  • @GKann Early reggae = ska

  • @60srudegirltrix my absolute favorite reggae artist, first reggae love... i remember when he passed on, I couldn't believe I'd never get to see him live!!!! live on desmond

  • you are the great

  • "Blue beat is the less pussier UK influenced ska." Well! To most people who lived through these eras, Blue Beat was the name of a record label. Most of the music on the Blue Beat label came straight from Jamaica. The link between the eras are the players Mitoo, Tait, Ranglin, McCook, Sibbles. You can hear the same musical sensibility from the early days right up to the present. Shanty Town(Dekker)=Gully siiting (Assassin).

  • Does anyone know the lyrics for this song?

  • This has nothing to do with rocksteady. This is early reggae, very diferent from rs. Not an opinion. An example of rs is '007'.

  • @guspop, Desmond Dekker was mostly Ska, and Rock Steady. This song is to fast tempo to be Reggae, and its not upbeat enough to be ska(IMO).

  • Yes he was a great influential jamacian artist but it gets to a certain point where your ringing yourself out because of monotony and desire. I like the way you feel about the music because at least your someone who actually listens.

  • this is more or less rocksteady, traditional ska has a more:

1-ska-2-ska-3-ska-4-ska, fewer strokes on the guitar and only on the 2nd 4th and 8th note whereas this has it on pretty much every note. and boweewowee is right in the sense that there is no horns which is the second most dominent instrument in Traditional Ska. just like toots and bob, dekker started as a ska artist but went through the rocksteady phase as well as reggae and the shittier digital/reggaeton music.

  • Thanks professor! Now where do blue beat and two tone fit into all of this?

(Desmond Dekker never recorded "reggaeton," btw, and was recording music in the roots styles well into the 1980s)

  • well first of all in my opinion two tone is pussy U.K. music that is more covers than originals. Blue beat is the less pussier UK influenced ska. And i know i was wrong about reggaeton, he never did that shit but he did shit border lining in the 1980's. Digital can't make up for analog and real instruments. 2tone and blue beat don't fuckin matter because it doesn't have the roots. well maybe alittle of blue beat.

  • Man that's hell of cold, basically making the claim that the entire second wave doesn't matter. The Specials, Madness, Selector, English Beat...these are all good bands that made good music, many of whom had strong roots in Jamaican culture. I love roots too, but the Skatalites are making great music when the band is mostly kids who grew up on the second and third wave.

  • I guess that was a bit hasty. I'm not a fan of the specials or selector, English beat had some jive beats and madness had a few good ones. it just brought the genre into an odd "Wet FX" area. And very true about the skatalites. i don't feel 2tone brought much if anything to the music , except for an english accent. all in all it's like trying to listen to a a bunch of peter tosh albums all the way through.

  • who cares wat it is its good music.....loosers

  • I thumbed you up even though you can't spell, because you got taste son.

  • Yup.

  • No wait a sec, skinhead reggae is a part of the ska period

  • sorry i was wrong this is more skinhead reggae

  • Ska? This ain't Ska..this is SKINHEAD REGGAE, and top of the charts for that matter- great post here

  • this is ska bro, skinhead reggae is ska

  • Skinhead Reggae is SKA huh? An unfortunate misnomer created by the 2-tone era (which is neither).

How have I missed that in 20+ years of collecting both?

In any event- great tune, but you need to start checking the dates on your records, and listening for the differences...

For starters- hear any horns here?

I will spare you the rest of the history lesson "bro"

  • Ska ska ska, this is the real thing, old school music, Desmond Dekker the true king of ska! the true old spirit of 69!

  • i´m love it

  • buenisima!

  • This is also a wonderfull son'... so good!... i alwas grin when i listen ta this one... really good one!
