One of my favorite players of all time. I love that italian team. When they beat Brasil 3-2 was one my happiest moments ever. Everybody was saying (back then) that Brasil was going to win the World Cup but I was always confident that Italy was going to win it and they made my prediction come true!!!

Spain World Cup '82...I was 7 years your senior. I still remember that game as if it was played yesterday. It was a very exciting game. I live in California and the only option we had during those years was to watch the W.C. tournament on the spansish speaking network. I remember Pele was the color commentator during the broadcast and when the game was nearing the end an Italy was winning you could tell Pele sounded as if he wanted to cry.

@Trulyloyale I am far from the idea to underestimate Rossi, but I wonder why after the triumph in Spain`82 he so quickly went into shadow. There was an explanation that after Platini`s arrival in "Juventus" (exactly after this World Cup) the French didn`t give enough passes to Rossi and the latter had not enough scoring opportunities. If that is true - could it be due to Platini`s egocentrism trying deliberately to outshine Rossi? Later, in Mexico`86 Rossi didn`t appear even for a minute.

@tyzhen I'm 25 so I was not even born when the World CUp 1982 was held, my dad told lot of it , he was a reserve player of Vicenza the 1st club Paolo Rossi started his career in Italy's serie B in the 70s at the time Rossi was playing for Verona mid 80s . He told me Paolo Rossi yet had got 2 surgery operations on knees before Argentina 78 , he played the 1983 season at Top level, but when he had to remove the very last part of his last meniscus, his career suddenly fell down

who is one of Rossi's best friends was known for his irony, sarcastic attitude and nonconformity to ordinary speeching , so he probably meant to provoke Rossi and to make fun of him: Platini has always said he felt more his Italian descent than his french citizenship and still nowadays he uses to say he's italian and not French ( not kiddin', in any interview to an Italian Tv or media he repeats the same concept with a smile on his face ...) !

People also forget Rossi had not played in 2 years and in Argentina he was one of the best knew players in that world cup and not just scoring but setting up great goals like the one against Argentina.
