The reason of the captain said "nose down""nose down" at that moment is they want to accelerate to get enough airspeed to pull up over the montain.

He also said "power!"."flaps up" for the same reason.

but they failed.

220 knots is not a good speed for a 747 to meintain its altitude.

The crew did nothing wrong at all.

And after that accident, the simulator shows that no crew can hold the plane 32min in air in the same situation as the did.
