  • @08hosavp They just put out Codes And Keys in May of last year.

  • Death Cab was so awesome! Wish they were still making albums

  • @08hosavp they are?...

  • please rebuild the sound is not so good

  • hate to break it to you all but that's not autotune; that's pure, natural talent, and Ben Gibbard is full of it.

  • whats this thing that ben's been doing lately with the weird vibrato with his voice? anyone else notice that?

  • Wish I was that microphone :)

  • this is the first time ive ever heard this song. I just listened to it three more times repeatedly

  • @yanx9998 - You live on the moon then?? Just messing with ya - welcome to life

  • seeing them live august 15th!

  • Perfect.. One of the few bands that can match the album/studio sound live.

  • @Chubzdoomer There are many bands that can do that, some even sound better live, they're just not on the radio.

  • I'm seeing them live tonight! <3

  • @LoveAnticCafe16 lucky guy!

  • @radioheadicta Girl. :| But thank you! They are absolutely incredible live.

  • 1 person doesn't comprehend great music.

  • or dvd^^

  • @Traumweltleben can i buy it on blue ray anywhere?

  • Its not autotune people its just a reverb effect. Im certain some sort of vocal effect is on the studio version too... it just gives it a spacier sound to make it sound so fucking beautiful with the music... watch the summer skin video from this set it suits that song much better

  • @Jfoster1231 really thats nuts

  • These are the next Beatles

  • one of the most soothing videos ever.

  • This is one of my favourite videos ever I think. It is always the quietest, most unassuming ones that kick the most ass, I'm looking at you Chris Walla.

  • only two months left and I see them here in berlin !!! i will be one of the best concerts ever ♥

  • good, good, good

  • I can't wait to see them live. It's going to be the best day of my life, guaranteed.

  • Chris Walla is just adorable.

  • Holy crap!!!! What a beautiful performance of a beautiful song!

  • At 1:01 the bassist's head jerks around and it looks very funny!

  • at 3:15, Chris plays the same melody on the piano as the Tegan and Sara song, Back in your head. (Yes i know he recorded them) Just thought it was funny.

  • @mustangsally14 Oh my god, it's TRUE!

  • it isn't autotune there's reverb on the vocals and like in most other live videos his voice does those little jumps and the reverb makes it sound autotuned, i know it sounds farfetched but it happens when i sing live :')

  • why does everyone on these death cab videos have to bring up autotune? just stfu and listen to this amazing non-autotune music!

  • @Hannover1980 woah calm down there! arguing on the internet is like special olympics! even if you win, you're still retarded.

  • @amazingvideoman2 ... Touche! "A hit! A very palpable hit!" Nicely put.

  • absolutely love death cab but definitely used autotune....:/, go to 3:10...........nobodys perfect?

  • wow i got goosebumps from that... that was fuckin amazing

  • did he lose weight????

  • Buen tema

  • hahahaha ahhh the black sheep disliker lol if only you know how terribly alone you are in this world!!

  • What the hell Nick! :D

    1:01

  • The "autotune" that people are hearing is a combination of a shaky voice and a short-delay on the vocals.

  • @TheActualActuals Yeah, he is really banging his foot on the ground; you'd only expect that outcome! haha

  • 3:15-3:18 "Back in your head" by Tegan and Sara

  • @Dkolps and i didnt even realize, he worked on that record with tegan and sara. coincidence?

  • WHO IS THE ONE FAG WHO DISLIKEDTHIS????

  • amazing bass player, amazing key, amazing band..

  • 3:14

    tegan and sara's the con

    :D

I bet he enoyed himself working with them

  • @sergiowako

actually, its Back in your Head,

    close though same album

  • Zack Galifianakis on bass!!!!!

  • @aguadololo

and Greg Graffin on drums! :-D

  • @aguadololo

    Nick Harmer is king.

  • @aguadololo .......and john fogerty on lead vocals...)

  • WIN

  • he looks better with shorter hair but he is still an AMAZING singer

  • if you can't see he is kind of bouncing up and down while he plays. so that's obviously what is making his voice shake guys. No autotune.

