nine out of 10 people would put big in their list. this nigga only came out with two CDs tho... QTIP speaks only in contradiction to me. He states that it takes alot of alblums? I believe that Big's success steamed from the fact the world was alittle peaceful(overall), the character the media made him out to be, and the individuals who came up with him. He was a great lyricist dont get me wrong. He was, also, pretty much like 2 pac: a character created by the media used as influence for green.
@The12Jacob Putting eminem in a list with the likes of Nas Rakim and 2pac wtf man? Just because he's white and a millionare? Take away the money and fame and put it down to raw talent! eminem doesent even come close!
@sean60c Saying Eminem doesn't have talent is straight fucking bullshit listen to "Fubba U Cubba Kubba" "Biterphobia" "Infinite" "Jus't don't give a fuck" "Despicable" and try to tell me Eminem isn't even talented he even has a song "Haile's song" where he sings!

he said biggie is top 3 dead or alive but then you need a lot of albums to prove yourself? makes no sense. i fuck with q-tip but ill assume he misspoke.
@RespectProcess He just says that nowadays up & comng MC's need all those albums to reach that level. Not everybody can be Biggie, just a few made the mark on his first album (Nas, BIG, Pun, Jay-Z -guess not any other-). They are the excepcions, that's what make'em so unique and umbeatable.
@RespectProcess this the thing its not like big fell off he died, two, if someone has 12 albums and on those 12 albums 19 out of a possible 216 songs are dope thats kinda terrible wat i admired bout big is the fact that if one eliminates every form of bias, u can listen to all the joints on his two albums and call em classics (except skits), and even a joint like mo money can still be appreciated at clubs today, listen to his two albums, trust me it'll be hard to find a wack verse or wack song
@vishaalnarayan123 biggie is more overated only had 2 albums and lived off one album had beef and died with it one real classic and only called one of the best by east coast
@jayd4ever two classic albums. if u have one hundred albums and only a hundred songs are good, thats terrible, if uve got two in which a lot of the joints on are timeless thats ok for me, i look at quality not quantity, plus its not like he fell off , he was murdered....and q tip is a west coast emcee, and cosigned big......i liked pac too, and jay and em. big wasnt hardworking, he had natural talent, this guy never wrote his songs and cud come up wit such ill shit.

@jayd4ever my bad on qtip's location, for some reason i always mistake him wit dj quik....big did have a bunch of party joints, and tht was on puff cos the main way to dominate the radio and clubs is through those kind of songs, noones gonna be playing nas' if i ruled the world, 2pac's changes, biggie's things done changed at clubs..but he still had inciteful joints especially on ready to die when he wasnt financially stable.whatever the case, big and pac better thn 90% of rappers now

