In February 2006, the International Astronomical Union announced the naming of asteroid 79896 Billhaley to mark the 25th anniversary of Bill Haley's death.
Rockers from around the world, please take a ride on the comet's tail to see the milky way!!!
In 06/26/1955, Decca Records announced that Bill Haley & The Comets sold three millions of records in just thirteen months. Rock Around the Clock" and "Shake, Rattle and Roll" sold one million each, "Dim Dim The Lights" and "Mambo Rock", 500.000,00 each.
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America announced that Bill Haley´s all-time classic, "Rock Around the Clock" has been declared the top traditional rock and roll song of the 20th Century.
Bill Haley & The Comets became the first-ever rock 'n' roll band to tour the UK, Europe and Australia. Among those who saw Bill Haley & The Comets perform on their landmark first UK tour in 1957 and who were inspired to start their own rock 'n' roll bands - were future members of: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Hollies, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Rod Stewart and many of the other musicians who formed the British Invasion.
Bill Haley is known the world over as the Father of Rock ’n’ Roll. Haley was the first white artist to combine elements of rhythm & blues, western swing, and hillbilly music to produce the upbeat, danceable, and infectious sound known today as rock ’n’ roll.
Bill Haley the man who brought rock and roll to white audiences, opened the doors for the others rockers. He performed his songs in Europe, South America, Australia, before Elvis, Chuck, Fats, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. That´s why he´s "The Father of Rock and Roll"; "The King of Rock"; "The Ambassador"; "The First Rocksuperstar"; "Mr. Rock and Roll". After he did it, it become easier for the rest of rockers.
It's funny to see this. I believe in this moment, Danny Cedrode would passa away already and they had not a lead guitar player, so Bill is acting as he was the lead guitar on the solo... Thanks for post it, it's a very rare track
it's the first one rock 'n roll song. Bill Haley was the beginner. Elvis Preasly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and all the other started to sing rock'n roll after this song. Bill is the real king of rock.
@1950sTeddyboy Elvis was a country singer/Rock singer. He would do anything they threw at him. Bill Haley was a rock singer. Elvis couldn't play the guitar and never wrote a song worth remembering.
@MrB17FlyingFortress :Don't see Your Point ::Don't Recall Elvis Ever Wrote a Song : Why should he as could take any song, re-arrange it to suit his style then produce the Many Huge Hits he had, that basically sounded nothing like the Original... He could play piano & guitar, but why would he bother. He had Stage Craft that could not be performed with a Guitar..Bill Haley on the otherhand needed the Guitar. Don't think he would look right just at Mic Singing. After RATC He did Nothing of Interest
@MrB17FlyingFortress ::: I am not Rubbishing Bill Haley : He played his part in the Start of Rock n Roll :: But without BlackBoard Jungle Film.. RATC Would have disappeared as it did before the film & never have been the Huge Hit it was & is Still.
But if you care to look it out You will find Bill Haleys Last Hit that was No. 1 for 6 weeks in Certain Country..
I have sent it to friends to Guess Who it is.. None to date have Guessed ::: One Friend Said it was like Music to help you to Sleep..
@rocknroll56able The Friend who said "Music to Make You Sleep" Was No.1 Hit in 19 Countries & Sold 4 million Copies of Record So should know what he is Talking about !!!!!!!!!!! If you heard it You would not even Guess it was Bill Haley if You Listened for a Week after You Woke Up ::: It was Crap ::: A sad last hit for Bill Haley
But then it was Australia : Not sell in any other Country !!
Once again I am not Rubbishing Bill Haley : Just stating Facts
@1950sTeddyboy When clock was released first time it was only a b-side so it didn't get the exposure it deserved. Bill's next release Shake Rattle & Roll became his first million seller and then of course Clock was used in Blackboard Jungle and plugged as an a-side.
A very rare clip! This is from the Milton Berle Show and of course they're lip-synching. Haley has to pretend to do the guitar solo because they didn't have a full-time guitar player (Franny hadn't joined yet). This clip isn't complete, sadly - in the show they completed the song and then they went on to sing an a capella version of the opening which led into a big production number of RATC featuring Berle himself. Great stuff!

This is pure rock and roll. Simple and honest. No synthesizers, no computer enhanced voices, no lip synching or over-done choreography.

@AdmiralCaso :: Bill Haley had first Rock n Roll Record... But it would have died if others had not boosted the Music
Beside Bill Haley was a Band/Group
Elvis was a Solo Singer .... Without him there would not have been the 100's who followed him.
Even today so long after his Death there are 20,000 (Maybe More ) Elvis Impersonators Worldwide
