This song is incredibly I have been listening to this non stop for over 3 days ever since I watched the moon.I am so glad I did..mere words cannot explain the emotion behind this piece.
Somehow losing something you've never had is the most devastating feeling. When the veil of illusion is lifted, to realize everything you've ever believed was a lie - this song fits perfectly. This is the song that made me want to watch the movie.
@SomeOne01123 Isn't that the wonderful part, though? No reason for being, eventually everything you've ever accomplished will be dust. All that matters is making the ride as great as possible while it lasts, for you and the ones around you.
If life has no purpose, no goal, then it loses its limitations. It's whatever you want it to be.
"I want to go home" - When he says that it just hurts to watch and you see the shot of him looking at the earth from the mining rover knowing that he's never actually been home and has never really experienced it but you want him to go there. So incredible
I thought I was going to watch a regular Si-Fi but by the end I was stunned to the core. How this film was not nominated for any category is beyond me!!
Nope... it WAS his, but he lost it when he realized he was a clone. To say they were never his is ain't right. Cos they are exact clones of Sam Bell, but I know what you mean. Could be seen both ways to be honest.
Oh God... An exact clone is still a copy my friend, which means everything he thinks he experienced, he didn't. He never met his wife, he never conceived his daughter, because he didn't exist when those things happened... Clones already exist in this world, they're called identical twins, and they are not the same people.
Thank you very much for uploading this. On my opinion this is one of the best movies in the last years. This track is my alltime favourite piece of music. I even love it more than OST "The Road". Great!! Greetings from Germany
Usually those "sad" scenes in other movies don't really move me, I'd be like "aww that's kinda sad, but whatever, let's move on." This movie was the exception. The scene where (SPOILER!!!!): Sam's in the rover crying reduced me to a mouse. This movie is the saddest movie I ever saw. Really chisels into your deepest emotions and loves and really makes you reconsider and appreciate everything so much more.
It was odd watching the film...I kept wondering why I was sad, but I reminded myself everytime that Sam, the one we know at least...Well, I dont want to spoil anything, but it really broke my heart. A surprisingly touching movie that delves much deeper into the human heart than many other modern movies around today.
Thank you for posting these tracks. The music really is another whole character in the film, underscoring the 'beautiful' tragedy of the Sam Bell clone. Far & away the best film of that year -- or any sci-fi movie since.
I thought of a wife that I've never met, a child that was never mine, and memory that I borrowed from someone else... none of this is real... How can I hurt so much, for something that was never mine.
Everything about this movie is beautiful and awful at the same time. The more I have watched it and listened to this soundtrack, the more captivated I am by them. This song is by far the best song on this OST. (You can't go wrong with a piano and reverb) This movie has given me the hope that good Sci Fi is still out there. It's obvious from the movie and the OST that a lot of love and care went into this. Just beautiful.
Great score and great movie. From the very first moment i've heard this soundtrack i've fell in love with it , can't stop listening to it. Simply brilliant
I would love to have this in an MP3 format. Would anyone be able to convert it to the MP3 format and e-mail it to me at RAPharris@gmail.com This is NOT a spam message so please do not erase.
Beautiful music beautiful movie...just beautiful..that feeling , that longing to be with that person but its impossible yet living on with a hope ..its the same feel i got from the movie A.I where the boy wants to be with his mom but its impossible as hes an AI yet he tries to reach her...
@TheArkFilmGroup The film breaks my heart every time, it's an overwhelming performance, and as for this track, for me it's that central refrain that really hits home
@delltardboy Gerty seemed reluctant to tell Sam the truth at first. "Sam, I can only be held accountable for what happens on the base." This was from the scene where Sam is asking Gerty about the video tapes...or another great example, when Gerty would not let Sam 5 leave to investigate, he had to fake a leak to get out. I think Gerty's epiphany was much deeper then an error in code. I actually agee with most of your points, though i has been a while since watching S.O. havnt related the two.yet
I especially enjoyed the relationship between Sam Bell and Gerty, when Gerty suggests deleting his history, and their final goodbye scene..it was quite emotional. They had been friends for years, and despite being programmed to keep Sam contained and unaware, actually helped Sam seek the truth...Perhaps Gerty had some sort of epiphany but none the less, showed more human emotion then the power hungry corporation that put them there. Amazing movie, soundtrack, everything. Thank you!
@PuckYouMeez it was cuz GERTY was programmed to help Sam and was Sam's "friend" he wasnt programmed to help the company he was only created by them thats why he doesnt listen to the company guys GERTY has a real functioning mind tho hes supposed to be like HAL but more advanced thats why HAL tried killing them in Space Odyssey cuz he was programmed to serve the company and complete the mission GERTY was programmed much differently which was a mistake by the company
The film made me question just what 'real' memories arel. Do we really know that any of our memories are 'real'? Is not the only true reality what we are experiencing now - once passed into memory how do we know anything ever happened? Our memories could all be as 'real' as Sam's.
@spuzmanX ya thats quite obvious i mean Sam 5 (the one whos time was almost up on the moon) his lifespan was over so he was gonna die either way i mean so is Sam 6 tho once the 3 years pass he dies too the clones were only designed to live 3 years
Of course it's just a story, but what is true is that those memories of that young woman and that little baby that we all have are not real anymore, and that you can't go back home because time has passed when you weren't looking and now you are old and alone and can't stand it.
I knew what was coming in that one scene.....when he tried to contact his wife....(Ive seen it before)....and even the second go around I was devasted.....
It's quite touching of how the song relates to the movie. How he left behind a piece of himself on that moon ... and how all he really wanted was to go home. The song puts that in focus -- the man he never really knew that he supposedly was.
the scene where he looks at the Earth in a panaromanic view in front of him, and longs to go back Earth, his home, to be with his wife and daughter... These emotions are what makes us human... Truely a great movie.
Epic. No over done CGI, no over done acting, no cliche monster themes... its as if the film was next to you and I think its something the rest of the film industry can learn from.
also the film brings up the question who we are and what makes you the person you are, the dna? the memories? what if there is a guy with your dna and memories, what makes you special? and so on, touching movie
this is such a deep and powerful film. and now when i'm listening to this track, scenes from this movie come my mind instantly. also the title is genius - Memories (of) someone we'll never know...
this is not a film you forget the next day. this is a film that makes you think, makes you interpretate it's meaning in your own way. this one will definitely always be at the top in the list of my favourite films
@yoblive I agree. I've only just recently watched this film and I was blown away. There isn't one bad thing to say about it and the feeling it gives you from the acting, soundtrack and just the sheer presentation is something you rarely see in other films.
This movie was so simple and beautiful. I love that scene where he is crying in the rover after the call too. That longing we all feel at some point in our lives for some person, place, or thing. "I want to go home."
@greg71579 ya but the weirdest thing is the home he knows he never really knew and doesnt exist anymore cuz hes living 15 years in the past the real sam is 15 years older and his wife is dead now its so strange so even if he got back to earth he would have nothing and that was Sam 5 who made that call so he was gonna die soon anyways because his 3 year life span was over
*SPOILERS* The scene where GERTY tells Sam the truth and his smileyface frown turns into a crying face was so powerful and sad that it stuck with me. When I re-watched that scene, the music of it really hit me. There are very few orchestral pieces of music that make me cry, and since I've never found the piano to be a particularly sad sounding instrument, never before has a piano piece of music made me cry. But this song...I'm bawling throughout the whole song.
Can't believe this didn't even get nominated for a single Oscar category.
Instead 'UP' wins for its dull unoriginal score, which is a generic thirties-esque tune with a solo piano mixed in.
This entire film was a breath of fresh air;superbly acted, original, heartbreaking yet hopeful, intriguing, even funny at times. But no Academy don't nominate the only memorable film of the year!
Instant CLASSIC. I LOVED THIS MOVIE AND SCORE!!! Thank you Duncan Jones, Clint Mansell, Sam Rockwell and everyone involved for creating this amazing work of true cinematic art. That is very rare these days.
In recent years they have been very much on the rise. It shows that you don't need hundreds of millions of dollars to create something beautiful, intelligent and memorable.
I think one of the reasons why this movie is so moving its because it touches male loneliness in a very deep and soft contemporary way. The music especially. Congratulations to Duncan, Clint, and everyone else involved, especially Sam Rockwell.
@steinivalda well... man have a tendency nowadays to be portrait as weak and a "wuss" if he shows any real feelings. Women apparently are turned off by man crying or showing their true emotions. In my opinion, this movie was made by men, to a male audience. In my opinion, one of the reasons the increase in divorce is because women are purposely looking for money instead of true love, and once the rush is gone, all there is is love, and when there's no love left... well there you go...
I can't stop thinking about this film. Just, amazing. Words cannot describe the emotion I felt in the scenes where he trys to contact his wife from the live link, and the scene where he puts the second Sam back into the crashed rover near the end. This film is an underdog masterpiece.
True. It's not one of those action movies where things get shot or blown up, and that works to its advantage in making everything seem more realistic. Very bittersweet.
This song is incredibly I have been listening to this non stop for over 3 days ever since I watched the moon.I am so glad I did..mere words cannot explain the emotion behind this piece.

