Matt is a true American Hero. Additionally, I have never seen such an example of strength as displayed by his parents Keith & Carolyn. These are truly amazing people and an example of bravery in the face of the worst fear a parent could ever be confronted with. This ordeal makes me appreciate that much more that my own son came home from the war safely. Rest in peace Matt.

SSGT Maupin most certainly IS a hero. He died not on the battlefield from an indiscriminate round, but with his hands literally tied, subjected to the worse fear a soldier can have - torture, at the hands of an enemy who shows no quarter to captives. Judging from the video released by his captors he died like a soldier and a man - not whimpering and begging.
