We used to train our dogs to let us take food from them and not bite or snap at us. Of course they will growl but not bite. My toddler, at the time could do same and no effect. We would ALWAYS give great praise and give the food right back, earning the dog's trust so the dog knew the food would be returned instead of taken away for good. It worked really well, for teaching the dog not to bite the hand that feeds concept. The dog learns trust and respect that way.

This is not normal. A dog should be trained to allow its owner to do whatever they want with the food. Their food is your property. It should not growl at you like that, it's showing dominant behaviour which is troublesome.

My collie did that, it's instinct, I got her use to me moving her food around (we have another dog, if they are even nearly close to each other while eating they fight), I put on some jumpers and let her bit my arm, she is only a collie so it wasnt harsh, after a few trials she got used to me (Not anyone else though, i warn them), it's not something to frown upon when your dog does this, I just did it to make sure the other was safe :D... I wouldnt try that with a g shepard though fuck.

That's food/treat aggression;some dogs do this when you get near them with a piece of food or a treat because they think you are going to take it away.

This is not normal. A dog should be trained to allow its owner to do whatever they want with the food. Their food is your property. It should not growl at you like that, it's showing dominant behaviour which is troublesome.

My collie did that, it's instinct, I got her use to me moving her food around (we have another dog, if they are even nearly close to each other while eating they fight), I put on some jumpers and let her bit my arm, she is only a collie so it wasnt harsh, after a few trials she got used to me (Not anyone else though, i warn them), it's not something to frown upon when your dog does this, I just did it to make sure the other was safe :D... I wouldnt try that with a g shepard though fuck.

I agree, your dog is beautiful, but its only cute when puppies misbehave, this could end badly if someone else comes along. I certainly hope you have not been taking his food in order to get him to act this way, because that means your training him to be paranoid. I don't want your dog to get in trouble :)

Why do people tolerate this shit? People with a tree hugger attitude like - "Oh, its wrong to shout or discipline at your dog" shouldn't even have one! I blame pansy owners for the 100's of dog attacks.
My dog had a food dominance issue - Stood up to him, whacked him on the ass with a broom and has never been food aggressive since. And don't say its "abuse" because its not - I would rather have my face than it being mauled to shreds by a bratty little shit hound.

@TheGaldr Not every "treehugger" is a pansy. This food aggression issue should have been addressed before this dog was 16 weeks old. This is just another example of what happens when you don't take the time to train your puppy. Grown dogs bearing teeth and growling at family members is NOT funny or cute. And yes, its a law suit waiting to happen.

It's funny how everyone thinks this is fine with a shepherd but if a 'pit bull' did this, it would be killed. Hmmm...to me this is not acceptable behavior reguardless of breed. NONE of my dogs have ever done this to me. It doesn't matter if they are eating a big juicy steak or peice of ham--if I want it, I can take it. PERIOD.

Sheesh I guess most of us can agree that it is not appropriate behavior but comments like "I would choke that dog" or "I would kill that dog" are just disgusting.
Shouldnt snatch food away from your pet. If he/she only stays in the yard, isnt aggresive to the other pets and the owner dosent mind then there isnt a real problem.

thats not cute at all. i have two dogs as big as or bigger than that shepherd and i have no problems taking food from them. what if you are out walking and the dog picks up a scrap of meat off the ground. you have to be able to take it away. the dog is the boss not you....

You need to show the shepherd that you're the big dog or else he'll give you nothing but problems. My sheperd would never growl over his food. I'd have my kids walk up and take it away from him to let him know it wasn't ok to act like that.

I have a very very evil dog.He eats sheps like this for breakfast .And would tear apart anyone who would come near his place.But he has a great deal of respect for me because i have for him.And he basically lets me to take his food from his mouth if i ask him.Actually i think he loves to eat from my hands.Why does your dog hate you?It looks like you feed him one a month.....

I had a dog that went like that everytime he thought I was going to take his food. But it was some kind of a game to him. He never bit me and if I really wanted to take his food, he wouldn't even try to seem angry and let me do it. It might be the same thing here.
