When GM merged with Sabb, it wasn't until 1994 when things got screwed by
making a new 900. Ever since then, there has been nothing but problems up until I believe it was 2006 or was it 08? Not sure that GM started doing things right. Now that Spyker bought Saab from GM, things should start looking up. With the early models that people own could very well go up if taken care of properly. Or atleast the SPG's from 89 and 90 which I think are the best years made.
My 900 is EXACTLY that make and colour, save a little more faded! The bonnet has been changed at some point and sticks out like a sore thumb with the way it shines in the sunlight.
Saab was truly made for nordic conditions. So i'm not surprised it lasts forever. Especially the older ones, like other older cars maybe 10, 20 years or more older. Have a long lifespan.
Saab built the longest lasting engines ever -an american buisinessman made more than 1.000.000 miles with his Saab -of course with one engine. The last I owned made 435.000km and is still running well in the Nederlands. My actual one is a rustfree 1988 900 turbo convertible with actually 260.000km and of course in pretty good shape. And by the way - my first Saab -a Model 96 from 1973- was alreadyequipped with side impact protection.
JESUS, you had a Sonett? I want a III, I want a III so bad it almost hurts to see the prices in this country. My family has been one of Saab enthusiasts ever since my mother met a moose head-on at 90 KPH in a Saab 90 and didn't get a scratch (the moose slid all the way over the car, roof and all)
I suppose my 900 will have to do for now, as long as I get to borrow 4 other 900s (two of whom are cabriolets), two 9000s and a 9-3 =)
I have a '91 900s; I just LOVE this car. I'm a bassist and I think they must've had us in mind when they built these cars! I would think that rule would apply to ANY traveling musician! Room + Reliability + Cool Factor = Saab 900
nice. i just bought a white 1990 saab 900 s for $2100. its really nice, only has 96,000 miles on it. it so nice. it runs better than my '95 saab 900 s.
SAAB officially ended in 1993 when GM's president, The Devil, shat out the "new generation 900" from its gaping maw. Person1:What kind of car do you drive? Person2:A Saab.
Person1:Oh really? What model?
Person2:2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible. Person1:Oh.. you mean a GM convertible. Fag. Who cares about all this shit anyway. Jesus will come back, like it says in Revelation, with a bad ass tattoo on His leg, riding a white horse, slaying all unbelievers with a sword that comes from His mouth.
The Saab 2.0L 4cyl turbo used in the 9-3 has a known defect that causes it to seize. The Volvo turbos are great motors. My Mom had an '89 745 turbo that she put 224k miles on. She sold it to a lady for $200 and a few days later the head gasket blew. She drove it pretty hard too. Was an incredibly solid car overall.
I'm talking about the Saab 9-3. It has a turbo 2.0L engine that is very faulty in design and only lasts 100k miles IF that long. I think you are talking about the Saab 900.
Saabs were actually Saabs in the past, prior to GM purchase of the company.
Question which begs an answer is: "What has Saab become since this purchase & why is it still called a Saab!?"
Saab was a successful & well-made product (which GM turned into another uninspired GM product.
"Parasitic" relationships GM forms with those it devours is nothing new & Lotus comes to mind, as an example. (GM purchased Lotus & allowed Chevrolet to cannibalize it for the benefit of the Corvette!)
I really like SAAB, but it looks as if their being bought by GM a few years back has been nothing but bad. Whatever happened to great SAAB's like the classic 900? I agree with your statement about how SAABs were in the past as opposed to today. It's unfortunate but true.
The most Magic moments in my life i had with my Saab..(ps:don't tell my wife)

I recently bought a 1990 SPG with 177k on it for only 3k. It runs like it's never even hit 100k.
I intend on getting a couple minor things fixed i.e. dash, other than that it's the best money I ever spent.

I especially like the part at 0:25

This is exactly what happens when GM sticks it's fingers into something. GM= total failure. Its sad to see Saab gone, I still have my 93 in Europe.

I hope Saab finds a way to survive, as unlikely as it seems.
