Body movement is not that good...but....I would be happy to learn from you. You have been well trained and you will quickly become a master with more group drills, experience and meditation. This is a true gift and contribution to the martial arts community..thank you.
after watching this video a few more times the only criticism I will offer is constructive. You seem to have good dantien power but you need to trust in the power of the dantien and relax your arms a bit. The concept is that of soong. This means structured but relaxed. You know the moves and the applications, you just need time to make the movements more natural. Despite this criticism let me say that I am quite impressed with your skill level and you are qualified to be a sifu.
glad i found this thread six months after the hostilities. Each person with a skill should teach it. there will always be better teachers but that shouldn,t stop you from teaching. internal power is what happens when a well structuered move becomes natural. you don't have to think to do the move right and it just flows. It's all physics. no magic. Physics can be a very powerful tool though. It is possible to generate amazing amounts of force with great techniques.
@silverback7734 Thanks. I am glad that deluded, cowardly, rude and ignorant people are generally the exception and not the norm. Thankfully this is one of the very few times I've ever encountered such a response. It won't be the last, but I have vowed not give give such people a voice on my pages. Some comments should not be dignified.
@dandjurdjevic i have studied martial arts since an early age under some truly great masters and one of them told me that if you know then you must teach. don't let people rattle you. People who spout off about internal power are unaware that this was an idea concocted by chinese poets in an attempt to understand the higher physics and amazing coordination of the masters. Qi (chi) is a generic term meaning energy. The functional term is jing and all jings describe usage of kinetic energy.
@silverback7734 You are absolutely correct about terms such as jing and qi. While I respect many who use such terms, I see them as terms coined before modern science. While they can be used consistently as labels for concepts from physics (momentum, force, impulse, energy) I don't tend to do so. But those who assume some sort of mystical basis don't understand the true complexity and beauty of the internal arts - something that doesn't require a cheap and simplistic resort to "magic".
@dandjurdjevic I was once told that their are no short cuts up the mountain. Their is no magic. Only sweat.
It's right there in the name. Kung fu means time and energy spent, not martial art. Wushu means martial art. Ironic actually. Martial arts can be a spiritual experience when practiced but that speaks to mans capacity for spirtuality rather than some intrinsic power of the art bieng practiced.
@emanresu81 you're probably thinking of bajiquan and piguaquan. There's quite a bit of connection between those two. I made the same mistake a few months ago.
You are weak as piss brother and should not be teaching, you have no strength in your base, and your movements are empty and void of any internal energy my friend....
@dandjurdjevic Well my dear friend, posting for the world to see is going to bring about critisisms you may not want to here... I am just disgusted that you would be teaching at this level, Internal arts, You have no internal power my friend and it is clear that you have not gone through the nessisary pain and suffering required to find it. Obviously because you feel have arrived... But then again your teacher chen yun ching HAS NO BALANCE either... He cant balance even in his own DVD hahaha
@12THEANVIL1 First, I am not, your friend. Second, what I post, I post honestly and sincerely - under my own name and without any claims of mastery. You on the other hand are manifestly a coward; you throw insults and snide remarks from behind a veil of anonymity. The fact that you speak of "internal power" also tells me you are probably deluded. I at no point purport to demonstrate "power" in the above video, but this seems to escape you. Further posts from you will be deleted.
@12THEANVIL1 Your words seem quite harsh. Even if your criticisms about dandjurdjevic are true, is it really so bad that he is teaching? Ba Gua Zhang is a dying art, isn't it good that people are keeping it alive at any level? At the very least this teacher is starting these students on The Path, and who knows where they will end up, or with which teachers they may train with in the future.. Isn't the Tao about being on The Path?
@8triagrammer "Harsh" is one thing. Ignorant is another. And rude is yet another. His words are not worthy of deeper analysis. This is revealed by his comments in relation to my teacher, who is (by any informed person's standards) an accomplished martial arts master as well as a genuine, generous and kind person.
Thanks Dorothy. Master Chen showed a couple of these applications and others are from his "younger brother" James Sumarac, but I must confess the bulk are my own interpretation (albeit based on my stuff I gleaned from my former teacher who studied with one of Chen Pan-Ling's students, Hong Yi Xiang).
I agree with you that knowing applications is essential.
great work Dan

@silverback7734 Thank you for your constructive criticism. You are certainly correct and I am working on relaxing more in my movement. Thanks again.

Is there a connection between bagua and pigua?

@emanresu81 Not as far as I'm aware, other than that they are both northern systems (which are all loosely related).

Thanks for sharing. Knowing the applications is essential, or it is just a "pretty dance."