... No Hip Hop, Know Hip Hop. Quit watching MTV and learn to know atleast some real history on the Culture of Hip Hop. This Cat takes it back to 1985 w/ATCQ and changed the game in 1989, so please stop.
i'd put slick rick above the other two personally, but none of them would make my top 5...not taking anything away from any cuz all 3 are incredible for different reasons
Q-Tip has a solid opinion. And there is merit in his choice of top 3 rappers all-time. All 3 of his choices were revoltuionary at the time. Slick Rick was an innovative story-teller for his time...Bedtime Stories was a classic. Plus ppl forget he wasn't American. Rakim's intricate rhyme schemes was new and innovative and still amazing to listen to. Biggie was a fat New Yorker, with a smooth voice, and intoduced the Bad Boy era of production...a top choice for everybody.
given recognition. Major recognition. But then you got guys that can market themselves, make it into fortune 500 and become business men, like Jay-Z. But I classify him more as an entertainer than a rapper/Hip Hop artist. But each to their own. For me it will always be the guys that planted the seeds, like the ones mentioned earlier. But even more so, guys like Pac and KRS. The ones that I really connect with and have left an impact.
@ViceCityVacation well put my friend! I think Jay got off track (just a little bit) with money and wasn't the same rhymer he was back in the day. Now he has a grandpa flow haha
other guys, but he list is far too long too mention. Plus in my humble opinion, they all start to sound the same. But then there is other rappers like the innovators, the real O.G's. Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Kool Herc, Melle Mel, Kurtis Blow, Schooly D, Chuck D, Biz Markie, Brand Nubian. These guys ushered in the era of a new type of music, one that would later become recognized worldwide as a legitmate artform. These guys had visions and foresight. For that, they deserve to be....
transcended boundary lines. Biggie, Big Pun, Ghostface and Kool G all could spin entertaining and inventive stories. Eminem 'could' too and was extremely good at it if not the best but these guys did it first. So by the time Em came round, it had been done before. These guys came out when there wasn't much else out, so they really stood out from the crowd. Then you got Nas, Big L and Rakim. They could as well, but the also wrote about important values and issues in the community. There are....
If Tupac was considered a Hip Hop Prophet, than this guy is a Hip Hop Apostle. Spreading the word and never selling out. That's one thing the both shared in common, staying true to their beliefs and themselves. After these guys, I would have to toss a coin on guys like Big L, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Rakim, Biggie, Ghostface Killa, Nas etc... All these guys are/were super lyrical, but also did something to stand out from the rest during their respective periods. They all had different styles and....
But he would be very closely followed by 'The Teacha' , 'The Blastmaster' , KRS-1. Knowledge Reigns Supreme. And he sure has that in spades. This guy kickstarted the Hip Hop Movement. Name anybody else in Hip Hop history to start an entire underworld community for every artist across the spectrum. From being more than lyrically competent, to raising cultural pride, solitdarity and awareness, to even giving full history lessons in the form of a rap. He's possibly the most intelligent rapper alive
No-one before or since, underwent such a dramatic change or humanity right before our very eyes. No-one. Period. He went from an extremely socially concious, aware, spiritual individual to a completely twisted, traumatized, damaged soul. I mean he has got an worldwide army of followers who believe, or want to believe, he is still alive. That's something usually reserved for Elvis or Marilyn Monroe or Jimmi Hendrix or Bob Marley or Michael Jackson. That's how strongly he connected with people.
this G.O.A.T, top three, or top five list business i always gonna rage on. It all depends on what you are relating it too. Popularity? Album sales? Lyrical ability? My scale, for measuring who is greatest, is overall mark and impact left on the Hip Hop world. Their legacy. I couldn't possibly deny that top honour to Tupac Shakur. No one has tried to do so much more for the community, and was more outspoken. Not saying he was the best lyricist by any means. But what he said, was the most potent.
''it takes alot of albums to be the greatest rapper'' biggie only had 1 released when he was alive and 1 released 2 weeks after he was murdered so q tip obviously knows nothing as he just contradicted himself...
I cant stand Jay-z never could... anything he did before 99 is standard "Money, Hoes and Clothes" mid 90's GARBAGE. Ive like alot of stuff he did in the early 2000's though.
damn ipad cut off my west coast rappers better than Rakim list... Too Short, The DOC (His first album is one of if not THEE Greatest West coast albums of all time) Snoop and Ice Cube
