Welcome back to YouTube! I miss your emma on relationships videos. Good luck with your startup. I'm looking forward to seeing what it is. My guess: you're building robotic Captain Janeways with mad BJJ skillz.
good luck with the start up hun. Dont let your gender or other peoples preconceptions hold you back from doing anything. remember that 10/20 years down the line your industry will look very different. Your a trail blazer!!;) Good to see you back, keep it up...
I would give you words of encouragement but that would be silly since you are probably smarter than me. I only know little programming and wish I did that rather than finance.
There are definite downsides to programming also. I suppose one thing I like about it is the potential for independence - many people work as contractors and stuff even if they don't try to stat a company. But it's definitely frustrating at times having to work with a lot of stuff many other people have produced, not all of which works.
Try it out if you want, but you know the grass is always greener or whatever.
Ya but the worst is when you're tasked to produce something from scratch and it takes a week and then they complain that they could have just bought it "off the shelf" for half the price. And ya working with somebody else's garbage and then you get reamed for your app not working as intended, but yet you were told to use this piece of garbage library that doesn't work right by the same person reaming you. We programmers put up with such shit from people its ridiculous.
I did some contracting for a major bank, and I incorporated myself for tax purposes so I could also start a business later. The big problem is a company won't take you seriously if you only have 1 or 2 staff. But if they hire somebody to design and code something they think is simple, and essentially severely adding complexity, .. They expect so much for so little, it really takes a programmer to appreciate the work. But they seem to think if it'll take a month then they want it in 2 weeks.
I mean, they want something simple, then they say "oh while you're doing that, I also want to be able to do this.." because they think its just a simple change, but they keep asking for semi-complicated changes and tack on a dozen extra things to your "initial contract" with them that would turn a 1-month project into 6+ months with a staff of 4 instead of just you, but still expect to pay you for 2 weeks as a staff of one.
Wow you're hot for a programmer. A lot of programmers condescend other programmers, I've seen it at many jobs, it has nothing to do with sex. Even I run into people who want to believe their super-gods of C++ or something, but they always end up coming to me for help. If they have a problem respecting you, be a haughty hottie. And you could also wear a neckscarf on your next client meeting so they have less skin to look at. You could wear a wedding band, it might help.
Ha - I don't think I quite have the C++ superpowers to act arrogantly. Actually, that's a language I'm quite glad not to be messing around with any more (I'm using ruby with my website). I suppose you get more hardcore points than me for being awesome at it.
I have a buddy whom I grew up with, and we both did assembly on a C-64 when we were kids. He never had any idea how good I was because he is self-centered, and when I surprise him constantly with feats of code or knowledge, he's condescending about it. And I've seen his work, its nothing interesting. And I'll talk about writing a socket encryption library which I did and I spent a few weeks on it because it was fun, and he's like, "oh ya I can do that in 2 days" without knowing what I put in.
Its good to see you do a video after a long hiatus. Good luck with your business that you and your mother are doing together. I'm actually in IT school myself, but since you are a graduate from MIT, I would like to ask your opinion on a program that I am trying to develop.
Thanks! I don't know if I could give a particularly valuable opinion on any program you're writing - I don't think going to MIT made me a better engineer than many of my friends who went to different schools. It may have made becoming one a lot less fun though.
how far did this company with your mom go? would you say it was successful?

Make it regular, homey.

It is asinine that someone would not believe in you. To this point in your life you've given no reason to doubt.
Best of luck to you in your start up. I'm positive it will be a resounding success.

I fixed bugs for a software company in C++. I also admit
I was a little vague about what I was doing - I'd rather show it than talk about it. When it's ready I'll give a link.
