The standard spec Diablo is powered by a mid mounted 4 liter V6 Twin Turbo pushing out 425hp@7300 RPM with 535nm of torque at 2300RPM. It offered power doors, windows and seats, and could accelerate 0-62MPH in 7.3 seconds setting a new record at the time.
"Bugatti is now own by Volkswagen, and"...if I had a Crystal Ball I could of told everyone that they were planning on making the Veyron - which is quite simply the greatest automotive engineering achievement and expression in all of history. Jeremy Clarkson here, showing much foresight (!)
the fact is hes right, it WILL die, someday in the future, just think, NA engines are dying, Us recently announced that all cars MUST do 60mpg in the future and the euro 5 regulations isnt helping either...
Ok I get it dude dont get so mad lol I worded that badly, I didn't mean to call him stupid or anything, I just thought it was funny how he made that comment about Bugatti and then they came out with the Veyron, and you're right, I had no idea about the Gablier or whatever u said, but btw you said "only 2 turbos", but that's 2 more than my truck has haha
@dnbveno That is a parody of Jeremy Paxman who does interviews like this, and repeats his question one thousand times until it is answered. Look up his interviews... they are hilarious!
this video precisely shows the mclaren f1's qualities. an unexperienced driver like clarkson cant drive it, but an experienced driver like tiff can and if you can drive it its THE BEST!!!!!
Bugatti is launching a saloon that will make the RR Phantom look like a Vectra. The Bugatti Galibier.Veyron engine, only 2 superchargers in stead of 4 turbos.Like the Veyron did 4 supercars, the Galibier will do 4 luxury saloons.Raise the bar to a whole new level. So Clarkson wasn`t WRONG,he was just a bit off on the dates and order of things.
God I wish I could have been there when the Veyron came out and he realized just how wrong his "Bugatti is owned by VW and so will move on to large saloons" comment. If only he knew how totally opposite his prediction was lol
@Paaka70 I really wanna be there when Bugatti launches the Galibier and you realize how stupid YOUR comment looks.Get a clue, and THEN rip on Clarkson.
This video is from a turning point where the supercar breed was running dry, and shortly afterwards loads of supercars were released. Pagani, Lambourghinis by Audi, Ferrari 360 and Enzo, Koienegsegg, Aston Martin Vanquish, Ford GT, Ascari KZ1, New Maseratis, Noble M12, TVR Tuscan, New Honda NSX, Porsche GT, and Mosler M900S
Clarkson is ridiculous. He prefers the just as stripped down and raw F40, but does nothing but bash the F1. The two cars are more alike than they are different and his bias towards one over the other is silly. Getting into an F1 is exciting because it lacks any kind of electronic assists, just as the F40 does.
Clarkson is still right. All this shit we have these days, even the Zonda, Bugatti, Lambo, Ferrari etc are all bollocks.
Take away the ABS, the safety features, the airbags, the traction control all that shit... when I hop in a supercar I want to feel like I might die everytime I drive this machine!!!
This is where the real passion comes from. Before the nanny-state took over. This is to me, why cars like the McLaren F1 and the F40 will always be the greatest supercars!!!
@C63AMGestate if you don't consider the corvette a super car, then what kind of super car does america makes? The only one i can think of is the ford gt
@TheManGuyDude Grand tourer in my eyes. Same with the SLR Mercedes. And imo, the Porsche 911 is a sports car.
The term 'supercar' only really came about after the mid engined Lamborghini Miura and generally refers to a roadcar, although this is indeed 'in my eyes' so others may consider anything in a stratospheric level of performance and price.
@80sglamfan By c63amgestate's logic, he says cars without mid engine layout isn't a super car. That's why he doesn't even consider Aston Martins supercars.
@sup3rcars: Car journalists have more of a peek into the future than those of us outside of the industry. Take this video for example - it's from the middle of the year 2000, yet Jeremy already knew about the Mclaren Mercedes SLR, which didn't come out until four years later. People like Jeremy get more information about the future of the car industry than others, so they're more qualified to make predictions about the future of cars than you or me.
It was so nice that Clarkson was proved wrong. The Zonda, Murcielago, Carrera GT, Enzo, SLR, Veyron, and on, and on...
He's saying much the same thing these days, that we've peaked and that supercars will either get worse or cease to be made. I hope he's wrong again, and I'm sure he hopes so, too.
the thing was, though, was they actually did make a big saloon prototype to compete with the RR Silver Seraph. Only after that fell through that Ferdinand Piech order for the Veyron to be built
It's funny to look back at the old videos where everyone was saying the Supercar was dead. And now they're at it again, with Clarkson's emo review of an Aston (can't remember which one, they're all the same anyway) saying once again that it's the last of its kind. The Green Police are going to wipe out the supercar.
Well sorry, that's just not going to happen. Whether the cars become electric, run on fuel-sipping jets, or if gasoline is made out of algae, the love of speed shall NEVER die.
It was actually the end of an supercar era, the new one began with the murcielago and it ends with the veyron, 5 years from now we will be in the same situation, until 2017 when new and exciting supercars will start appearing again.
Ironically, When Bugatti was bought by Volkswagen, they made the Veyron and the mercedes slr was an amazing roadcar. This was right before the big supercar boom
Man he was talking down on Tiff so bad, lol kinda like "Im way better than you and Top gear is way more popular now than when you were here" haha I know he was all jokin but it was funny!
@Luff55g Because that's what was happening at the time - they had propsed a saloon car. Volkswagen bought Bugatti in the late 90s, around the time this was filmed no doubt. It wasn't a prediction of the future, it was him reporting on what VW had proposed to do.
I find it Ironic that clarkson finds the mclaren to be too expensive and unrealistic and yet has a perpetual hard on for the bugatti veyron, which now costs almost twice what the mclaren did when it was launched.
not to mention the bugatti veyron is even more impracticable than a mclaren considering how often things break down and need to be repaired with it. Any car loaded with turbos is going to have a relatively short lifespan if not maintained properly. Jeremy is just bias..mclaren and Ferrari have had a long and rival history, Jeremy is obviously one-sided and isn't afraid to show it. There is not doubt the f40 is a great car, but imo falls short of being the best.
Skittish is my new favourite word, with that much power in a car so light without a rear spoiler, I would imagine it would be skittish, look at 0:46, thats exactly what a rear wing would car, no weight to put the power down
The mclaren f1 was meant to be used as an everyday car, if it was intended for racing they would have slapped a spoiler on it like they did with the gtr version and sent it off to win the le mans series :P
that song brings back wierd fellings to me because it came out when i was about 2 and i can remember it as well as the feelings of when i was a toddler, or i just heard it for the first time when i was 2 it might have been out for a while
Hahaha, I love how everything he said about the supercar brands is now completely wrong. Bugatti "planning to make big saloons", McLaren making "a big Mercedes"... well, that's not entirely false, but you get my point.
I hate how musclecars and sportscar's all have been branded as dick-enlargers.
If you buy a fast car, it's just because you have a small dick, not because you enjoy driving, and want a fast and exciting car that's nice to look at.
Now ten years later automakers have brought us The Ferrari Enzo The Koenigsegg CCX The Saleen S7 The SSC Ultimate Aero TT The Bugatti Veyron The Ford GT The Audi R8 The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 The Porsche Carrera GT The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 The Dodge Viper ACR I don't think the supercar is dead anymore.
IMHO a supercar has to verge on the ridiculous, it has to be inpractical, brash, and stripped bare. Veyron, GT, R8, Carrera, Corvette etc are all too "luxurious" and pampering to be true supercars. Supercar to me is Ferrari F40, Countach etc etc
@smoke9840142350 the scuderia is a "proper" ferrari yes, unlike some of the more recent "softer" models. The FXX could be a supercar if ever produced, but it won't be. That said, the Koenigsegg CCXR is pretty awesome, and the new rendition of the Hennesey Venom looks amazing. I guess what I mean is that too many newer "supercars" have leather interior, sat nav, surround sound, dvd player and all sorts of "luxuries" and gizmos which, in my opinion at least, in the way.
@minivan442 Well that is what he was talking about...In order to bring Supercars back to life, all car makers had to stop making them! If the super car world becomes so boring, then people would be exited for any new models! Clarkson knew what he was talking about! He is a prophet :P
I am not sure when this was was recorded but he mentioned the F40 but forgot the F50 and it came out b4 the Audi A8. I am glad he is wrong and though at the time it was looking like things were heading that way. But look at some of the "new" supercars they are in ur face but also luxurious inside seems like they found an excellent merger. But he is right the F1 even with the Veyron is still an amazing car 15 years after its production run.

