@TaylorSwiftFan1012 You can't judge the intensity of a tornado just by looking at it, it's all about the damage it causes.

A baby could survive an F5 if s/he were in a storm cellar, basement, or just freaking lucky. A baby could also NOT survive an F1 if s/he were sitting right in front of it getting rained on with sharp debris. Survival is more about how you respond to the tornado than the size of the tornado itself.

That is some beautiful footage there. I have to say one thing though...something you don't see enough of in the tornado footage you see on YouTube that is taken by storm chasers...is a discussion about the training that most chasers have. Most of them are meteorologists or people with an education in meteorology and they know what they're doing. I always see these vids and wonder how many idiots on YT with no knowledge of weather will go out and get themselves killed. Just a thought.

That depends on a lot of variables (i.e. how wide it is, the wind speeds, how fast it is moving, the terrain you're negotiating around the twister, visiblity or lack thereof due to rainwrap, etc.). I believe the standard answer, though, is anything within a mile is getting risky.

When my parents found me I was in front of a big screen TV watching the movie Twister. Since that day I have loved storms and Twister is still my favorite movie. :P
