ummm, no. as long as your opponent isn't on the ground and the ref hasn't stepped in, you are not only allowed, but OBLIGED to keep hitting him. it is NOT the fighter's job to decide when the other guy has had enough, that is the job of the ref, the cornermen, and the doctor.

He only retired because Leonard wouldn't give him a rematch...which of course doesn't surprise me. Leonard didn't give anyone a rematch, only got them when he wanted them. But, it probably was better. He has more dignity than most champs who go on too long.

Youre talking rubbish bobbyd7085! As regards to Wilfredo Benitez, lets be honest, Hagler would have eaten him alive. At the time the likes of Sibson, caveman Lee and Hamani, were highly ranked world class contenders. After Hagler had finished with them, they suddenly became bums! Really makes one wonder sometimes.

well...in his retirement address he stated his motivation: he was sickened by boxing. He was robbed of his decision against Leonard. Leonard had flash and style but Marvin was all substance. He retired because it was fundementally unfair to lose that fight.
