Crocodile, not alligator. Too big to be an alligator and the film says it a Salt-Water which is the largest followed by the Nile. You should see it get impaled on a sharp tall pointy rock just a couple minutes later when it's running down a hill after those two and decides to jump. Bad decision by the croc (they're hard like armour plating on top but soft underneath).
