Why not just punch the drywall? Get thinner drywall is you're afraid of hurting your hand... but honestly, Drywall is not that hard to punch through.

@WGSXFrank Yeah, I agree with you. It seems like a LOT of work to achieve what you could have done by just laying into a piece of 3/8" drywall. While remodeling a room, I pulled down a section of 5/8" drywall. I thought, "I've always wanted to try this!" And I proceeded to punch a hole in it. It looked pretty much like Zack's test film. I will say, however, that this technique could be used, with some modification, to make a realistic looking BRICK wall. Now that would be cool!

everyone's saying that you could just punch a hole in a real wall, but often this isn't feasible. You might be at a location other than your own home where putting a hole into a wall would get you thrown out or even arrested, making this a much more intelligent solution. It also doesn't require a stud-finder to avoid breaking your actor's hand... everyone who suggested punching a hole in a wall is a damn moron.

I would keep the tape on so when you punch it you can see all the little pieces still instead of a huge hole. Then your time wouldn't be wasted breaking it earlier.

You should have just scored the drywall without cutting all the way through it, then painted over it to hide the lines so that when you go to punch it, the wall actually breaks apart, but is weak enough to not hurt your actor.
