  • I feel a bit dumber for having digested Piper's unintelligable definition of faith.

Everyonen knows that the actual definition of faith is the intersection of one's vacatudinal driptide & god's greenable philosofickle which results in a goobalicity of garbalaucitude resulting in the fullfillment of the cosmic pepperippity that surrounds us all.

I'd say that is just as intelligable a definition as John's...wait, I think I meant "just as made up"...yea, that's it.

  • @LetReasonPrevail1- I dont very much like his definition either, A very simple but not compleat definition of Faith would be- TRUST.

  • Faith IS the ASSURANCE of things hoped for and the EVIDENCE of things not seen. Faith must by definition have its object. In the Christian faith the object is God in Christ who is both the one who promises and the one who fulfills the promises. See Abraham's glorious faith testimony in Romans 4:18-21. This should define what the Christian faith is and what it should look like in all circumstances. Faith is also supernatural in its origin and is a gift of God.

  • @timshapiro i disagree entirley.. faith is a choice... faith is a decision to put your tust in something that is unsees.. we see that cleary in hebrews 11:1... faith is rediculous to a culture that is so based on material evidence... if you base your life on only things that are proved by deep evidence like that, your life will remain dead and without hope.

  • @timshapiro it would work for you to you know ;)... but ill leave that up to you.

  • @timshapiro i agree that some things need to be questioned and we need to constantly be trying to qualify our beliefs.. however there is always an element of faith. in religion. but also there is a lot of the bible that is verifiable, and some that isnt.. in the end, when i take the principles taught within the text and apply it to my life, i see change and i see the power of God. call it what you will, but it works.

  • @timshapiro yes your right some christians did and still do burn books. however not historical books, but more so books that they felt were against Christian doctrine.. like satanic books or books on witchcraft. Which as i said are not historical books in essence. but we cannot assume that the books we have are propoganda books. there is nothing that would indicate such things. but once again sometimes all we need is archeology and the bible to confirm history. no other books neccessary.

  • @timshapiro i appreciate your effort to be civil i will say that. but i will say this, terrors of the past have nothing to do with christianity, but instead everything to do with humanity and its constant nature of killing one another. its not a church or religiously driven evil. And yes i agree, the difference between belief and actual knowledge is vast. but fortunatley for us, its something weve been studying for over 3000 years.. so im pretty confident in what we know as a faith.

  • @timshapiro i certainly do believe in global flood not a local flood which is easily made clear through modern science. (at least in theory).. also i am not assuming the bible to be the right book, i am basing that on the fact that much of the bible has been historically and archeologically confirmed. which is more then can be said about many sumarian and ancient texts.

  • @timshapiro actually i have thoroughly studies the norse myth/ the epic of gilgamesh etc and have found major differences. also have you ever thought that a global flood actually happened and that this was how ancient cultures retold actual events? could the genesis acount be the original document? this is not uncommon in mythical history. its not much of a challenge for biblical scholars.

  • many biblical scholars have looked at the so called similarities in the myths and in the gospels.. they hold no water... you should actually read the texts, they are vastly different and not similar at all... Dr white discusses this in detail in some of his videos and destroys the idea. it holds no water. sorry

  • Like what?

  • You made the comment it is myth and legend what do you base your statement on?

  • How do you know it is a myth and a legend?
