we have a kirby legend 2 vacuum cleaner and a dyson DC14 and the kirby is amazing wen u go over after the dyson we was looky we got our kirby off of ebay for just over 70 pounds it wasnt very clean and now it looks good as new . If u hant got a mirror use ur vacuum lol
A relative had this very model I think abondoned outside once. I wanted to take it home, but I wasn't allowed. That was a long time ago when I was younger.
@landroverkid1 they are ubsurdly expensive new but you can buy a used one that is 15-20 years old for less than 20 bucks. a 20 year old kirby might need a little service but still has tons of life left. i have a 1981 heritage and its still runs great
My legend ll is a 1991 as I can tell due to the many parts that are date stamped and I have seen this same model stamped 1988. These were both 240 volt versions, made for Australia. I agree with the member justkirbys the Ledgend ll was produced between 1988-1991
I think you will find it wasn't. Jack, you're right with the dates for the L2. We got one second hand in 1992 and they were great machines. Here are the dates for Kirby during the 80's and into the early 90's:
My Mom used to have one of those. When my sister used it she accidentally dropped it on her foot and about broke her foot. Whatever you do, don't drop that thing on your foot! Same with the metal Hoovers, those things look like they weigh about the same as a kirby.
I've just weighed one of my 'metal Hoovers', Model 725. It weighed 8kg - in other words, only 0.6kg more than a Dyson DC25 Ball.
Any cleaner will hurt if you drop it on your foot - in fact, I don't recommend dropping any appliance/object/fixture/fitting on your foot, I can't see it ending well.
Ive just bought my first Kirby legend II for £20 with everything and very pleased. But the casing is very tarnished and I spent quite a while cleaning it with silvo with some succsess but looks no way as in good condition as yours any tips?
Looks and sounds almost exactly like my upgraded Classic III. I used the Legend II outer bag, and the 3M HEPA type inner bags. I also put a Kevlar fan on it.
nice legend II! i think this one of kirby's best looking models, i have one that i bought at a swap meet for $35, man i wish i could post vids of my kirby collection!
The only difference is that the switch is at where the power head is and on the other side of the bag it has an extra long hose. They use that to clean their carpet. Wish you could tell me where to get a powerhead so that I can give it as a gift to my cousin.
Hey there buddy, i too have a Legend 2 that i LOVE, and i noticed your model does not have the little green light on the power nozzle indicating that the brush is turning. I find that kinda odd that Kirby did not put them on the machines for Europe.
It does have thwe green light - look at the photo of it at the beginning, after the title. I guess it's just not bright enough to show up on the video!
Yes i see it now thanks man, one question, is this model a 220 volt, or do you have to use a power transformer to convert it from 110 to 220V? Cause it sounds identical to mine. How long has Kirby been in England, ya know this is gonna sound dumb but i never knew that Kirby was ever in Europe till a recent visit to my cousins home in Italy, and she had a Kirby Diamond edition.
It's 240v, all UK Kirby machines are made for the UK current. Export machines are made in the USA in a different factory to the US ones, I think. We have had Kirbys here since the mid-1970's...the first model we had over here was the Classic, I believe.
That sounds, looks, and cleans just like the Heritage II. Just that one is red. Kirbys are great cleaners. I'm a vacuum collator, but i waited 5 years to get a Kirby for a good price!
I grew up with this Vacuum. Used to scare the hell outa me as a kid but I grew to love it. Got rid of it in 2001ish as my mum couldn't carry it anymore.
Ah right - I read differently, but you're probably right. I guess it's possible back-stock of Legend IIs was still being sold in 1991, which might have mislead the info- source I used...too late to change the video now, anyway! Kirbys aren't my area of expertise!
They ask waaaaaay to much money for these new!!!!

Yes, they are - an Electrolux Sanitaire will do pretty much the same job, though, and costs and weighs a fraction of what a Kirby does!

Hi,
Great machine !
I think you will find that model was made from 1988 through till 1991.

So many 'Kirby experts', so many 'accurate production dates'!
I don't claim to know the first thing about them; show me a definite piece of evidence to back up your claim and I'll believe you! :)
