Beautiful. I remember as a kid we would all go in to the house to listen th the radio when this would be on. We loved it,just scruffy kids in Liverpool, but we had taste !Oh yes. Thanks for this. RCAKEN.
This is so beautiful. Placido Domingo sang this in one of his concerts. I thought it so romantic and uninhibitedly passionate then, but when sung by this fresh-voiced girls' choir, it's devastatingly gorgeous.
thankyou rumwa for reminding me of this much loved choir i remember with great affection their very melodic voices and to hear them again brings back wonderful memories and also a few tears to the eyes.i believe a few of the former girls formed another choir in about 2003 called pasque harmony.but hearing them once again transported me back to my childhood in the 50s and the smog of london .happy and innocent days. well done rumwa
They were originally 78s. The LGC frourished from the mid 1940s to the early 1950s, and recorded for Parlophone. There have been LP and CD re-issues of their work.
This was recorded at Abbey Road studios on 20 February 1948: later that day they sang it at the Richard Tauber Memorial Concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Tauber had given them their first break on radio in his Christmas 1945 programme: they were devoted to each other ever after.
This takes me back to my childhood in Luton when I knew a couple of the girls, these are truly angel voices. These are surprisingly clear recordings. I do believe there is a tear in my eye! Johnnie P
Smashing, I can even sing along to this(in private) cause I know the words!!!! well in part! Its so good that rumwa has been kind enough to post this series for us to enjoy and perhaps for others to hear this maybe for the first time and hopefully enjoy.

Rumwa--are these remastered CD's or old LP's? They're a much underrated group.

They are not a group; they are a choir
