I was going through Basic Training in 1954 at Samson AFB. We had a juke box in the mess hall. This great song would be playing every meal. The guys really loved it. Doris was the very best singer of her generation. Her diction was flawless. Every Christmas, my daughter and I watch "Young at Heart" together. She also loves Doris.
I love this song! Doris is one of the few female singers that really give me that "chill" a person gets when they hear and make a great connection with a singer. Runapa1949, I read your whirlwind romance posting and I wish you both all the best. Great clip! Thanks!
This song also appears as one of the songs in Doris Day's movie "Pillow Talk" with Rock Hudson. Just go to the Video shop and hire it to enjoy --- if you like Doris Day's song and movie!!
@hkuprobity2 I dont remember this song from Pillow Talk.. I know she sang a beautiful song while driving with Rock Hudson's character "REX Stetson" called " My Darling, Possess Me" which is a great song! Doris had such a great quality and richness to her voice. Like Nat King Cole, Doris had that velvet tone. :-)
@NFitalianGuy: You are right that this song was not in PILLOW TALK. Doris recorded it in 1954 as a single and it was unrelated to any of her films. And...Nat King Cole recorded it as well. His version is also posted on You Tube.
@hkuprobity2: This song was not in PILLOW TALK. Doris recorded it as a single in 1954. It was a huge hit for her, but was not connected with any of her films.
Oh yes indeed, what a beautiful song and a very beautiful lady as well! Doris Day was the wife I never had! Poor me! At the old age of 53, I still love Doris Day! Thank you for posting Doris Day's beautiful music! A++++++++
I was 8 when I first heard this song. it was played by my beautiful teenage neighbour Sylvia Stephens on 16 Richmond Rd, Bangalore. Ever since, some 55 years later, it continues to haunt me. I love the song, the memory...and wherever you are Sylvia my heart will always belong to u! Jana Roye
This clip and all your comments tells me romance is not dead...there's hope for the rest of us...THANK GOD!!! Congratulations to runapa1949 on your marriage...SO BEAUTIFUL...I feel like crying. THIS SONG, DORIS DAY singing...can't get any better!! Love you all.
@njezan1 Denise Lor had the first release. Many prefer her version. Doris Day covered it, and they added the male voices gimmick, which was very popular and successful for a brief period with other artists.
Doris Day's version became the overwhelming favorite. Her Columbia recording made the Top Ten bestselling records list (Billboard) on October 2, 1954 and was there (in the Top Ten) for two months.

She's stretching a bit.... I absolutely LOVE Doris- but she did not hit her mark here (esp. given those dorky backups) For a beauty of a rendition, check out Ella's, circa 1968- really squeezes the best out of this (almost) mediocre song.
Although Doris Day had the bigger selling version in late 1954, Denise Lor also had a great rendition on a smaller label. If you love the song, you must hear the Lor version!
A trivia question for you. What was the lowest rated song of all time on "Bandstand" (or American Banstand as it was later known)? It was first recorded by Desise Lor. It was given a 38 by the 3 rocket scientists with the ever present comments "I give it a 38; it doesn't have a good beat you can dance to. So, much for the Bandstand raters; the song peaked at numero uno.
This is a forgotten Doris Day recording...It is very beautiful. The lyrics are so real and loaded with lovely meaning. They just don't write them like this anymore sadly...Sighs for what once was...Romance is missing these days...Jax
Yes you are so right!...yet after leaving a bad relationship,I thought I'd never have the chance to find true romance at my age! then out of the blue it came my way.

You are so funny!
Your obsession with Sodomite practices is quite interesting, as it shows how ignorant and perverted you are.
And, you would be hard pressed to do anything physical to me, as I am a Master of the martial arts.
Oh yes!
I teach the champions how to fight.
You are definitely from the genus Americanus stupidicus.
Please do not comment any more of your ignorant, uneducated, childish rhetoric.
You are showing the world how much you do not understand, unworthy one.

Woman is one.
Your mama, I suppose.
Manwhores, is your resume...
Respect in relationships is dependent on who the relationship involves.
Speak for yourself, and do not categorize and label others you know not about, as being in the same "no class" situation as you belong.
Your obsession with the perverted rhetoric shows all that you are not getting any.
And it also shows that you are guilty of homosexual tendencies of which you are obviously ashamed and in denial of...
Poor son of a whore
