For any other creature: multiple 1st person observations, tracks, descriptions of similar behavior and appearance, scat, hair, unique odors, evidence of unique methods of predation, audio, photos/videos, and so on . . . all of this would be accepted as evidence. Somehow, all the stuff that people have been seeing, hearing, and smelling, from 1000s of independent sources, across 1000s of sq miles, and across 100s of years . . . somehow just doesn't count.

It's also been sugested that young males are most often spotted because they're kinda "green" and they may have just left the family group to to strike out on their own, similiar to Gorillas.
