@musicaykay ...you live a lie, you spread lies...with each lie you dig a deeper hole in the ground for yourself. America is a light to the world, Americans stand tall. You spread darkness. Hey Matt, it's hard to believe that 7 years ago today we were in basic training..we all arrived at fort jackson not knowing we would leave as one big family. I am thinking of you, especially on this Veteran's Day! We miss you!! You will not be forgotten...forever in our hearts! (1st Platoon Regulators)
I don't understand how anyone can bad mouth this soldier. Especially draft dodgers from the Vietnam Era or illiterate idiots from 3rd world countries that we will probably have to save. Secondly, SSG Maupin was not some Jessica Lynch. He actually shot back! But I bet you were praying that they found her, huh... Why, she was an idiot. This man is a soldier. Not a hero, but a soldier. Backwardk is right, not polite but right. No soldier wants this attention. But they deserve your utmost respect!!
It was so sad to watch on the news about all the circumstances surounding his capture. It would break any mothers heart to see their son's face in that video.I don't live to far away from where he did. I'm glad that he got to come home. God bless all of them. Bring them home safe
so sad sgt. maupin fall on battle. but what about irak soldiers who get killed? they are human beings too and have families. 50 irak troopers fall per 1 american. Fuck the war!!!
I care about them. Take a history class. The reason Bin Laden hates us is because we bailed on his country in the late 70's and the Russians went back in and massacred them! If it was me, I would be a little pissed too! By the way, learn to spell, you show your ignorance. The country is Iraq and the people are Iraqi's. And I ask you, superior one, why do they need to go to hell? And have you been there? Do you know what it is like? B4 you ask, yes I have been there.Twice in fact. 03-04 & 05-06.
Glad you can be so against something. How old are you, 12? You are writing in English, however not very well. You don't fall on battle you fall in battle. Irak? C'mon, Iraq idiot. And I wonder where you got your statistics. That might be close if we were talking about the republican guard back in 03 till now, but really?? Oh, and the witty saying "Fuck the war!!!". I applaud that. You are definately a scholar of War and History. I want to be an idiot like you when I grow up. Shut up and color.
Matt is a true american hero. You should thank him as well as any other soldier, marine, airman, or sailor that has ever served this country (myself included) for defending ignorant idiots like yourself from posting comments like this. As a veteran, I will say your welcome. idiot
Thank you Matt. All of the soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan are hero's, but Matt died in a horrible way, and his lifew has touched many people. Thank you to the Maupins for all the work YOU have done so we don't forget Matt or Tony Seig or Kenneth Booker or anyone else who dies over there. Once again Thank you Matt, JOB WELL DONE!!!!!
Just know that your right to your recent opinion, and all of our opinions, was granted through the service and sacrifice of America's military personnel in many conflicts in our country's history, popular or not. This video was set up as a tribute to this soldier, not a political diatribe.
You are so smart. I wish I could be like you. And a year ago when this scholarly comment was posted and our gas prices were at an all-time high. How do you figure we went there for gas? Genious. I am glad all of my econ classes lied and you are so smart. I 4got OPEC doesn't control gas prices, the US does. A smart 1 you are. WOMD? Lol. Why don't you get off of your ass and go over there and help find WMD's. Retard. People liek you piss me off. I don't think Jesus fucked a dog. haji's do though.
im joining in about 2 months..just gotta get my GED. i hope one day i can measure up to him..my mom went to his public funeral today. i was supposed to g obut i didnt know she left...god bless matt and his family..
Why did she go? Just to say she went? Did she attend other soldiers funerals in the area? Did she display any kind of remorse for them? I doubt it. He is not any more important than the other soldiers who have died or are serving our country. His family just loves the attention.
How can you say the family just loves the attention? They lived in constant agony for 4 years wondering what happened to their son. Not knowing whether he was dead or alive. I'm sure they would rather have had a celebration for him coming home alive. No, he is not anymore important than any other soldier...but he was still important. Dead or alive he was and is a true hero.
Are you from Cincinnati ? If so you know damn well what I am talking about....Sure his case was different, being he was missing...but Matt was no more important than any other soldier....his family (mainly his father) DID drag this out in the media for all it was worth. His father also failed to attend other soldiers funerals in the area...what a hypocrite. Any soldier would not want this attention.
Matt is a true American Hero. Additionally, I have never seen such an example of strength as displayed by his parents Keith & Carolyn. These are truly amazing people and an example of bravery in the face of the worst fear a parent could ever be confronted with. This ordeal makes me appreciate that much more that my own son came home from the war safely. Rest in peace Matt.

Why is he a hero? What did he do to make him a hero? He died.Yes it is a pity, why did it have to happen, but it did.The heroes are the soldiers that make it back alive.Yes I was in the ARMY,Viet Nam,1970.
SSGT Maupin most certainly IS a hero. He died not on the battlefield from an indiscriminate round, but with his hands literally tied, subjected to the worse fear a soldier can have - torture, at the hands of an enemy who shows no quarter to captives. Judging from the video released by his captors he died like a soldier and a man - not whimpering and begging.
Conclusion RonZig367 - I doubt you actually served in the US Army ... True combat veterans do not display such a petty, whiny ass attitude towards fellow combat vets. In a nutshell - STFU

Again, what makes him a hero?? His death??If a cab driver dies while carrying a customer,is HE a hero? Tell me why you think he's a hero-can't,can you?
ALLIGATORHORSE--I was in Phu Bai VietNam,all of 1971,at the 85th Evac Hospital, working as a medic. I patched up the heroes.I can provide whatever proof you ask.
So how was Canada during the 70s? You had to be there in their army. No Vet would EVER speak that way about a fallen soldier. Granted he is not a hero but he is a soldier. And you, you are a piece of shit. BTW the true definition of a hero: An ordinary person put in an extraordinary situation that has the intestinal fortitude to make it through. But by your definition of a Hero ur one. Since you obviously made it home from Canada and all. -2 every1 else I love Canada I am not bagging on them!
Thank you both for the kind words. It is an honor to serve, and even more of an honor to learn that my fellow brother in arms will once again rest his war-beaten heels on American soil. God speed to all still in the AOR, and to all POWs. "LOVE NEVER LOSES ITS WAY HOME."
God, please bless another of our heros, Sgt. Matt Maupin. Comfort his family and friends so that they are left only with the knowledge of your love and our undying gratitude.
Thank you Matt...your ultimate sacrifice is beyond describing. Your courage and strength is a true definition of your character. I offer prayers for your friends and family. Thank you for all you did for us...rest in the comfort of Christ's love my brother!!
