Este fue el primer recital que vi en mi vida. Mi viejo me llevó cuando tenia 11 años. Fue increíble, la cagada es que empecé a comparar a todos los futuros recitales con este, y nada se les compara a los Rolling Stones.
It's in the pocket! It swings thats what makes the Charlie, Keith dynamic so unique. Just cos it's fast doesn't make a piece of music danceable! Check out a hero of the Stones, John Lee Hooker.. He had some deep funky grooves! The Stones biggest influences were Blues Cats. Check out Brown Sugar from Sticky Fingers it has a similar groove to this version of '19th'. As Duke Ellington said. " It dont mean a thing if it aint got that swing" Charlie Watts is a Jazz Drummer! Feel it baby!
Your point is well taken; however, when you hear the original recording it gives off a different sort of vibe and feeling than a song that is simply a danceable tune. This tune is a bit slowed down, but the energy and rebellious angst heard in the original sounded like it was intended to provoke fighting and pandemonium. I still insist that The Stones early music was an undeniable influence on the Punk Rock music that came along some 12 to 14 years later.
No doubt about the Stones influence on "Punk Rock music. They were young and brash themselves. The music just wasn't called "Punk" back then. I remember the episode clearly urinating on the gas station wall. "Would you let your daughter marry"...etc.. The Stones have always been about the music first and foremost. They in essence are a Blues band that "made it". Their Blues heroes were the original "Gangsta Punks" Peace and Blessings!
Para mi gusto, una gira muy floja. Los vi como muy teens, un retroceso a la pubertad pero actual, de tipos de casi 60 años. Un tour sin alma, puro helado de agua. Y el disco "Bridge to Babylon"...inentendible.
mick is SINGING...the rest lack power...why in the hell can't keith give that guitar a f'in kick man...blast it out don't lose it...this song represents the Stones ascending...taking over the world but only mick seems to remember that....what a hack scene
This song doesn't translate well when its played live. I say leave it off the set list next time, boys, unless you can play it at lighting fast speed (like it is on the cd).
This is good (of course, it is The Stones after all!) but I miss that 'soul' that Brian Jones puts into the riff when he plays it. You just can't beat Brian, may he rest in peace.

I think Brian Jones & Mick Taylor were great.....Since Wood joined they have mainly recorded shit.....Wood was great in The Faces but thats it for me.
@ideacuccot In 2006 Mick Jagger lost a verse of Start me Up in same Argentina, I was there and I think is very difficult to play in Buenos Aires because the crowd are different, you can't hear nothing because the Argentinians are the best wild crowd in the world, Mick told it in 2006 DVD box.
Was talking about my not having a breakdown. No, I'm too tough to go insane, I'm proud to say I'm a little crazy according to some people....I can relate to this fantastic song in ways.. Rock on. The world loves you.
Leave me alone, you dweeb, excuse me, but you have absolutely no taste...get lost. I think YOU'RE having the breakdown. That's my opinion, and you started it, so you get my opinion...
I see...You had a flashback from the days when all the pub and garage bands used to looove to cover Rolling Stone songs...they DREAMED of being able to play the quality of this take...eeny meeny miney mo...they are all SO fantastic...the drum, guitars, and Micks's voice moves through you body like a fresh running brook, a hawk that's enjoying eating its kill, a lion that purrs as it feeds the weak impala to her young. Must I go on? If this is a crap version as you call it, goddam they rule!!!!!
No flashback to a pub band... I can remember buying a copy of this in the late 70s and thought excellent! - I must buy more of their stuff (and I did). Have you heard the original at all - how do you think it compares? This version sounds like they are playing it in armchairs with their goddam feet up!
That's the point, they are relaxing, having a ball, playing with the ease of an artist who has painted the same sunset for years...and yet still they are untouchable...and they had the goddaim nerve to do it LIVE....BEST TAKE OR NOT, it's stiiillHOTTTTT!!! Now, with all respect, if you go and take that chillsmoke, so that you don't make matters worse, maybe you'll see what I am saying, lol.

Hmmm. Mick changes the lyrics to: After we first met.... It used to be: After our first trip. Guess the Stones are now G-rated. I guess that's what happens when you become old and rich.

does anyone know what album this was originally off?

It was originally released by itself as a single. Then they put it on the compilation "Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)".

Listen closely from 3:50! Mick sopts singing for about 15 seconds.
Both Keith and Ronnie instantly looks caring concerned. Keith even stops guitar playing and looks to Mick!
Then when Mick starts again, Keith smiles, everything is OK! :-)
What a band! They are still the same blokes! :-)

Crikey - one of my fave Stones songs sounding like it was covered by a poor under-rehearsed pub band. Crap version.

I don't understand why Charlie nowadays always has to play 4 beats on his hi-hat, the original is much more groovy

He also does not do the original drumbeat for Monkey Man either, which has an amazing solo on it. He plays it by the numbers now live.
