im pretty sure they are not grenade proof...but I mean really if a tire was more grenade proof then a person make me body armor pleeeze not a damned tire. :)
the reason why this tire is bullet proof is because its got an invisible dragon armor plating around it. Super high tech shit. Then outside of that, its got an invisible Protoss shield around it.
@crazyeyez1502 Again i know, im saying how will ths wheels survive, shrapnel/explosions would rip that wheel apart. air or not, if some of that honeycomb is lost the wheel will collapse.
i had in the way back machine, tubeless tires with a honeycomb deal on my bmx bike and it sucked ass whoever invented these types of tires never drove or rode long term in the vehicle equipt wit em they suck monkee ass, road transfer is brutaly harsh and off road u want to die within the first 5 min of high speeds.tears ur insides up bad!
they must not know humvees have a air regulation system that allows vehicle for easier travel over sand and rough terrain... perhaps a blend of tech is required.
@matt70532 When they say it will be on a Humvee in 2011 or 2012 then it means that the humvees produced in 2011 or 2012 are getting those tires not the ones that are produced in 2003 or 2004 etc.
its not ied proof and grenade proof If thhey were ied/grenade proof the car wouldt blow up and kill the soldiers cause the cars made of tuffer metal then that
Have they been tested on sand?. With pneumatic tires, letting them down to just below half there recommended pressure will improve traction in sand. These hard tires wouldn't be too useful I'd think.. May be good on rock though.
@0gmstuckey I think it really is suitable for a situation where you run over something sharp or there is a shrapnel puncture with an air tire you are stuck whereas with a honeycomb you can get out of the situation.
i would love to know more info about these, i run a offroad club in Wisconsin, and we are always looking for some new product to try out, hows the flex on them and articulation, since we are use to deflating our tires for more traction, and offroad traction(treat patterns), and of course what sizes
they would never bring this into production for the public because they want us to pop our tires so we have to go buy new ones and they make more money
@mattplasse88 idk goodyear, bridgestone, cooper, michelin, yokohama those are just some i can think of that won't take the risk of losing money by selling these airless tires
@boba719 I don't think it would be practical for all street cars to have these tires. They seem to be alittle flat on the bottom which would eat fuel consumption. It would just be practicle for Jeeps and other off roadies. You can take your tin foil hat off now Mr.Conspiracies.Would the tire not wear down over time anyways, then you would have to buy new ones or have them retreaded. Air is free last time I checked and the tire companies don't even possess it.
@stormshockin I know air is free, I was just trying to tell that guy that tire companies make most of their money on tires wearing down as opposed to popping, or selling air(which no tire company does). Almost all gas stations now try to trick you into paying they put up a money taking machine that is like $3 for air but if you go in and ask or in my case I demand it because I think they are asshole for even trying to charge.
@mattplasse88 I try doing that here in SC and they look at me like i'm stupid and don't respond to my demands on the air tank.
I've not had the problem of demanding air in most other states(that i been through) though. I agree though.. the charge for air is pathetic. Especially since improperly flated tires could be a safety hazard.
HAHA i just though of something. Man, I even get into an accident and notice my tires are low, I'm prolly gonna blame on "expensive" air xP.
@stormshockin You can just buy a cigarette lighter compressor for about 5 bucks and keep it in the trunk. Running a compressor cost money and its a simple case of aggregate demand you need air e.g. demand is high and supply e.g. pumps are low thus high cost. Again simple idea eliminate the in-elasticity of demand by simply buying your own pump it ain't exactly nasa technology.
@walperstyle Actually not. I have those same tires on lambo. Works great! Now I can confidently pass cars on the shoulders without getting a flat. SWEET!! One thing though...I usually throw up after 5 minutes driving on those tires. No biggie. Got a nice silk lined barf bag! :)
@SCHMULBACH22 More and more armoured viechles are being fitted with the V chassis. Making it easily possile to survive IED's. Don't be so negative. All i was thinking was wow this is revolutionary and will probably be standard on all domest cars in out lifetime. I guess it's just too hard to please everyone ay.... :)
@SCHMULBACH22 which is why the humvees are fob runners and mraps are used there trickier to drive but i feel alot safer going on the road with then in a humvee
