How does SOA relate to application rationalization?

If an organization uses a service oriented design for a set of business services AND they are successful in using and reusing them, then the need for rationalizing applications in the future will be reduced. So, SOA is a way to implement a cleaner applications design and reduce redundancy. Hope that helps.