There are very few orchestral pieces of music that make me cry, and since I've never found the piano to be a particularly sad sounding instrument, never before has a piano piece of music made me cry. But this song...I'm bawling throughout the whole song.

I always remembered that scene when the old Sam sees the other Sam fly off, I really felt like crying.

Low-budget films are the future!
In recent years they have been very much on the rise. It shows that you don't need hundreds of millions of dollars to create something beautiful, intelligent and memorable.

some of my favorite films, even today, are french new wave--a whole genre of time defying films!

S Rockwell´s acting just perfect 2 different people on the stage. Awesome loneliness and sadness. great soundtrack. Film of the year.

I think one of the reasons why this movie is so moving its because it touches male loneliness in a very deep and soft contemporary way. The music especially. Congratulations to Duncan, Clint, and everyone else involved, especially Sam Rockwell.

I totally love the whole lonesome theme to movies and music.

@jatigre1 How is male loneliness different from female? Agree otherwise
steinivalda 1 year ago
@steinivalda well... man have a tendency nowadays to be portrait as weak and a "wuss" if he shows any real feelings. Women apparently are turned off by man crying or showing their true emotions. In my opinion, this movie was made by men, to a male audience. In my opinion, one of the reasons the increase in divorce is because women are purposely looking for money instead of true love, and once the rush is gone, all there is is love, and when there's no love left... well there you go...

@jatigre1 Yes this was a movie done for once that wasn't insulting my intelligence as a man.

@jatigre1 Thats probably exactly why males find it so much more emotional than a female would :O

Not just male loneliness. Human loneliness in general.

@MamboCat84 I think that to a certain degree this is true however the film does depict a pretty harrowing story of male loneliness in specific.

I can't stop thinking about this film. Just, amazing. Words cannot describe the emotion I felt in the scenes where he trys to contact his wife from the live link, and the scene where he puts the second Sam back into the crashed rover near the end. This film is an underdog masterpiece.
CitizenKANE2277 2 years ago 121
True. It's not one of those action movies where things get shot or blown up, and that works to its advantage in making everything seem more realistic. Very bittersweet.
