you know, I LOVE Jeff, but hearing Jay sing it is awesome...it would have been really cool to hear Jay sing it with this treatment...this version is awesome!
this was a great show, West 54th street. Watched a lot of great performances. Remember John Hiatt was the host for a bit, and David Byrne as well. All the great shows get cancelled by the jackasses in charge of the $. Boooooo!
@jdschmelzer Who really cares if they enjoy the music? That's all that matters, whether or not somebody is a "real fan" or not is inconsequential if they can get some enjoyment out of the music.

This is a good song. But for a band that's so otherwise original... did they really have to rhyme "heart" with "start?" It's kinda time to never do that anymore.
@instereovideos This song is original. The rhyme may be overused, but it has entirly different meaning. It is the meaning that will change as we develop greater purpose and values. I like wilco because they do that.
guyyute- you are like a Yankees fan who likes the Yankees because they bought A-Rod. What you are listening to right now is the real Wilco. This is as good as it gets.
A couple months after he got kicked out, Jay Bennett did a show with Ed Burch at the knitting factory, I was only 8 at the time. I saw him before the show, I knew he'd wrote this song and I asked if he would do it. Near the end of his show, he played it and acknowledged me sitting up in the balcony. I will always have a great connection with this song. RIP Jay, I still can't believe your gone.
@segdaas Dude, it's not a competition. It's about making sounds, however you need to make them, making music, whether that passes muster in the universe of youtube or not. Try writing a song like this one, capo or not.
@segdaas Yeah, i used to think that too until i realized that some of the most exquisite sonorities a guitar has to offer, are only possible with the change of scale length a capo provides. Beatles, Petty, Beach Boys, Wilco etc. Americana would not exist without the lowly capo.
well its good. ei paha hiomista viellä piisaa soitto ja äännen kanssa. Kyllä se siitä lohkee..

Jeff has just gotten better lyrically and vocally since Jay got the boot though.
BatteryLeg 4 years ago 5
jay bennet wrote this. he bought me a beer and told me he wouldn't be long with wilco. what a tragedy. him and tweedy were great musically together.
drratlif 4 years ago 5
Yeah, he and Jeff did work really well together. I also do like all of Wilco's material after Jay left, though, it's definitely different.
I'm curious though, what all has Jay done since he left? I'd love to hear something new-ish from him.
PhantomimeFilm 3 years ago 6
He's put a number of records, re-recording this song as well as some other Wilco contributions (Venus Stopped the Train). Google him you'll find it
