I taped this off the radio in 1972 and it still sounds great! It was one of the Holiday songs I embraced when I felt lonely that Christmas. I had a cast on my leg and was at odds with my sister.
This vinyl record has been put on CD and is available at some stores and on the Apple Store. This tune is quite simple to play on the flute in DO major.
One of my favorite pieces on the album. Have loved this ever since I bought it in the early eighties at Rizzoli's in New York. The entire album is superb. Particularly like this piece. Thanks for posting.
THANK YOU. I had this LP as a teenager. I recently found the LP in a Thrift Store for $1.!!! Now I need a turntable!!! Thank you for posting this. I agree that this is still the most infectious recording ever done.
Absolutely agreed. All the others are played like funeral dirges in comparison. This is played with a sense of fun and reverie. Perfect for Christmas.
Oh and another thing, when you consider when the Pickett and munrow recordings were made, this recording still knocks spots off them - its warm, vibrant and in your face, whereas the others are cold, severe and sound as if they were recorded in a church with the band at one end and an old mic at the other. This recording is what stereo is about!
I bought this recording (on LP) in about 1960. At the time it was purported to be a historically correct instrumentation. Later scholarship would prove this to be untrue, but it is still the most delightful recording of these dances ever to be made.
It was re-released a number of years ago on CD by a different company that I assume bought the rights and masters to the original Archiv recordings. I can't find my CD or remember the name of the company, but it is one of my favorites.
It was re-issued on cd on Boston Skyline in 1994 called " Dance Music of the High Renaissance" BSD 118 . DG has never re-issued the lp in its original format, only in anthology collections such as the 2 disc "Panorama: Dances of the Renaissance" or from France as "Danses de la Renaissance" or Germany as "Renaissance Dance Music". The latter is available quite cheaply from amazon. It's a marvelous recording and never loses its appeal!

@moclamrs You are right; The instrumentation was the idea of this music in 1750 !
But the recording has kept all its freshness ( listen to recent interpretations which are so dull... ).

I agree with you. The recordings of Archiv-Produktion were technically perfect at that time
