Jon Patrick Riley (Irish: Seán Pádraic Ó Raghallaigh), also known as John Patrick O'Riley, (c. 1805 – August 1850), a United States Army private, was one of the several hundred immigrant Catholic Irishmen who defected from the US Army and formed the Saint Patrick's Battalion to fight for Mexico in the 1846-48 Mexican-American War. Riley led the battalion as a brevet major commissioned by Mexico.
Paul K made his own version of this song on his album "Blues For Charlie Lucky" personally I like his version better, but this one is very nice aswell :)
One of my life favorite songs, this version still takes me back to Bangkok when I first heard this album, at Nancy and Cary's house a few days before I first entered Vientiane. Loved it then and still today. Thank You for providing this version for me to hear today, when it again could make a difference still. I am grateful
5D is a great album ~ very interesting mix of English/scottish folk with the Byrd's treatment (very effective) and pyschedelic rock like Eight Miles, I see You, What's Happening???, with the obligatory freeform freakout.
