Let me ask you one simple question: If you knew the FBI was coming to search your home for illegal weapons....and you were given a 6 month period BEFORE they would actually arrive at your house for this search....would you not hide the weapons somewhere ELSE? Forewarning of a search lessens the certainty that WMDs were never there, but it does not therefore mean that they are.

@josbo51715 There was about a 6 MONTH process of widely televised TALKS of imminent plans for sending in weapons inspectors PRIOR to the inspectors actually going into Iraq to look for those weapons. Let me ask you one simple question: If you knew the FBI was coming to search your home for illegal weapons....and you were given a 6 month period BEFORE they would actually arrive at your house for this search....would you not hide the weapons somewhere ELSE? Of course you would.

@tryin2understand The fight against AIDS anywhere is a great thing to do, but it does not excuse breaches of international law. There are many countries in as bad if not worse states than Iraq was before they were invaded, but Bush chose Iraq because of the possible gain. Obama is not getting the stick Bush is because he is trying his best to work an on the go exit strategy, which Bush happened to forget to do. Also, the mass executions of the Iraqis was done by gassing not WMDs.

@sebrussell Gassing IS a form of WMD. WMD stands for: Weapons of Mass Destruction. So ANY weapon that can cause mass death and destruction qualifies. If you're entire town except for a few survivors was killed by a gassing...and you survived, would you not consider that of a WMD type magnitude event? Damn right you would and moreover you would expect the entire country to recognize it as such and you would also demand that the President declare war on those that did it.

If I took a gun and a million bullets and killed 100 people every day for a 25 year regime, that gun is not a weapon of mass destruction. The huge amount of Iraqis killed was an atrocity, I am glad Saddam is dead, but there were no WMDs, just a psychotic sick bastard who used a gas chamber to kill his opponents. Also, they were not dead in the streets, they were buried in mass graves.

@tryin2understand Finally, I agree that if (and I am saying if) Saddam had WMDs, he could have hidden them, but to use your analogy, if the FBI were to give you warning that they would raid your house, then they raided your house, would it then be fair for them to assume that you hid your weapons, or would it be fairer to continue investigations in order to be absolutely sure? Forewarning of a search lessens the certainty that WMDs were never there, but it does not therefore mean that they are.

Fair warnings (in the form of 6 months worth of UN resolutons) gave Saddam ample time to move the weapons...and I am sure he did. Talk about an easy situation that was handed to him! It's like those open book exams in school...or even better: the ones where the teacher gives you the answers beforehand and then expects students to respect the honor system.
