My mom makes date, fig and pommegranit challah, I add some honey and wallnuts when I make it. Since my Pastor is Ashkenzi, I will always make him Apple and honey Challah, I got the recepie from my friends who happen to be Ashkenzi. I would always spen Shabbat and Yom Tov at their place as I did not live close to Shul. Calgary's commuity is predominately Ashkenzi, thus I know a lot of there traditions as well. Each mesorah is equally beautiful.

Shanah tovah! I'm Ashkenazi (with a little Sefardi/Mizrachi ancestry way back) but gotta admit Sefardim/Mizrachim (and Middle Eastern people in general) seem to have way better cuisine, not that I don't love my matzo balls (though gefillte fish is disgusting, sorry).

nice, but if you are Jew, you are living in any country, you need to eat the tipical food of this country, there are country without apples, the jews use another fruts...etc. Beta Israel, Yemen Jews, and B"nei Anusim have another food. L'Shana Tobah

Didn't you forget the head? Some use a whole fish or sheeps head (um - uggh) but we use sliced tongue.

My family mixes in kosher Mexican meals with our very traditional Sephardi food (Spanish and Portuguese dishes only), and pastel de tres leches since Rosh Hashanah is also my birthday.

what is pastel de tres leches? My gran used to make pastiles but they were filled with meat. I think leche is milk?
