I love this film so much and the theme music so wonderful , think its better the wuthering hights...jane ayre and the others . always felt so sorry for poor Gabriel who was so patient ....and always there for her .....brilliant movie. :)

Yes tragic scene. I dont like it when shes walking away from the army barracks and Troy and the soldiers are laughing in the warm and shes out in the cold.

It's in the book as well that scene. Shame on them.

Lovely film score by Richard Rodney Bennett. I managed to get this on CD in 2000 but I believe its been deleted. Great movie but the music really defines it for me. Great video btw:))

Thanks for this lovely film. Julie Christie was a perfect Bathsheba. I thought the definitive Tess was Nastasia Kinski, but the BBC have recently made a new tv adaptation of Tess of the D'Urbervilles, which I think was actually superior to the 80's film in capturing Hardy's original epic novel. I'm sure it will be released on DVD soon - well worth acquiring!

What a wonderful video you have created. You have given studio canal a run for it's money. For the third time this company has released this beautiful film in the wrong ratio after stating it as being in 2.35:1. I was one of the first to buy this reissue only to find out it's the same old print.I found your video overture haunting, you have captured the film perfectly. When will we see Far from the Madding Crowd as it was ment to be seen (A remastered print in Panavision format).

I know what you mean regarding ratio format. And it also needs proper release on region 1 DVD. It's such a beautiful film that needs to be shown in its original ratio. It's such an injustice for film companies to release such glorious epics in horrid prints and pan-and-scan. Glad you liked the video, thanks for the great compliment!
