I am not sure if running in straight should be rammed down every bowler's throat. Since I was 13, I've always had an angular approach to the crease (a la Marshall). I jump in real close to the stumps in my last stride and my delivery is very side-on. It helps me to naturally shape the ball away from the right-handers without compromising on pace or rhythm.
I am still to be convinced that bowling with a straight run-up results in better rhythm and pace. To each his own, I guess!
The only issue I have with this is that the BASE is more important here because the bowler shuts his feet off (crosses over). At higher speeds this will affect his power generation and ability to bowl consistently straight and fast.
one problem i have is accuracy... i'll only get about 2/6 deliveries to go where i want them to (this doesn't mean the rest are wides or off the pitch.. but just not where i wanted them). This is sooo frustrating as a pace bowler. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.
@eurodude9999 well my fellow mate, one way that i teach my negro blokes that i coach, is a speical drill, where you stand in the one spot with an apple and deliver and deliver on the pitch with no movement until you get it right. Then we use lemons and repeat the same drill, repeating it with as many round fruits should do the trick. Hope it works. :)
@yniggay that is a strange drill, but right now i am willing to try anything so i will give it a go thanks mate. Also any ideas on how to bowl just a tad bit faster?
Hahahahaha.... Cheers mate, honestly though... It's pretty easy for you to sit behind your keyboard and say that :) Anyway, since posting that comment, I've found a bowling coach, I've improved the line and length I bowl. I'm bowling a touch faster these days... I'd like to bowl to you in the nets, it'd be quite good.
If you don't have cones you can also do this along side a wall or the side of the nets