  • bass player is dope =]

  • bass player is dope =]

  • wonder at 1:18 till 1:31 !!

  • Comment removed

  • his voice is just wonderfull

  • Lol. Is this autotune argument for real? Echo + shaky voice + miss matched audio formats in encoding = sorta different sound. Lol

  • Let's not worry about how he sounds live or how he plays.

Let's just listen to how amazing this song is.

  • i dont think ben knows how to smooth out his voice while playing guitar or keyboard,

thats hard to do and he dosent seem to take enough breaths if you listen to the recorded music i swear you can hear him taking large breaths at the end of every line

  • @antiemo666777 they are using autotune, thats where there is so much jumping between notes. i thought the same thing you did.

  • @MILZMUSIC You could not be more incorrect. There is no autoune here whatsoever.

  • @STEVeUNIX dude do u hear his voice latching to notes and then suddenly shifting to 3 different notes in a second? anyone who works with pitch correction or auto-tune should notice a less than subtle pitch correction when it's applied. not all auto tune sounds like 't-pain' it's a simple studio standard that death cab obviously brought to the stage. owl city does the same thing.

  • @ETHANIOSAURUS I know what his voice sounds like. None of the other Death Cab performances sound like this one. His shaky voice sounds very nice and nuanced in the other ones, but because the producers slapped autotune on this one it sounds very wobbly and digital.

I'm not accusing Death Cab for using autotune, I know they are against it and it was probably added by some ignorant producer for the show who uses it for everyone.

  • It's definitely not autotune. Considering they are apart of a society against Autotune if I'm not mistaken. His voice is shaky because he's moving about a lot, and as time as gone on, his voice is increasingly shaky, as you can see in other videos. He's still a genius of course.

  • To all of you "tone connoisseurs" out there that insist "I know autotune when I hear it", you're pulling shit out of your ass. There IS an audio problem on the vocals in this concert, but it isn't autotune. There are two mixes of Ben's voice; one is the dry mix and the other sounds like a delay. The delay is what is throwing most, if not all people off. It's very warbly and there is definitely something wrong with it. It's surprising the sound guys let it slip.

  • I miss Ben's old haircut...

  • shame the producers of the show added autotune after, his voice sounds fine without it...

It is autotune people, it doesn't mean dcfc wanted it added. I know autotune when I hear it.

  • I don"t think tere's an auto tune effect too.

But auto tune can be very good, when it's well used.

  • also, when your mouth isn't right on top of the the microphone (practically making out with it) the volume changes dramatically depending on where your mouth is with respect to the position of the microphone. for someone like ben, his movement produces part of the shakiness. the slight reverb and delay effects on the live mix of the vocals adds to it. Also, when music is streamed over the internet, there is a slight "warble" effect on the sound at times.

  • @kurtsbyotch hayley williams is also a beast at singing - ben gibbard is a songwriting god. two different things. both = awesome

  • you are so goddamn stupid.

  • its either one of 2 things: ben is singing really low when he has a high voice so it sounds weird, or the most obvious is that in the description it clearly states that it was re-uploaded for better sound, which means that this video has sound problems. death cab doesn't use auto-tune they have actually publicly made statements against auto-tune so give it up people.

  • Indeed, and screw the autotune, DCFC is pure original sound. The shaky voice is because he dances up and down while singin', try it at home folks.

  • @SMELLYSCHLONG it's not like that in any other videos of death cab except for these ones... the producers of this show clearly put autotune afterwards. Which is a poor choice, because his voice is very naunced and doesn't need it, he's a good singer.

  • It's funny that people assume that because his vocals are so good that it's an autotune. That's how Earwashed people are because of the fucking shitty radio. What an absurd assumption towards such an organic band.

  • Its not autotune! the reason why Ben's voice sounds so tremoloy is cause Ben keeps shakeing and bouncing his body around during the perfomance. He does that a lot, he dances around when he performs.

Hell I even do that when I perform, I guess its a habit us musicians have. Its how we feel the music in us when we play. We feel the energy and the intensity of the song, and we just start moving around without even knowing. its how us musicians feel when we play and perform.