4)Jay-Z (Don't act like his first five albums wasn't the shit)
5)Ghostface Killah
Fuck anybody who disagree. Just because a nigga is lyrical doesn't make him the GOAT. If that was the case Canibus is number 1. Being a MC is about having good albums, being able to perform on stage, being able to battle(I don't give a shit if Ghostface never been in a battle he's the greatest shit talker), and make music that dudes could feel.
A) KRS -1 B) Grand Puba C) Big Daddy Kane D) D-Nice E) Guru (might not be as good but either right with him or slightly below) I was trying to think about dudes that were in the same era as Rakim so the list would be more legit it's hard to compare eras so I'm thinking about guys that were right alongside in his time and place... I even left out West Coast Rappers because styles are so different... But if I were to include West coast Rappers than TOO SHORT would be on that list of rappers bett
@blackplaque617 WTF are you talking about? Did I say any of these young cats were better than rakim? I like rakim... I'm just saying he is Over Rated. 5 MCs better than Rakim are (in no particular order) A: KRS-1
In my opinion rakim is way over-rated... And tupac is The MOST OVER RATED RAPPER OF ALL TIME... Again people fall in love with the tough guy bullshit for some reason. Tupac's shit was weak as hell
@disnukka79 You are absolutley right about KRS being the greatest of all time. But Pac shit wasn't weak. Listen to Me against the world, he not a punch line mc, he's a poet. He's the only rapper who actually use poet techniques in his music that goes unnotice. And give me five MC's that are lyrically superior to Rakim. These young cats don't even rhyme tough no more, WTF are you taking. If u considered singing to bitches and dickriding yourself as tough, than your a very soft ass nigga.
KRS 1 nigga was bad as shit and undisputed for a long time... Lotta young cats have forgotten... that's because he never really spit that tough guy shit... It was all about knowledge and awareness and Afrocentric pride. Shit that's not in style today... But back in the day you could spit about anything as long as it was fire... Now all anybody rhymes about is that tough guy bullshit...
In terms of lyrical ability I think the greatest are 1. Biggie (excluding his second album, which I thought was unremarkable) 2. Eminem (the old Eminem, not the new one by any means) and I don't have a number 3 because that's up for debate. There's a lot that could tie for number 3. But to me Biggie and Eminem stand out, lyrically. The reason I pick those two are because they are the only two that have literally STUNNED me with their rhyming ability.
@twright778 Too True. 3 would be between Nas, Jay Z, Immortal Technique, Diabolic, Cannibus and.. Rakim. Eminem I think should be 1st. His flow is superior to biggies.
rapper define rap first then recognize what q-tip is saying meaning know the rappers he's talking about, so not to be disrespectful but biggie does not fit that category the way the other two do, so i respect the first two, but biggie com'on just because he passed away and all the world loved his music do to the controversy you still have to be honest with yourself, biggie cant be in that list unless you only know 10 hip hop musicians if you ask me, no disrespect just speaking honestly
@guru1988510 its like saying name your favorite black rapper, and you add a black albino that really looks white, now yea maybe he understand the pain, but if is not subject to the pain that his normal fellow men go through then it just don't make sense, well to me at least, now lyrical falls under rapper, but its like saying the best basket ball playing is the player that never scored, he could block all the shot i dont care but if he is not on both side of the court some how cant be best
@guru1988510 Krs should be in that top 3. We get what you're saying, but Biggie was a hit machine! Obviously it's my opinion against yours but so many people love him for a reason.
@TheFakeAssGangsta1 i agree with krs one honestly on my list he would be the first one, he's commercial in a wicked way, he keeps it real 100%, and write books, how real is that, i think for the west cost i would put ice cube on that list, but he is not half of krs one, but the west cost as far as major artist aint got shit, really they all fucked up and im from cali, so when i look at it in those terms, ny is good, but if you add dead i think 2pac is 90% of krs 1, saigon is whats happening now
@twright778 are you kidding??? Slick Rick is one of the greatest MC's to have lived, his storytelling skills are ill man, did you hear "Children's Story" and "Indian Girl"??? and you can definently tell Q-Tip is using Rick's style man.
My top 3 is Rakim, Nas, and Royce Da 5'9. I have not bought anything on Eminem he doesn't say anything in his lyrics for me to learn, and he talks about his personal problems, hell I got my own. plus his music is to dam dark! There 's no light to it.
Anyone who doesnt have tech n9ne in their list shouldnt have even posted. Sorry.

