This Video,Even Thou I Was Almost Late For Work,But This Video Was Worth It,Excellent Info On How To Tame, Big Thumbs Up!!

  • @InTeNsIvE2344 Depends on the gecko's personality. Some take a few days and some take a few weeks. Not sure what box but on top of the cage are a few baby veiled chameleons I think.

  • lmao "They will Not let go"

  • Barking?

  • @jedihunter176 Tokay Geckos have a warning bark and a mating bark.

  • @ReptileGirlGecko Again...barking? I've never seen that in reptiles, that's interesting.

  • @jedihunter176 Tokay Geckos are the only reptile I know of to bark. Im still studing reptiles and I hope to learn even more about reptiles :)

  • @ReptileGirlGecko hmm...well, I just went a little ways around YouTube and it turns out other species of lizard/gecko that vocalizes like that too...

  • @jedihunter176 Cool!

  • wow that's amazing!! you'revery pretty too :)

  • Comment removed

  • Im going to do this every day, my tokay isnt very aggresive anyway but just to ake sure eh? she's also ALOT smaller then him, so yeah, great vid :D

  • @KoBrAmC2k8 Yeah a nice docile tokay is awesome! Thanks:)

  • Ok Thanks

  • Do they bite, And Does it hurt?

  • @SGTPhouthone Yes, anything with a mouth can bite. Yes if it is a large gecko

  • Where did you get your tokay geckos? They're beautiful. The only place I've found that ships them is LLLReptiles

  • @ChristopheRosenbauer I bought all three from different petstores. The 1st I bought as a hatchling, I "rescued" her because she was emaciatied:( The 2nd I bought as a WC adult, she was thin and had parasites. The 3rd I got as an adult also, he was in good condition but his toes were messed up from an old wound.

  • i started out watching this video, tokay on gloved hand and it was very agressive, as i watched the video i did what u did and slowly became familiar with him/her by the end of the video i was holding without gloves, though it still freaked me out when it licked my finger, jumped and the headed for my face, (hard to type with a gecko in your hand) thanks for the great video, i appreciate it, do u have info on how to tell male from female?

  • @skaterchick51 That's awesome! Glad I could help:) Yes sexing is not too difficult. Males and females have pores under the back legs. Males have wax in them, females do not. Maybe I can do a future vid on sexing.

  • My daughter is 10 and really wants a Tokay. This would be her first reptile. Good idea or not??

  • @Dcbois Only a good idea if you get a small baby and she holds it every day. If you don't it will be scared of you and will be hard to tame since she is not experienced. Make sure she is always gentle and never grabs. Little babies are sooooo easy to tame. The one I raised from a baby is extrememly tolerant and docile.

  • on a side note, how often do you need to do this/how long does it normally take to tame a tokay?

  • @mojotheaverage Every day. Depends on the gecko. Some a few days, some longer

  • Nice catch at 9:08! Great video, you've convinced me to get a tokay as my next lizard (if my cresty turns out to be a male). Gotta do more research obviously but they seem like they can become nice and placid. Do you know if all Tokays can be tamed as such or is it just certain examples? Does this technique work for wild caught Tokays?

  • Comment removed

  • I have just bought my first tokay gecko, how long time should i wait to try taming it? It is pretty stressed out after moving in i guess, hasnt eaten yet either, trying to tame the first day is a bad idea right?