  • @PunkIsNotDead94 just thought i would point out that hayley williams of paramore can jump and keep a solid tone going, so i don't know its possible to move around and not have a shaky voice, not sure what the reason is but its whatev i still <3 DCFC

  • Its just a tremolo effect on his voice.

  • I would sell my soul to see them live ♥_♥

  • @ViraRocket ill give you a dollar.

  • @ViraRocket saw them live in newcastle a few years ago......awesome :D

  • @ViraRocket you might try ticketmaster first ;-)

  • Haha imagine Nick yelling "This is Sparta" during this set.

  • THAT WAS AWESOME

  • I dont get how this band isnt much bigger than they actually are. They have great music, unique composition, great singing, deep lyrics...it baffles the mind how no talent people are making it big while real musicians arent.

  • @crazymind Well, it doesn't really boggle the mind because most consumers of music sadly aren't interested in all the great qualities mentioned. It has been this way forever, and will continue to be, so let's just be happy that we are lucky enough to find bands like these, hm?

  • @pepperleg Partial blame has to be sent to the idiots who singed these sad excuses for musicians. But i disagree....it hasnt been like that forever. Back in the 60's the Beatles WERE music. And that was amazing. And in the 80's great music was everywhere. Basicaly when stupidity like SPears and boy bands showed up, thats when things started going downhill.

  • is this typical of an american crowd (assuming it is in america, cos if so that's shit!) what a terrible crowd

  • @harryspoonpotter ... tell me about it, i would have been moshing

  • @harryspoonpotter no this is definitely not typical of an american crowd who is really into their band....its prolly a bunch of ppl who didn't really want to be there

  • @harryspoonpotter

I don't see how any one could mosh to death cab for cutie....This isn't really the band one would jump around to :S

  • @3:18 T&S's Back in your head?

  • Amazing

    Absolutely amazing

    :O

  • WTF do u mean by that????????????

  • Comment removed

  • I'm in love with this shit.

  • love

  • why doesn't chris sing in more songs???

  • Amen. Not only that, but the vocal harmonies are beautiful.

  • I love Chris at 0:43 xD

  • 3:46 :)

  • haha he's so great xD

  • muppet

  • Their bassist annoys the hell out of me, but this concert is pretty damn great, especially considering I've never respected them musically till I saw this.

    Cheers guys!

  • Why does he annoy you? The beard? haha

  • Why does Nick bother you? Is it the perfectly syncopated basslines or his enthusiasm to be playing in a tight, close-knit fucking band?

  • The shakiness may just be poor encoding. I remember the performance on T.V. sounded flawless. In fact, I wasn't even a fan until Soundstage...now I love them.

  • theres no auto tune, the vocal range in this song is very low for him so it sounds weird because his voice shakes a little. Try singing consistently in an awkwardly low range and you'll see

  • this is a perfect concert except the crowd pisses me off. Half of them are just standing there....if I were there I'd be moshing

  • moshing to what?? Do you mosh at DMB concerts aswell?

  • well first off you can't really compare DCFC to DMB...and second I was exaggerating. they do have a few songs you could mosh to such as "We Laugh Indoors" tho

  • Am i the only person who hears a lot of auto-tune in this set?

  • thats not autotune, thats a shaky voice, death cab and autotune dont mix

  • @BuffaloSinners

It's definitely autotune, I doubt as much as I love them they could get the harmonies that bang on.

  • @BuffaloSinners if you hear closely at 3:14 you can hear that classic autotune sound

  • @BuffaloSinners Uh, no. You're deaf if you can't recognize the signature timbre of autotune. They probably could've gotten away with it if they had used a little less, but no, this is glaringly obvious.

  • @BuffaloSinners I'm afraid thats either a problem with the sound recording itself or a very very badly set autotune. Great band nevertheless. To be honest he probably doesn't need autotune but is forced to under the bands contract.

  • no don't worry there are more uneducated people like yourself that hear it too

  • chris looks so adorably awkward singing.

  • is that ben?

  • oh ya thats ben.

  • beautiful just beautiful...

  • greatest song ever

  • Perfect song!
