yes yes this rig is old. By todays standards it fits in the mid range spec.
I see too many people raving about the i7 and how it kicks my QX to the dirt but the fact is unless your benchmarking or rendering you aint going to notice the difference. Whats holding my system is my 8800GTS, no amount of overclocking can bring it par to my QX6700 and I have had it overclocked upto 3.5ghz with 8gig ram when i used to watercool my systems.
No it wouldn't. This is a low-mid-range gaming PC by today's standards, where the 9800 GTX+ barely cuts it, and the GTX 260 is standard (which is more powerful than two of this guy's cards in SLI).
Low-range. Now that's your score for a gaming rig; for an everyday PC, I'd give it a 7.5 (max; grandma knows the difference between a dual-core and a quad).
It all depends on your cooling method, the other components (especially your PSU). If its your first time overclocking your CPU then you will need to burn it in (100% CPU usage for at least 12 hours) to ensure its stable at its default. Be aware that overclocking can invalidate your warrantee and damage parts. Max overclock on air would be upto 3.8Ghz but thats pushing it, 3Ghz would be a safe bet with increased v-core.
Stability all depends on if your other hardware can tolerate it as the increased heat easily creates errors. You will notice this with BSOD, crashes, freezes, sluggish performance, game corruption. Take it one step at a time and constantly check your tempreatures at idle and load. If your CPU becomes too hot then it should throttle or shut the PC down, which happened to me when my pump failed and the water stopped circulating.
Dude, you know what sucks? In a couple years the new rig I'm making will be almost obsolete. Technology is moving too fast for me, I can't make that much money!
I agree with you 100% but with the Qx6700 and 8800 GTS, GTX OR Ultra GPU's your System will be a god for a long time.. I will give it 3 or 4 years when you SHOULD upgrade..
Running Vista 64bit for a while now. Apart from the memory head its similar to XP in performance, except for games which run slightly lower in fps.
The score I get is 5.5 = CPU 5.9, Ram 5.5, Graphics 5.9, Gaming Graphics 5.99, HDD 5.9. 5.9 is the highest score you can get in Vista until they increase it when faster hardware comes out.
The only hurdle with Vista 64bit is some of the applications I used in XP won't work so I have had to find alternatives.
To ZapperJet. I run multiple CPU intensive apps at once not just one giving me a more versatile system. Just try to play HTPC HD content on a 1080p LCD, play the latest PC games, render videos all at the same time, something will give up.
Oh and my decision to go quad-core was so I wouldn't have to worry about it for the next 2-3 years, Thinking 3 years ahead what would you wish you choose? a X6800 or a QX6700...(Both the same price)
The other thing is how much did all ur watercooling cost because im going to buy 1 and rig it upto my comp but im wondering are all watercooling kits capable of fitting to all motherboards and cpu's? as i currently have a socket 754 and ill be upgrading to a socket 940 am2 if you can get back to me thats cool.
nice rig heres a question for u i have a liquid neon what is like a neon looks like lightning in a tube well is there a way i can make it sound active ? because i know i can make a standard L.E.D flash by wireing it upto my sub speaker and everytime the sub kicks in the led flashed but when i tried wireing up the liquid neon to it well it didnt work is there a way round this?
Might I suggest dropping $25 at an auto parts store for a worklight? I had to turn my screen's gamma all the way up to see most of the video. Some cable wraps might be a good idea too.
Dude you should have gotten a GTX rather than OCing the GTS. BTW at least straighten out your cables, it's messy as hell. Plus corsair RAM would perform better than your RAM. I've never even heard of that kind of brand name RAM. Look at maxishine's rig and you'll know what I'm talken about. Peace.
AgentSmith2K, I am interested to know what danger den mix (complete name list please) that you used for your cooling since I am getting the exact same case as yours. Also I would like to know the max given HDD space the 750gb outputs. My 320 gives like a 298.
Over the next few days i'm going to be altering the cooling layout. Currently the radiator I have cannot cope with the amount of heat produced from the QX.
With all 4 cores on load the temps sore upto 80c and with the drives taking the heat from the radiator, that is also causing problems.
Black Ice Extreme Radiator 360 on order. I tryed for the Black Ice Stealth GT360 but caunt find any in stock.
my future comp wit intel core 2 duo extreme, 2 Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX's, 1100 watt Power Supply, 2 GB of the fastest RAM, 80GB 10,000rpm hard drive, a 16x optical drive, and advanced water cooling will fucking own your pc. ($4000)
Why the hell would you brag about a "Dream" Computer... For all we know that may never happen, and what i find funny is "2 GB of the fastest RAM" WTF!!!! You dont even know what type of ram? Are you fucking stupid? And 80gb 10k hd, there is no such thing...get a life...
yes there is such a thing as 10,000 rpm hard drive dumbass. and i meant corsair w/ heatspreader RAM. and its not a dream computer, im gettin it in 3 months. i said FUTURE not DREAM. know the difference? (go back to school then)
Yummy rig.. Mine is *slightly* more powerful, not that I will ever use the full capacity of it's power haha. I hate to find out what the elctrical bill will be fo you after a month of using the bad boy lol ;)