I hate how musclecars and sportscar's all have been branded as dick-enlargers.
If you buy a fast car, it's just because you have a small dick, not because you enjoy driving, and want a fast and exciting car that's nice to look at.

Damn, Needell can shift!

i like how he bashes bugatti, which will (unbenounced to him) produce one of the most extreme supercars ever made. funny how things work out.

Cellsolid 1 year ago
just about the onlybad news are and allways have been, that you can't afford them.
but I guess that's a good thing, because if you could, they would end up like the ford escort cosworth...

whatever you say, I'm totally agreed with Jeremy...
not every fast car can become a supercar

IMHO a supercar has to verge on the ridiculous, it has to be inpractical, brash, and stripped bare. Veyron, GT, R8, Carrera, Corvette etc are all too "luxurious" and pampering to be true supercars. Supercar to me is Ferrari F40, Countach etc etc
fauxsham 1 year ago 2
@fauxsham just cause a supercar is useable for evry day roads doesnt mean it cant be a supercar.
Towelman20 1 year ago
@fauxsham, then u must like the f430 scuderia, its quite like the f40 , and top gear voted it as one of the best out there....
smoke9840142350 1 year ago
@smoke9840142350 the scuderia is a "proper" ferrari yes, unlike some of the more recent "softer" models. The FXX could be a supercar if ever produced, but it won't be. That said, the Koenigsegg CCXR is pretty awesome, and the new rendition of the Hennesey Venom looks amazing. I guess what I mean is that too many newer "supercars" have leather interior, sat nav, surround sound, dvd player and all sorts of "luxuries" and gizmos which, in my opinion at least, in the way.
fauxsham 1 year ago