GuerillaBlue34 4 months ago
other guys, but he list is far too long too mention.

ViceCityVacation 5 months ago
No-one before or since, underwent such a dramatic change or humanity right before our very eyes. No-one. Period. He went from an extremely socially concious, aware, spiritual individual to a completely twisted, traumatized, damaged soul. I mean he has got an worldwide army of followers who believe, or want to believe, he is still alive. That's something usually reserved for Elvis or Marilyn Monroe or Jimmi Hendrix or Bob Marley or Michael Jackson. That's how strongly he connected with people.
ViceCityVacation 5 months ago
this G.O.A.T, top three, or top five list business i always gonna rage on.

Top Five Greatest MC's
1)KRS-ONE
2) Tupac Shakar
3)Nas
4)Jay-Z (Don't act like his first five albums wasn't the shit)
5)Ghostface Killah
Fuck anybody who disagree. Just because a nigga is lyrical doesn't make him the GOAT. If that was the case Canibus is number 1. Being a MC is about having good albums, being able to perform on stage, being able to battle(I don't give a shit if Ghostface never been in a battle he's the greatest shit talker), and make music that dudes could feel.
blackplaque617 6 months ago
A) KRS -1 B) Grand Puba C) Big Daddy Kane D) D-Nice E) Guru (might not be as good but either right with him or slightly below) I was trying to think about dudes that were in the same era as Rakim so the list would be more legit it's hard to compare eras so I'm thinking about guys that were right alongside in his time and place... I even left out West Coast Rappers because styles are so different... But if I were to include West coast Rappers than TOO SHORT would be on that list of rappers bett
disnukka79 6 months ago
@blackplaque617 WTF are you talking about? Did I say any of these young cats were better than rakim? I like rakim... I'm just saying he is Over Rated. 5 MCs better than Rakim are (in no particular order) A: KRS-1
disnukka79 6 months ago
In my opinion rakim is way over-rated... And tupac is The MOST OVER RATED RAPPER OF ALL TIME... Again people fall in love with the tough guy bullshit for some reason. Tupac's shit was weak as hell
disnukka79 6 months ago
@disnukka79 You are absolutley right about KRS being the greatest of all time. But Pac shit wasn't weak. Listen to Me against the world, he not a punch line mc, he's a poet. He's the only rapper who actually use poet techniques in his music that goes unnotice. And give me five MC's that are lyrically superior to Rakim. These young cats don't even rhyme tough no more, WTF are you taking. If u considered singing to bitches and dickriding yourself as tough, than your a very soft ass nigga.
blackplaque617 6 months ago
@disnukka79 pac isnt the most overated biggie, lil wayne, eminem and many more are very overated pac proved why he was one of the best
jayd4ever 2 months ago
KRS 1 nigga was bad as shit and undisputed for a long time... Lotta young cats have forgotten... that's because he never really spit that tough guy shit... It was all about knowledge and awareness and Afrocentric pride. Shit that's not in style today... But back in the day you could spit about anything as long as it was fire... Now all anybody rhymes about is that tough guy bullshit...

Bachilles38 6 months ago
In terms of lyrical ability I think the greatest are 1. Biggie (excluding his second album, which I thought was unremarkable) 2. Eminem (the old Eminem, not the new one by any means) and I don't have a number 3 because that's up for debate. There's a lot that could tie for number 3. But to me Biggie and Eminem stand out, lyrically. The reason I pick those two are because they are the only two that have literally STUNNED me with their rhyming ability.
twright778 6 months ago
@twright778 Too True. 3 would be between Nas, Jay Z, Immortal Technique, Diabolic, Cannibus and.. Rakim. Eminem I think should be 1st. His flow is superior to biggies.

rapper define rap first then recognize what q-tip is saying meaning know the rappers he's talking about, so not to be disrespectful but biggie does not fit that category the way the other two do, so i respect the first two, but biggie com'on just because he passed away and all the world loved his music do to the controversy you still have to be honest with yourself, biggie cant be in that list unless you only know 10 hip hop musicians if you ask me, no disrespect just speaking honestly
guru1988510 7 months ago
@guru1988510 its like saying name your favorite black rapper, and you add a black albino that really looks white, now yea maybe he understand the pain, but if is not subject to the pain that his normal fellow men go through then it just don't make sense, well to me at least, now lyrical falls under rapper, but its like saying the best basket ball playing is the player that never scored, he could block all the shot i dont care but if he is not on both side of the court some how cant be best
guru1988510 7 months ago
@guru1988510 Krs should be in that top 3. We get what you're saying, but Biggie was a hit machine! Obviously it's my opinion against yours but so many people love him for a reason.
TheFakeAssGangsta1 6 months ago
@TheFakeAssGangsta1 i agree with krs one honestly on my list he would be the first one, he's commercial in a wicked way, he keeps it real 100%, and write books, how real is that, i think for the west cost i would put ice cube on that list, but he is not half of krs one, but the west cost as far as major artist aint got shit, really they all fucked up and im from cali, so when i look at it in those terms, ny is good, but if you add dead i think 2pac is 90% of krs 1, saigon is whats happening now
guru1988510 6 months ago
